Through The Dark

“Hey! How did the doctors go?” Ashley asked excitedly, putting Dylan down on his feet and following me into the kitchen. I opened the fridge door and pulled out the milk.

“Nichole.” Ashley pleaded, drawing out my name when I was quiet. I poured my milk and put the milk up. I took a sip of my milk and turned to her, leaning back against the counter.

“I’m pregnant.” I say casually, shrugging a shoulder to play it off. Inside, I was screaming. I was pregnant. I’m having another baby. The twins are going to have another sibling.

“You are! I knew it! I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!” Ashley said excitedly, doing a little dance.

“Isn’t it about time to put the twins down for a nap?” I ask, putting my glass down and walking past her towards the living room.

“Wait, when are you going to tell Harry?” She asked, following me into the living room. I cooed as I scooped up Dylan, poking him in his tummy to make him giggle. Ashley picked up Darcy and headed to the nursery.

“Their cups are in the fridge.” She tells me as I set Dylan into his crib. He started to pout, reaching up for me.

I hurriedly retrieved the sippy cups, making sure the lids are are tight before handing them out. Dylan’s whining stopped as he sucked on the cups, allowing me to lay him down and placing a small blanket over him. I watched him as his eyes slowly closed a soft whimper coming from him as he sipped the last bit of warm milk out of the cup. I’m going to have another baby.

“So?” Ashley questioned as we quietly left the nursery, leaving the door cracked.

“So what?” I asked, making my way into the living room. I plopped down on the couch, my hand absentmindedly rubbing my tummy.

“How are you going to tell Harry?” She asked again, sitting next to me.

“I’m not.” I say, automatically regretting it. That’s not what I meant.

“What do you mean you’re not? He is the dad, right?” She asked, making me look at her.

“Excuse me?” I asked, looking at her like she lost her mind.

“I wasn’t accusing you of anything! Sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you. What I meant was, Harry’s the father. You told him about the twins, why won’t you tell him about the new baby?” She asked, her voice going from panicked to soft.

“New baby? You’re pregnant again?” Another girly voice said excitedly.

I turned around, looking at the doorway to the front door. Gemma stood in the door way, her eyes wide and a grin on her face. Oh my gosh, this is not happening.

“Yup. She’s having another baby!” Ashely confessed, making me send her a dirty look. She just grinned smugly at me.

“Have you told Harry yet?” Gemma asked, coming in and making herself at home. She sat in the love seat, pulling her legs underneath her as she looked at me.

“No, she hasn’t.” Ashley butts in, cutting me off.

“Aw, why not? He deserves to know!” Gemma says, looking at me shocked.

“That’s what I said.” Ashely commented, nodding head her.

Gemma opened her mouth and I snapped, shocking myself at my next actions. I stood up from the couch, stomping towards the door. I stopped and spun around, glaring at the two sitting in my living room.

“I am perfectly capable of talking for myself, Ashley, thank you. And yes, Gemma, I know that Harry deserves to know about the baby, I’m not stupid. Have either of you even thought that maybe I don’t even know what I think about it, much less how I’m going to tell him? No. You haven’t. It’s all about Harry. I’ll be back in an hour, I’m going out.” I say, shooting them one last glare before stomping out the door.
