Alex’s POV
“I’m so excited!” I cheered from the passenger seat. “Yay! Yay! Yay! Drive faster Louis!”
“Stop yelling.” He laughed going a little faster.
We were on our way to get my tattoo and Louis seemed to be going in reverse. I looked down at my lap and played with the end of my unbuttoned plaid shirt. The music wasn’t very loud but I could hear it enough to recognize it. I reached over and turned it up before changing the station.
“I love this song.” He smiled rocking his head to the beat. “~I'm sorry I don't understand where all of this is coming from I thought that we were fine~”
“~Oh, we had everything~” I sang the woven in lyrics.
We sang the rest of the song together and laughed at the end. His hand slipped off of my thigh and went back to the steering wheel as we stopped in front the tattoo parlor.
“I almost forgot that you sing.” He said as he put the car in park.
“I can sing but I don’t.” I looked him when he scoffed and turned the car off. “What?”
“You should sing though. You have a great voice.” He smiled at me while we unbuckled.
“Thank you.” I chucked as I unbuckled.
We both got out and hurried into the tattoo shop. The receptionist was a girl a little bit older than me with tatted up arms and long dark hair. I walked over to her with Louis walking being me.
“Hello.” I said with a smile.
“Hi, do you have an appointment?” She asked politely.
“Yea. Alex Jones.” I said as she started going through the appointment book.
“It’s not down here but you’re Louis Tomlinson right?” She asked looking at him and he nodded. “You do have an appointment. And Johnny just finished his last tattoo.”
A guy with short brown hair and tattooed arms walked over to us with a smile. He looked at both of us and shook Louis’s hand.
“Hey Lou.” He smiled and then looked at me. “You must be Alex?”
“Yea, hi.” I said shyly.
“Hi, I’m Johnny.”
“It’s nice to meet you.” I smiled.
“You too. So do you know what you want?” He asked looking into my eyes.
“I want an orange butterfly on a hot pink rose on my left shoulder blade.” I knew in detail what I wanted.
“Okay, that sounds simple enough. If you guys could go take a seat on the couch while I go draw it up, I’ll come get you when I’m done.” He pointed to the red couch in the lobby.
We nodded and walked over to the other room. I pulled my phone out before sitting down next to Louis.
We sat for almost half an hour while I anxiously tapped my foot. Finally I saw Johnny walking toward us with a piece of paper in his hand.
“Hey, I drew it up.” He sat down next to me and handed me the paper.
The butterfly was super detailed and it was beautiful. I looked at the rose and saw how detailed it was, it even had a round raindrop. I could feel a smile creep on my face as I stared at it.
“Do you like it?” He asked shyly.
“Yes, I cant wait to get it tattooed on my skin.” I handed the paper back and then looked at Louis. “What’d you think?”
“I like it a lot.” He smiled and then looked at Johnny.
“Sweet, let’s get started.” Johnny stood up and then helped me up.
Louis’s POV
I was sitting next to Alex in a chair while Johnny worked on her shoulder. She was dealing with the pain really well but sometimes she winced at it while squeezing my hand.
“What's the meaning behind this tattoo?” Johnny asked as their previous conversation died.
“Well, when I was little and I saw a butterfly I thought of it as being free because all they do is fly to what they want and they're beautiful. And the flower is the butterfly’s safe spot; it goes to it when it needs something or just a place to rest. So I guess the butterfly is me in a sense and the flower is my friends. I know that no matter what, I can go to them for a safe place.” She smiled at me as she talked.
“Wow, that’s actually a really nice reason.” Johnny looked at me and then down at her again. “Do you have any other tattoos besides the Mickey/Minnie ones?”
“Yea, I have a saying on my ribs; “Follow your dreams wherever they take you”.” She put her head down again so now she wasn’t looking at me.
“What does that one mean?” I asked curiously.
“It’s actually about you.” She turned to look at me again. “It’s about you following your dreams to go onto X-Factor and that took you all over the world and that’s what I want someday. I want to be able to follow my dreams to get where I want to be.”
“Wha-Whe-Wh-How-“ I couldn’t think of a complete sentence.
“I got it a little bit after you left. My dad got it for me. I wanted something to always remind me of how great everything turned out for you if I never saw you again.” Johnny stopped tattooing and looked at Alex.
“We’re almost done but I need to take a break real quick.” He said awkwardly as he stood up.
“Okay.” She smiled at him and sat up to look at me again. “Are you okay?”
“Yea, I’m just surprised that you did that. I didn't know that you would do that. You doubted that I’d come back?” That kind of hurt me to think that she thought that.
“No, I knew you’d come back but I didn't think I’d see you again since I was moving out to the U.S.” She stood up while we held eye contact. “I guess I thought that when you came back and I was gone, you wouldn’t look for me.”
“Alex,” I stood up so I could really look at her, “I never stopped looking for you when I went home but your parents wouldn’t tell me where you moved to. They thought that you wouldn’t want to see me since I left you.”
“Well, my parents were wrong.” She whispered as she laced her fingers into mine.
We leaned together and kissed quickly before looking into each other’s eyes again. Her eyes were endless because they were so dark and I loved looking into them. We were interrupted by Johnny coming back in to the shop.
“Only 20 more minutes.” He said as everyone went back to their spots.
