TWO GHOSTS

Chapter Eight / Stay.

It was gloomy outside, once again. You curled under your sheets, ignoring the alarm clock blaring from your phone. You groaned, reaching your hand out from under the sheets and switching it off. Just by sticking your hand out, you felt a chill. Even if you didn't want to, you would have to get up and get ready for school and then work.
You kicked the sheets off of you, reaching into your closet. You chose to wear a loose but warm sweater with leggings and boots. You snatched your bag, walking out of your room. You spotted Harry standing near the kitchen, orange juice in hand.
Harry didn't need to get up early, he's just a morning person.
You snatched his glass of orange juice and took a sip, "Yummy."
Harry grinned before snatching the glass from you, "It'll taste even better with your own glass."
You laughed a bit before walking into the kitchen.
As you poured yourself a glass, you felt Harry's hands make their way up inside your sweater. This has been happening for two days now, ever since you two had a heated make-out session on the couch followed along with tears and grins.
You didn't mind at all, you liked it. Harry knew, even if you never openly said anything about it.
Harry's hands distracted you from drinking your juice. Even if the apartment was cold, his hands were warm. They brushed against your skin, dancing along your stomach. Harry's kisses melted on your neck, making you moan. Harry pulled away a bit. His words were soft yet demanding, "Moan for me again."
You turned and faced him, "Ask me again when I come back from work."
A grin escaped him, making you finally being able to drink your juice.
Before you could walk away, Harry grabbed your waist and kissed you. As always, it was sloppy yet savoring.
. . .
Harry was all you could think about during class.
Maybe you finally knew what you wanted.
After class, you headed straight to work. The rain had just started, draping over you. Because of you and Harry's daring meeting this morning, you had forgotten your umbrella. You hurried inside the small convenient store, shivering from the drops that had gotten you wet.
Ruth was staring at you, "Did you not know it was going to rain today?"
You shook off your shivers, standing behind the counter. You replied, "I just forgot to grab my umbrella."
Ruth stared at you, "That's really irresponsible."
The chime of the door alerted you two.
Ruth rolled her eyes, "Speaking of irresponsible."
Tyler made his way down one of the isles, not bothering to make eye contact with you or Ruth. Ruth turned her back, making it obvious she didn't like Tyler. You stood in front of the register, wondering why he hadn't looked at you yet. Did he know about you and Harry's moment on the couch? Or did he know about you and Harry's flirts?
Tyler stopped by the candy. You could only see the side of his face. He looked focused, trying to pick between two. He finally turned to you and showed the two chocolate bars, "Do these have gluten? I'm on a cleanse." He was obviously joking, making you smile. He walked over with both in hand, setting them on the counter.
You were relieved Tyler wasn't upset with you, whether he knew about you and Harry or not.
Tyler handed you cash, "Do ya need a ride home?"
You nodded, "That'd be nice. I forgot my umbrella."
Tyler gasped sarcastically, "That's terribly reckless of you, (Y/N). Because of your recklessness, I don't think you're good enough for my brother--me, on the other hand--"
"Ha ha ha." You grinned, catching a bit of toxic aggressiveness from him.
After doing the transaction, Tyler said, "I'll pick you up at five."
You nodded, "Alright."
Tyler glanced at Ruth, "Goodbye Ruth."
"Ya, byyye." She said, her back still turned to him.
After Tyler had left, Ruth turned to you. She said, "I don't like him."

"You hardly know him."
"I know enough. I heard he tagged a building with gang shit. He's lucky police officers don't take that shit seriously." She scowled, making your blood boil. Even if you were getting mad, you didn't show it. You calmly replied, "Well, I heard it wasn't gang shit. It was a woman, flowers and all--the complete opposite."
Ruth shrugged, "Either way he shouldn't be painting on buildings without getting some kind of permission. He's breaking the law--a criminal."
"A criminal whose paintings make the dirty streets looks more beautiful? Okay, sure." Your toughness had slipped, and Ruth noticed.
She looked at you, "For someone who's into Harry, you seem to defend Tyler more than anyone."
You were completely annoyed now. Your words came out more serverely than what you wanted, "How would you know who I'm into?"
Ruth seemed taken back by your tone. She gulped, looking away from you. You can spot her glazed eyes.
"Ruth I'm sorry--"
"And you have his temper." She said more sternly but with glassy eyes.
You paused.
Ruth tightened her jaw, "I'm going to stock up the orders." She left from behind the counter.
Ruth didn't bother to look at you through your entire shift. You felt bad, giving her the space she needed.
Her words kept ringing in your head. And you have his temper. Sure, you can't completely control your emotions in troubled situations--maybe you do have Tyler's temper. You kept to yourself until it was finally time to leave. Ruth was full time, which meant she would stay for another hour. You took one more glance at her, hoping she'd say goodbye.
But she didn't.
You looked down, walking outside into the rain.
You looked around, Tyler was nowhere to be seen.
The rain begun to pour, making you groan out loud. You were already upset, Tyler had added onto it with his absence. You yelled over the rain, "Really Tyler?" You groaned, ignoring the strangers who huddled under their umbrellas.
As you walked the distance toward your house, your clothes were getting soaked. You worried about the amount of rain your bag could handle until the rain soaked your text books. You stepped into puddles, your hair was drenched, and in the moment it felt as though everything was falling apart.
Your words slipped from your mouth as if you were talking to someone, "I didn't ask to be in the middle of twins, I didn't ask to be stuck in the middle of a storm--why me? I hate this, I hate this--"
A car came to a screeching stop by you. You looked, catching Tyler rolling down his window and yelling, "Get in, hurry--"
"No." You said, standing in the rain.
Tyler looked confused, "Babe you're getting wet--"
"I don't want to be around you and Harry for a while, I'm done."
Tyler wasn't listening.
But of course, it's Tyler.
His voice sounded aggressive but sincere, "Shut up and get in the car, you idiot."
You continued walking, "No." You took a couple steps before hearing a car door open. You turned around just in time for Tyler to pick you up. You were at a loss of words, but you struggled against him. It was useless, he was too strong. Tyler pushed through your fit and opened the passenger door, setting you in. He shut the door and tapped on the window, "Stay." He ordered as he made his way around the car.
The warmth in the car was the only thing that kept you inside.
Tyler finally sat in the driver's seat. He was quiet for a moment before finally saying, "Are you mental?"
You didn't reply.
Tyler said, "I know you're having some kind of breakdown, but don't ever do anything like that again. You could've gotten a fever from being out there."
"You should've been on time." You replied, looking away from him.
Tyler grabbed a Starbucks's cup from the cup holder, "I was getting you hot chocolate, idiot. You should've stayed inside."
You yelled, "Stop calling me an idiot." the sudden yell coming from your own mouth made you tear up.
Tyler paused. He mumbled, "I'm sorry. I'm just upset...tell me what's wrong."
"It's you and Harry. You both like me. And the thought of choosing one of you, only to leave one astray is killing me. I don't want to be loved by any of you two."
Tyler stared at you. He was blunt, "That's not going to happen, love." He said, "We both like you, hell, we might be both falling for you. And you're going to have to choose...but hey, if you choose Harry, I get it." He moved the Starbucks's drinks and moved up the cup holder, making a middle seat. He gestured you close, "Come here, love."
You wiped your tears before scooting over, sitting in the middle. Even if you were soaked, he still took you in. Tyler kissed your forehead, "If you choose Harry, you won't lose me. I adore you, (Y/N), as a friend or lover." Tyler said softly, "I wish this was easier for you."
You looked up at him, catching his small smile.
You didn't know anymore.
You had thought you had chosen Harry, then none, and now you don't know anymore.
Tyler sighed, "I want to show you something."
Tyler drove while you huddled against him. The rain was heavy, but it didn't bother you in the warmth of the car...and the warmth of Tyler. You recognized the place immediately. Tyler parked by the side of the building, giving a good view of the artwork...it was painted over.
Tyler said weakly, "Whoever reported it managed to get someone paint over it with an ugly shade of mucky brown." He looked upset, "I can't expect everything to stay the way it is, and neither can you. I can choose to set down the brush--"
"But you love painting."
"And you love us both." Tyler said, his words stinging you. He continued, "It's not going to be easy to set it down, but I have to choose what's good for me. It's vandalism."
"No. Don't say that." You adjusted yourself so you were facing him more, "It's beautiful, Tyler."
Tyler smiled at you, "You're right. I love painting. So I have to stick with it." He cupped your cheeks, "Don't push both of us away just because things aren't easy. I'm going to keep painting no matter how many times they paint over it, because I love it. You love us, push through the pressure until you know who you want to be with."
Tyler said, "I...I love you in the best way possible." His thumb brushed across your cheek, making you grin. Tyler gestured to the back seat, "I also set the back seat down and put some covers so we could have a moment to ourselves."
"Uh...Tyler..." Your cheeks burned, "Sex?"
Tyler exaggeratedly gasped, "You're an absolute pervert."
You laughed at his tone, "Shut up."
Tyler pushed back his long hair before climbing onto the back, spread out as much as he could. He chuckled, "It's still cramped for me, but I think you'd fit perfectly."
"Short joke?"
Tyler grinned at you, "Short joke."
You chuckled, climbing to the back and laying beside him. You were warm, even if your clothes were soaked.
Tyler looked over to you, "I want to admit something, please don't tell anyone."
"I won't. What is it?"
"Compared to my brother, I feel...I feel like less of a person. Our mum always boasted about how much of a great musician Harry is meant to be. I remember one dinner night, she boasted about Harry's move to New York. It was always about him. I sat there, picking at my food until I finally had enough and shouted at her." Tyler sighed, leaving a silent moment of the rain hitting the top of the car, "Harry shouted at me soon after." Tyler said, "No matter how hard I try to prove I'm just as talented as my brother, I always seem to fall short."
How could someone so adventurous be so insecure?
Tyler looked at you, "I always have to prove myself to someone. My mum, brother, but not you. You take me as I am. My brother might think of me as a fool for even considering you as anything else but a friend, but..." Tyler moved, climbing over your body. His tall figure scrunched up against you, "I'm the biggest fool of them all." His long hair draped over you as he leaned in, laying a kiss on your lips.
His lips moved in motion with yours, perfectly in sync. His kisses weren't as sloppy as Harry's, they were small kisses followed by deepened ones. Tyler laid on you, his hand sliding up your wet leggings, caressing your inner thigh.
You moaned, making him smile as he parted a kiss for a second.
Tyler said softly, "You'll catch a cold if you stay in your clothes."
As much as he was sexy and charming, you couldn't sleep with either of them.
You felt yourself trip over your own words, making intense eye contact with him, "I want you--I do, but I can't sleep with either of you."
Tyler was still smiling, "That's fair." His head shot up when a clap of thunder surrounded the car, "I should get you home now."
The car ride was long, but Tyler managed to make you smile through it all. Once you got out of the car, Tyler said to you, "Tell Harry I need to talk to him tomorrow, will ya?"
"Sure."
Tyler winked at you, making you roll your eyes with a grin. You said, "Goodnight."
"Goodnight babe." He said before driving off.
You entered your home, finding Harry writing in a journal. He looked up and scanned you, "Darling you're soaked."
"I had a long day." You smiled.
Harry walked over to you and tugged on your sweater, "Should I help you get out of those clothes?"
You laughed as you walked away, "Goodnight, Harry."
"Are ya sure?" He joked.
"Goodnight." You said again.

As much as they wouldn't admit, they were alike in some ways.

Ugh, this is soo hard. Harry feels like home. He's warm, a sense of familiarity and warmth. The person that's been right under your nose all this time. But Tyler is exciting, butterfly inducing, like a first crush. He's the guy you know you should probably stay away from but want to know everything about. After this chapter I would say Harry but that school dance ordeal was hella messed up. I know I'd still be angry about it all those years later. Tyler is always there when Harry isn't which is sweet but I think he's more of an after thought to her(me) which will probably cause problems later on. It's like she's asking him to fill H's shoes when he can't be there which is a pretty lofty request and probably makes him feel even worse. Harry could very well be selfish, manipulative in expressing his feelings and Tyler could be genuine. Who knows. I can't say either of them is the better twin at this point. I think we should get to know more about Tyler first. I really wish this sibling rivalry between Harry and Tyler would end though because this "I'm the better twin" stuff is making it hard to choose!
