Chapter 18: Sage and Harry
Sage’s POV
“They're going to drive him home in the ambulance and then he’s going to sleep for a few hours.” Aunt Susie told all of us after she took a deep breath.
I grabbed Louis’s hand comfortingly as we both stared at the tiled floor in the hallway hospital. He took a deep breath and squeezed my hand back. Louis’s parents were here now and barely holding together; every piece of information they were given seemed to break them a little more. All of the ‘adults’ went into the hospital room, leaving us 6 and the cousins.
“Hey, let’s go out to the campgrounds.” Jenn, Louis’s 25 year old cousin, offered with a forced smile.
“Okay.” We all shrugged and looked at each other.
“We can get lunch on the way out there, I’ll pay.” Her brother, Dennis, said looking at his watch. “I’ll go tell them that we’re leaving, I’ll meet you guys in the parking lot.”
We all walked out to the parking lot and attempted to make casual conversation but it was difficult under the circumstances. Jenn’s a skater so she was chill to talk to. We leaned again the cars and got the cars ready for the trip out there until Dennis walked outside.
The drive out to the campgrounds is so relaxing. The redwoods zooming past the car, the birds chirping, the smell of the ocean and the cool breeze sweeping into the car. All of it brought back memories of our summers spent here.
There is no way for me to actually capture the sights or describe the feelings of being at that campground so I cant write it. I’m gonna go ahead and write about that night.
Sage and the guys are headed out of Aunt Susie’s to go for a walk. Sage and Harry hadn’t talked much because they were too focused on Papa Cy so now is there time to relax and talk to each other.
Sage’s POV
Harry was walking next to Louis a few feet in front of me, they were both laughing about something but I didn't know what it was since I was next to Niall. We all were exhausted but it’s only 8:15 so we could bail back to the hotel for the night. But we did go back to change and I was happy about that. I was finally warm with my thick leggings, beanie and fluffy sweater plus, Niall was radiating so I walked close to him. I decided to walk a little faster so I could walk with Harry. He was looking down at his feet when I slid my hand into his and walked with him.
“Hi babe.” He smiled at me.
“Hello.” I smiled back then looked ahead of me.
I moved a little closer to him and rested my head on his shoulder as we walked closer to the movie theater. The movie sign was bright against the dark sky so it was easy to read it.
“Can we go to the movies?” Niall asked excitedly.
“Sure.” Liam and Zayn shrugged but Louis was silent, just staring at his phone screen.
“Lou?” Zayn asked quietly. “Are you okay?”
“Huh? Yea, I’m good.” Louis looked up with a small smile. “Let’s go watch a movie.”
“Do you want to?” Harry asked looking down at me.
“I don’t care.” I shrugged, pulling my head off of his shoulder.
“I don’t, can we go for a walk?”
“Sure.” I looked over at the guys while they bought tickets to the movie and then looked at us.
“Hey, we’re gonna go for a walk we’ll see you guys later.” Harry waved at them, they nodded in acknowledgement and then we went our separate ways.
“Babe?” Harry asked while we laid on a picnic table at the little park.
“Yes?”
“Have you ever thought about moving out of your house to somewhere you can go to college or start a family?” His voice was rough.
“Yea, when all of you were moving in that’s all I thought about.” I took my beanie off and set it next to my bag. “I actually want to move this Fall so I can start school in the Spring.”
“Really? What about the roadtrip?” He sounded surprised.
“I still want to go but that’s kinda why I want to go to California. I want to see if that’s where I want to move and 4 months is a super long time.” I rolled onto my side and slipped my arm under my head for support.
“Oh…” He sat up and was silent for a few seconds. “We should probably go, the movie is probably over.”
“Yea, probably.” I sat up too while Harry stepped off the table before extending out his hand to me.
