Always the Bestfriend

So that was how your friendship started. You were there for their first live performance. You were there when they finished third in X Factor, and when they were absolutely heart broken it felt like your heart was being ripped to pieces as well. You were there when they went away for their X Factor tour, you even went to a few shows, and rented out hotel rooms for you guys to crash. You were there when they started writing and recording songs for Up All Night, and you occasionally went to their recording studio bringing Nando's takeout for everybody, but mostly Niall.

As much as you were present for both the little and big milestones in your favorite lads’ careers, they were there for yours as well. They were there when your first single went #1 in over 60 countries. They were there when your album was nominated for album of the year in several award shows, and even won in some. They were there for your first show in your first world tour, sporting “I <3 Y/N” or “Certified Y/N-er” shirts. They were there when you decided to try your hand once again in acting, and got cast in a Marvel movie. Something which the boys found absolutely hilarious.

“Get it? You were a superhero in training back in Disney and now you’re a real superhero!” Harry would point out again and again never failing to laugh at his own overused joke each time. But you didn’t mind, you loved hearing his infectious little girl-like laugh that obviously did not match his boyish stature.

“So the 1D boys, mind telling us how you guys became bestfriends?” The interviewer asked again which brought you back to reality.

It’s 2012.

You were doing an interview as promo for your soon to be released second album, and you hear her question - the same question you’ve heard in countless of interviews, both yours and the boys’, before. You’ve never went into detail how you and the boys became bestfriends, and it was the same for them as well. Maybe it was an unspoken agreement to never reveal too much, to keep it private and special, a juicy exclusive only you and the boys were privy to.

“Oh, we met on the X Factor. I heard Niall’s little Irish accent, and I was hooked.” you reply jokingly.

As soon as you finish your interview you message Harry, “Harbear, coming out to see you lot at your show tonight x”

It was perfect timing. You were going all over the US for promo and they were on their US leg of their Up All Night tour as well. You loved being in the same city or even in the same country as the boys, all of you made sure to make time for each other. Going out to dinners or early breakfasts at the hotel. Both you and the boys made sure you were always staying in the same hotel when you were in the same city. “It’s always nice having you at arms length” Niall would say.

*Ding*

“See you, kitten. Missed you loads xx” you see Harry’s reply and it makes your heart do little cartwheels.

If you were being honest, you’ve always been a little closer to Harry than the rest of the boys. Harry went from the quiet lad who barely spoke a sentence to you back when you first met to someone who’d barge into your hotel room late at night for cuddles because he says he missed your scent. There were always lingering touches between you and Harry, hugs that lasted longer and were tighter than a hug for just a friend. Sometimes, when you went out for a late night meal with the boys Harry would nuzzle in your shoulder and rest his head for a little shut eye. You weren’t the only one to notice moments like these too. Whenever you excused yourself from the room to answer an important call or to go to the kitchen and get snacks Louis, Zayn and Liam were always quick to take the mickey out of Harry for being too close to his “bestfriend”. Something Niall did not find amusing at all and tried to change the subject every time this happens.

“Y/N? We’re here.” Trent, your driver, said. You were so lost in thought you didn’t notice you were already at the venue for One Direction’s show tonight. You thank Trent as you go out of your service car and, along with your bodyguards, make your way into the venue. After a few dozen pictures with Directioners outside the venue you finally got inside. You were always happy to meet Directioners, they’ve always been nice to you. You also loved that your fans and the boys’ Directioners got along with each other as well, you loved seeing their tweets amongst themselves and the creative hashtags they could get trending worldwide in a matter of minutes.

After settling into a dressing room the boys always had ready for you just in case you decide to come to one of their shows, you decide to look for craft service first before going out to hang out with the boys. Just as you were about to grab a carton of caramel popcorn, someone snatches it away.

“Hey there free loader” you would know that Irish accent anywhere.

“Hey yourself Nialler, snacking again?” you both laugh and hug each other. As you were about to pull away Niall whispered an earnest “I missed you” into your ear, “Aww i missed you too bud” you reply and pinch his rosey cheeks.

At that, huge arms wrap around your waist from behind and before you knew it you were being carried and spun in circles, “Harryyyy, stop!!” you laugh. Harry sets you down and playfully kisses your cheek, “Missed you poppet!”

“Wow seems like a lot of people missed me while I was away.” You say jokingly but when you looked at Niall’s way you saw him looking down at ground and saw what seemed like hurt in his eyes, but before you could comment Niall says, “Ain’t feeling too good, have to rest a bit before the show starts” and walks away.

You were thinking of going with Niall to see if he was okay, but as you were about to take your first step towards him Harry catches you in tight embrace once again and like always you forget everything else whenever you’re in your best friend’s arms.
