Rancho Bonita

Chapter 1 Summerville to Rancho Bonita

Corrie's POV

"Oh look we're finally in Rancho!" Corrie's mom exclaimed as their Toyota Corolla passed the green highway sign bearing the area's name.

Corrie rolled her eyes at her mom's excitement. She couldn't believe she was moving from the nice suburb of Summerville to Rancho "Ghetto". Literally, it was a shanty town and the only reason that the property value there was half way decent was because there was a beach.

A couple of Corrie's friends back in Summerville had dated some of the guys living around there as a reason for rebellion against their parents. All the boys were a cross between punk and surfer, which was weird to Corrie. She definitely was not getting involved with any of that.

"We couldn't move to a better area?" Corrie asked sighing.

"Baby you know your dad didn't leave us with much money. Rancho Bonita was the best I could do. They have great schools and you like the beach. Please try to find the beauty in all of this. We're free from those stuffed shirts and all those Stepford wives that had their panties in a bunch."

Corrie just sighed and shook her head. She could not agree with her mother on that. Corrie liked Summerville. It may have been prim and proper, but it fit her quite well. There wasn't half the crime there that it was in Rancho Bonita and everything was well kempt, unlike the scenery that was emerging around her.

Corrie looked around at the neighborhood that her mother just turned into. Palos Verdes, the sign outside had said. The houses looked like they were built in the 70's and the grass was any other color except green. In fact, most of the cars were parked on the grass.

How many people lived in one freakin' house, Corrie thought groaning to herself.

"Look baby, here's our house!" Corrie's mom said as she pulled into the driveway.

Corrie nearly threw up. The house was just like all the other houses around here--out of date with cruncy brown grass.

"Isn't it cute" her mom said shutting off the engine of the Corolla.

"Charming" Corrie said sarcastically.

"Come on lets get these boxes in."

Corrie got out the car and slammed the door. She carried her one box holding all of her possessions. They had sold most of their stuff in order to put a down payment on the house.

Once in the house, Corrie claimed one of the three bedrooms and dropped her box there. Apparently, her mom had bought the house already furnished, so they didn't have to move any of their furniture. But goodness gracious did the previous owners NOT know how to decorate. This was a horror show!

Corrie unpacked her box, struggling not to cry. She missed her family. Her father had left her mother for some blonde slut that was barely older than herself. He kicked her and her mother out of the house, but let her brother Beau stay. Corrie had never felt so unloved and unwanted in her life. How could this have happened her?

"Corrie!" her mother called.

Corrie wiped her eyes and made her way to the kitchen where her mother was. "Yeah".

Her mother was putting the dishes up into the ugly cabinets.

"I start my job this afternoon", her mom said closing one of the cabinets.

"Oh" Corrie said remembering her mom had gotten as a job as a hairdresser.

"Most of the girls bring their daughters with them. Do you want to come?"

Corrie shrugged. "Yeah I guess."

"Leaving in twenty minutes."

Corrie nodded and sighed. She went to the bathroom to make sure she was decent and she was. Her tawny-golden hair was still perfectly straight from the flat ironing she had did that morning. Her make up was light. She decided that she could use some more pink lip gloss and applied some on her lips.

"Corrie its time to go!"

Corrie sighed for the inth time today. She grabbed her purse from her room and made her way to the door.

This is really good! It's well written and I'm intrigued on what's gonna happen next :)

(oh and just a side note I don't know how familiar you are with US geography but just so you know there aren't beaches in Arizona)
