Louis’s POV

I looked over and saw all the kids coming back into the living room. Alex smiled at them and then looked at her dad who was looking at us.

“Would you two like to stay for dinner?” Georgie asked as Alex and I looked at each other and nodded.

“Sure.” We mumbled looking down at the little girl standing in front of us with a smile.

“Hi.” She said as she held out a dandelion for each of us.

“Well thank you.” Alex said cheerfully.

“Thank you.” I smiled.

“You're welcome.” Anniemae’s cheeks blushed.

“I’ll go start the grill, we’re going to have steak tonight.” Her dad, Michael said standing up.

Georgie stood up too and walked to the kitchen while Michael walked to the garage, leaving all of us in the living room. Alex cleared her throat as Anniemae sat on the floor next to us.

“So, do you guys play sports?” I could tell Alex was really trying to make conversation.

“I play football.” Joey was the only one to answer me. “Both kinds.”

“That’s awesome. I’m not good at English football.” Alex pouted and looked at me. “But he’s amazing at it.”

“You are?” John asked with an excited smile.

“Yea, kinda.” I shrugged.

“Ooooh, can we play?” John asked almost jumping out of his seat.

“Sure.” I smiled looking at Alex. “You guys can play the American version.” I laughed.

“Yea, we can play catch or something.” She looked at Joey who was nodding with a smile.

“I do cheerleading.” Anniemae said from the floor.

“I used to do cheerleading too.” Alex was great with kids. “Do you two play any sports?” She asked looking at Patrick and Davie who hadn’t talked.

“We both play football.” Patrick answered shyly.

“Which kind?” She asked n an interested tone.

“Both.” Davie didn't look at us as he talked.

“Are you guys good?” She was really getting them to talk.

“Yea, I could kick your butt!” Oh, someones competitive. “Let’s go play.” Patrick stood up and looked at her encouragingly.

“Oh, it’s on.” She stood up too and followed him to the backyard with the rest of us coming behind her.

I picked Anniemae up and walked quickly outside. She started poking my cheek and when we got outside. Michael was lighting the grill in the huge backyard. The patio had an expensive dinning set and umbrella, there was an in ground poop, a huge patch of grass and a trampoline. You could say they were set on money. I set her down on the grass next to Alex.

“So you're going to kick my butt?” Alex asked teasingly to Patrick.

“Yea.” He put his hands on his hips and stuck his tongue out at her. “You scared?”

“Bring it on munchkin.” She picked the ball up off the ground and handed it to him.

I watched her take off her jacket and look down at Anniemae. They smiled at each other before Alex kneeled down to her. After a few seconds of talking, they both stood up and headed out to play again Patrick and Davie. The boys started with the ball first and when Davie tried to run past Alex, she wrapped her arms around him and lifted him up.

“I gotchya now.” She laughed tickling him.

“That’s cheating.” Patrick puted.

“What’d you say? You want to be tickled too? Okay.” She set Davie down and chased Patrick around as the both laughed.

Anniemae walked over to me and Joey as we watched. She looked up at me so I picked her up and set her on my lap.

“Do you want a water?” Joey asked standing up.

“Yes please.” I said as he walked away.

“Boobear?” The little girl asked quietly.

“Yes?”

“Do you love her?” She asked pointing at Alex.

I smiled looked at Alex as she picked up both boys at once with a smile on her face. In that moment, I realized that I do love her. We say I love you all the time but that’s as friends, I love her as so much more. Why did it take this long to realize it?

“Yes.” I looked down at her as he jaw dropped.

“Awww!”

“Shhh, she doesn’t know yet. I haven't told her.” She nodded as Joey came back out with 2 waters. “You ready to play?”

“Sure.” He said happily.

“Hey sweet pea, let’s go jump on the trampoline while the boys play football.” Alex said to Anniemae.

“Yay!” She cheered getting off my lap.

“Having fun babe?” I asked looking into Alex’s eyes.

“Yes.” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek before racing Anniemae to the trampoline.
