I'm Here, and I Care
Last Day, Let's Make It Count
***Avery's POV***
Saturday. Our last day. I didn't want to get out of bed; although I needed to since me and Niall have the whole day planned out. There were so many questions of what would happen to me if Niall leaves. I tried holding back my tears, but then my throat started hurting so I knew I just had to let them out. Someone knocked on my bedroom door while I was in the middle of my mellow-dramatic cries.
"Come in," I said as I sat up and wiped my tears.
The door opened and it revealed Niall. He was smiling widely until he saw me.
"Hey," he said as he closed the door and sat at the end of my bed. "You okay?" he said while raising his left eyebrow and grabbed both my hands. I didn't even answer him, I just continued sobbing and he pulled me into a hug. "Shhhh. Don't cry," he stroked my hair -- something he always did to calm me down. "Can you tell me what's wrong?"
"I'm just gonna miss you so much," I continued doing what I do best -- crying, obviously.
"I know," he said pulling me into a hug again. "Me too," he smiled. "Now, why don't you get out of bed, and get ready for our best friend's day. I'll be downstairs" I smiled as I got out of bed, and got ready.
Within 15 minutes, I was ready for the day. I trudged down the stairs to see Niall no where in the living room. I started wondering where he was then a loud 'bang' came out from the kitchen with a swear word. I laughed at myself, and said,"I should've known."
***Skipping to the end of their day***
"What time are you leaving tomorrow?" I asked.
"Probably sometime in the morning. You do know that you can come if you want."
"Yeah, I know, but who's gonna take care of my mum?"
"Right," he sighed.
"Don't worry, I'll just watch you on TV. So that I won't miss it, and I'll cheer for you even though I'm not there," I smiled genuinely as I said these.
"Yeah, I know you wouldn't miss it for the world, but it wouldn't be the same," he smiled a small smile. "Well, today's been great."
"Yeah, I know."
We were at my porch now, and we weren't even saying anything after my reply. We just stood there in silence, staring at each other's eyes. Then I saw him leaning towards me. I was pretty sure he was going to kiss me on the lips, but then his head turned right, and ended up kissing my cheek. Okay, I was a little disappointed at first, but then I knew Niall doesn't really feel the same way. He hugged me one last time, and went home.
When I opened the front door, I saw my mum in front of the TV, again.
"Had a nice day?" she asked.
"Yeah, I did," I smiled. After that, there was an awkward silence. "It's getting late. I'm going to bed now. "Good night, mum."
"Good night, Ave."
