Why?
***Avery's POV***
We finally entered the school's gate, and I didn't notice a tear escaping my eye. I sniffed, and wiped the tear -- trying my best not to let Niall notice, but unfortunately, he did.
"Hey, you okay?" he said while putting both hands on my shoulders.
"Ermm. Yeah, I'm fine," I said trying my best to sound 'fine'. "It's just I'm happy for you," I sniffed then smiled.
"Are you sure?" he said unconvinced. "Because I know that that's not the reason why you're crying. No need to lie, Avery. I'm your best friend, and I know all about you. Your happy cry, sad cry, and even when you're lying. Now, spit it out."
"I promise! It's nothing. It's just... I'll miss you so much, and I'll have no shoulder to cry on if you go," I half-lied. But by the time I finished my sentence, I was crying -- HARD. I wiped my tears with the back of my hand, I forgot I was wearing a half-sleeved shirt, and all my bracelets that covered my cuts went down. I quickly put my hand down -- hoping he didn't notice, but he did.
He grabbed my hand, turned it over, and asked, "What're these?"
"They're nothing," I said trying to pry off my hand from his grasp, but he was stronger than me.
He moved all my bracelets, and studied my scars.
"Since when?" he asked with an angry tone.
"Since I think about two years ago?" I said unsure of my self.
"Why?"
"Niall, life was complicated at that time, and- and with all the bullying and my father dying. It's just too complicated." I cried on his chest.
"Shh. It's okay. It's okay. I understand," he said while pulling me into a hug and stroking my hair. "Can you stop?"
"Believe me, I've tried."
"Okay, I'll make you a deal. If you won't stop, I won't audition for the X Factor; I'll leave my dreams and be here for you."
"No!" I shouted at him. Obviously angry at him because of his deal.
"Well, what am I suppose to do to make you stop?! I can't just leave you, and make you continue whatever this is?!" he sighed. "You mean the world to me, Avery. And I can't bear to see you like this."
"I promise," I interrupted his speech of how I was that important to him. "I promise I'll stop. Just don't give up on your dream because of me."
"Pinky promise?" he said while holding out his pinky.
"Pinky promise," I said while I also held out my pinky, hooked it with his, and kissed my tumb. We both smiled.
