To Help Thy Directioners (Reviews and More)

Characters

On this site I am constantly seeing people post "Help with characters" or "I need characters".
In all honesty, characters are the easiest thing to your story, or at least I feel like it is to me, but I also love creativity and uniqueness, so I hate looking for others to make a character for me, because if you do, you can't really move that character around like you want. You can't see them in your head, you can't understand how they feel, they are not yours, so its hard for you, which would probably explain why people who took other peoples characters didn't get far with their stories and gave up.

Now your story doesn't always have to be about you, I'm sorry if this will offend people, I'm not trying to, but I absolutely hate clicking on a tory and seeing the summary about the creator of what they look like and how they are and their names, and I find that exact same character in your story. If I find that, I immediately click out of the story, it is no use to me to read further, you didn't take your time to create a character, you just wanted to use yourself to be with One Direction, and unfortunately I do know a lot of people agree with that, because I have a sister on this and she does the exact same thing, so if you are wondering why you are losing readers or getting no votes and subscriptions, take yourself out of the story, you need to be creative and make a fictional character, leave yourself in imagines, that's why they are called imagines.

Now to get to the part to really help those who have character block:

1.) patience:

Not everyone can create characters on the whim, take your time to let the character blossom in your head, and at the right time, pick it out and jot it down.

2.) Jot characters down on paper:

A few tips is to take a paper, and write down every character that you thought of down on that paper. Don't worry about names, write male or female, characteristics, age, personality, what they look like. Now you have a huge paper of different characters that have nothing to do with your story. Once you know what your story is about and if it is a main male character or a main female character then you can pinpoint which one fits your story better.

Or

If you are highly creative and love writing, then the characters shouldn't be a problem and they come to you just like the story idea came to you, so you shouldn't even be reading this!

3.) Names:

Names though are the hardest to come up with, I even admit to the difficulty of it, so use the internet, it has amazing powers of help. If you want an England girl, look up English names, if you want a name in a certain era look that time up, it is not hard and the internet will pull up a lot of names that you can browse through, until you find the one that just clicks with your characters personality.

4.) Personality:

Personality is a huge thing for characters, you want people to connect to them or hate them, you want the readers to feel some sort of emotion towards them. If you have no feelings to the characters the readers will quit your story fast. I started one of my fan fictions out wrong, but I'm still continuing it anyways, but I didn't give my main character a lot of umph factor so people don't really connect to her, which in all honesty is a downfall to my story, but at least I saw it and developed the character later on for people to like, which is another way to fix yours tory and something important that I will post in an entirely different chapter.

You don't always have to make your character depressed, which is all I see now on this site, and it makes it very boring and depressing. Don't take others ideas just because you saw it was popular, just let your own mind create your own idea, a lot of people would be more grateful to that. Make a fun and exciting girl, or lazy and sassy girl, maybe a meek and shy girl, or athletic and competitive girl, maybe smart and stuck up, or anything else, she just doesn't always have to be depressed and cutting.

Just jot everything down on paper, that way you can always go back and refer to it or snatch up some characters on it and throw them into your story, try real hard to make your own, before your rely on others to make your characters, because now others have more control of your story than you do.

Comments

Hey, I would like my story to get reviewed, so I can see where I might have any flaws in my writing, or just an overall "how good is this story", ya know? My readers aren't leaving me a lot of comments, and I really want an outside opinion on my story. It is called "The Job That Changed It All". Harry fanfic. Thank you!
