Breakable

We bike to the beach that's further down the road. No one will be there. We get off our bikes, and put some logs in a pile. We all sit. Derek starts making a fire. It's 2:30 by now. When the fire is started,' Derek sits in a chair he found on the beach. We all sit and talk for a while. Derek and Teddy light the weed and start smoking it.
Brooke asks them, "why do you guys even smoke?"
"Because!" Teddy yells.
"Why not?" Derek says.
"Besides," Teddy says, "when you're high; music is better, food is better, sex is better."
Brooke starts to laugh.
"Not that I'd know," Teddy says, "but I've heard."
I start laughing.
"Listen," Teddy says, "one day, you're gonna get drunk at a party. And you're gonna be like fuck it, and try weed."
Cat groans. We all laugh.
"So guys," Derek says, "who does everyone like again?"
"Umm," Lucy starts, "well--"
Derek interrupts, "--lemme try. Lucy and... Cameron."
"What?!" Lucy says, "what're you--"
"Things get around quickly here," Derek smirks. "Okay, Cat and Clayton."
I look at Cat and she blushes.
"Umm," Derek says, "Bella and Brandon."
I look down. How does he even know that?
"How do you--" I start.
"We always talk about it at sleepovers," Lucy says, "and he's coming in at midnight and hanging out with us."
"Yeah," Derek says, "I actually listen sometimes."
I laugh, "Who else?"
"I don't know about Natalie..." he says.
Lucy and Teddy laugh.
"What's so funny?" Natalie asks.
"Nothing," Trevor says.
Hmm. Trevor wasn't even laughing... That's weird. Oh my god. Wait, maybe Trevor likes Natalie. I could so see that.
I look over at Natalie and smile.
"Let's put some music on," Teddy says, taking out his phone.
He presses play, and Pursuit of Happiness comes on.
"I love this song!" I say, "Cameron showed me it."
We all sit for a while, and listen to the music. The fire is just beyond my toes. I look up behind me, and Derek smiles. I look back at the fire, and wiggle my toes. Derek starts to laugh. Ugh, god. He's high.
"Want to try?" Derek says.
I turn around, and he's holding out the weed. I look at Lucy, glaring at him.
"No, thanks," I say.
"What time is it?" Natalie asks.
"Like 3:20," Trevor says.
"Lucy," I say, "have you checked your phone? Just make sure your dad hasn't texted."
"Oh you're that girl," Teddy says, "The worrier."
"Noo," I whine, "Yes, I'm worried. But I'm not that girl."
"Just chill out, Bella," Derek says.
When it's almost 4, we start to get up.
"Whoa," Teddy exclaims, "I feel like a marshmallow."
We all burst into laughter.
Brooke falls over onto the ground, "Oh my god, I'm gonna pee my pants!"
Derek stands up, and I look over to him. He looks dizzy.
"Bella!" he exclaims.
I walk over, and grab onto his arm.
"Help me walk," he says, putting his arm around me.
I guide him back to his bike. We all get on our bikes, and head back to Lucy's. I bike behind Teddy. He is constantly swerving his bike. Eventually, Teddy turns on his street, and we all continue to Lucy's. Trevor is sleeping over as well. He sleeps over with Derek all the time. When we get to the house, we all sit in the kitchen, at the table. Derek gets out white wine, and starts drinking it. Everytime he finishes a glass, he refills. After about 4 glasses, he comes back with a new refill.
"Stopit," I scold him.
I try to grab it from him. He stands up and holds it above my head. He's so tall, I can't reach it. I stand on a chair and try to grab it. He sits down and starts to drink it. I sit back down, and snatch it from his hands.
"HA!" I say.
I put the glass to my lips, and drink it. It feels smooth going down my throat. I finish the glass. After a little while, we all go upstairs. We go into Derek's room. There are two beds on each side of the room. There is a big blow-up bed in the middle of the room. Derek sits on his bed, and opens up his computer. I sit next to him, and he turns on a TV show, that I don't know. I sit and watch it with him, ignoring everyone around us. When the show is over, he shuts his computer. I turn around, and face the room. Brooke and Cat lay on the bed across the room. Trevor and Natalie lie next to each other on the blow-up bed, and Lucy lays at the end.
I sit up, "Where am I supposed to sleep?"
"There," Cat says.
I look at Lucy. We exchange looks. This is weird, I'm sleeping with her cousin, who's 2 years older than me.
"Umm," I say.
"Just sleep there," Lucy says, "whatever."
"Yeah," Derek says, "no biggie."
Lucy turns the lights off. I lay down in the bed, still in my sundress. I hear Derek move a little. I suddenly feel his hand land on my ass.
He was just moving his hand, I think, He didn't mean to put it there.
I shift a little, so his hand moves. I hear him whisper something very quietly.
"What?" I say, as quietly as I can.
"Will you just put your legs around mine?" he asks.
I put my legs around his. Whatever. He just wants to be comfortable. Lucy says he's a total player, and I know that. But, he wouldn't be into me. I'm way to ugly, and fat. Plus, he's really hot. He could get with any girl. He wouldn't choose me.
Suddenly, I feel Derek's hand going down my underwear. Wait, what? Am I going crazy? He is not doing that. He just wouldn't. I still feel his hand. I swat his hand away.
"Derek!" I whisper-yell as quietly as possible.
"What?" he whispers.
"What the fuck are--" I hear someone say something, and I stop talking.
"Oh my god," I hear Lucy, "are they making out?!"
I hear Natalie laughing. Derek keeps trying to finger me. I keep pushing him away.
"You're crazy," I say, "stop, Derek."
"Don't you want me to do this?" he whispers.
"No," I whisper, "Lucy is one of my best friends. This is weird."
"She won't know," he whispers, "no one will."
"Just stop, Derek."
After a bunch of times of trying, he stops for a few minutes. I turn around, and face the wall. I feel him scoot closer, until we're spooning. He slips his arms around my handle and then under my underwear. I grab his hand and push it away. He twists his wrist around, and grabs mine. He pins me down.
"Derek!" I say as quietly as possible.
He leans close to me. He hovers close over me. He looks me in the eyes. I turn my head away. When I turn my head, I see the clock. It's 4:40. Wow. It's silent except for Derek and I. Everyone is asleep. I turn back, and he's still barely half an inch from my face. He wears a cheeky grin across his face. He leans just a little closer. I push him down under me. He gives me a funny look. I start laughing, and I fall back onto the mattress next to him. He leans over and covers my mouth. "Shh," Derek says, "don't wake anyone up."
"You didn't care much about that a little while ago," I say.
He grabs me and starts tickling me. I start to laugh. He covers my mouth again.
"No laughing," he scolds.
I lie down on my side. I feel Derek's hands start to slip down my stomach slowly, again. I smack his hand.
"Derek," I whisper, "you're high."
"No," he smirks, "I'm not."
"Yes," I say, "you wouldn't do this if you weren't."
"I would," he laughs.
"Shut up," I say.
I turn on my side again, and close my eyes. I was so done with Derek's shit. I felt his hand on my side.
"Derek!" I say.
He doesn't say anything. I feel his hand on mine. He intertwines his fingers with mine. I turn around and look at him. He smiles. Aww. Wait, what am I thinking? He's crazy. Don't fall for his shit. I close my eyes and go to sleep. I feel his hands slip around my handles.

"Goodnight," he whispers in my ear.
I close my eyes, and slowly drift off to sleep.
