My Best Friend's Sister

Mystery Girl

Vanessa's POV
I was thankful the bell had finally rung out. My homeroom teacher, who is also my World Lit teacher, piled us up with forms and shit our parent have to sign. Ugh.

I walked out of the room and began walking down the hallway to my next class. My favorite class. Art. I'm, if I do say so myself, a very artistic person. For example, when we moved to our new house in Melbourne 2 years ago, I painted the galaxy on my walls. It took 7 days but so worth it! Besides, Miss. Pettigrow loves me and thinks that we're nature's offspring because we're free spirits. She kills me.

"Vanessa!" I looked back to see my brother, Ashton, bobbing and weaving from people and I just kept walking. "Hey!" He finally caught up to me. "Why didn't you wake me up this morning?"

"Because I actually have other things to do than to wake you up," I said.

"Like what? Make out with Ryan?" He teased.

"Why do you keep bringing him up?" I snapped.

"Look forget that I said it," I know he doesn't like Ryan but that doesn't give him the right to talk mad shit. Especially in front of me. "Are you coming to rehearse later?"

My brother and his 2 weird ass friends started this band, that still doesn't have a name, about 3 years ago. I'm not exactly in the band but I play the lead guitar, their frontman, and songwriter for now until they find someone.

"I dunno, I actually have plans tonight," He groaned.

"C'mon, Fifa and pizza afterwards," He pleaded.

"As much as I want to hang out with my so obnoxious brother and his 2 weird ass friends, I have a life that needs attending to," I said.

"But-"

"Bye, Ash," I cut him off and went inside the studio.

Miss. Pettigrow spotted me entering and her face just lit up three times as much as it is usually. We embraced each other in warm hugs. I always love her cinnamon scent that she has when she approaches you.

"Oh, Vanessa Irwin, my little protege!" She also calls me chandelier, sunshine, rainbow, and swan. "I've missed you!"

"I missed you too," I truly did because she's like one of those friends that you can talk about anything to.

"This year, I got you a VIP seat right next to me," She danced around to the seat.

"Aww, that's sweet!" I hugged her again and she told to me that she had to run to the copier. I sat down and began to look through my texts as the room started to pile up with people. No one really takes this class for their true love of art. They take it because they see art as a class that you can totally blow off. Thinking that all you have to do is draw a stick figure and get a 100. Three fourths of everyone in this class will be gone by Wednesday when they see the syllabus.

Just then I got a text from Heather. Heather's my best friend out of the whole group. We've known each other since we were toddlers. Even though the one year difference, we still manage to talk to each other during school.

From Heather Bae:
hey girly, how was your summer with ryan???

I just know she exaggerated his name.

To Heather Bae:
like i was in heaven

From Heather Bae:
i gtg tell me later

To Heather Bae:
alright, byeee

The bell had rung and class has begun.

Luke's POV
I must be the luckiest guy because mystery girl's in my art class too! I wonder what other classes we share together? No, Luke. Don't get too your hopes up.

Just then some crazy woman with crazy looking red hair came in, who I am assuming is the teacher.

"Hellooooo class! My name is Miss. Pettigrow!" She is so vivid and a tad loud. She began talking and I just focused on mystery girl. She's not like most of the girls I've seen here. She doesn't have on any heels or doesn't wear pounds of makeup that I can tell. I could just stare into those beautiful grey eyes for days.

"Okay, now what I like to do is that I want everyone in the room to be comfortable with each other," I hope she doesn't say what I think she's about to say. "So we're going to go around the room and introduce ourselves and telling 2 interesting things about us." But she did. "Starting with... you," She pointed to the very first guy up at the first table.

Whew. That was close.

I continued staring at mystery girl. Taking in her every feature. From her long black hair to her combat boots. Then, in a very unexpected way, she found my eyes and return the stare. I guess I stared for too long. I slid down in my chair and a smirk came across her face.

Ugh, I'm next. I don't like introducing myself to people I'm probably never going to talk to. That and I'm shy but I click towards people that's has the same interests as me.

"Hemmings," she call me out and I reluctantly stood up. "Hi darling, tell us your name."

"Luke," I said.

"And what are 2 things that would be interesting to the rest of us?" She smiled.

"Well, I um, play guitar and sing," I saw some girls twirling their hair and looking at me up and down.

"Ooo, that sounds like someone I know," She turned back and looked at mystery girl. "Would you like to sing something for us?"

"No. It's not that I don't want to but I don't want to. Right now," Some of the girls twirled their hair and giggled but mystery girl just scrunched her brows because that didn't make one shit of sense.

"Oh okay doke," She said as I quietly sat back down, "Now last but not least my little sunshine!" Mystery girl stands up.

"Well, I just wanted you guys to know that I hate you all and don't ask for my opinion," she said and everyone laughed.

"Don't forget your name! Your name is most important," Miss. Pettigrow said.

"Oh, Vanessa." And with that she sat back down.

And mystery girl turned into Vanessa the girl I wanted.

Aww, thanks love. I hope I do too. Love you name by the way.

So I just spent 2 and a half hours reading this story. And I love it. Great job ;) I hope you get out of ur writer funk.

@Lucy Hemmings
I really want you to continue your story but you could use a little tweaking. Me personally, I prefer if you space out your paragraphs and dialogue because it just makes it easier to read and it flows better.

Put more details! The more details the better. Try to connect with not only your readers but with your character because you character's are their own people with minds of their owns. Let the words flow through you and on to the keyboard. Details also makes your chapters longer.

Just look over simple punctuation and grammar errors. Also be sure to note who's POV it is at the top of the page if you want to continue switching POV's.

Other than that, you're pretty solid. I'm sorry if I come out mean. I don't mean to be! I promise. But you have so much potential to be a great writer!
