End Of The Day

Chapter 35

As soon as I get to my room, I call Tracy. Little do I know that Louis has already called her.
Tracy listens patiently as I recite the whole story to her.
“I’m so sorry, Lea. Just promise me you’ll be patient and open minded. Maybe, just maybe it’s not what you think.”
“Right now, I don’t know anything. I’m going to try to get some sleep, I’ll call you in the morning.”

The next morning, I wake to a knock at the door. My first thought is to turn over to kiss Louis. Then I remember he’s not here.
I open the door to find Tracy standing there. As I reach to hug her there’s suddenly a strong scent of roses. She steps aside. “Bring ‘em in boys.”
I watch, stunned, as several delivery men bring in dozen after dozen of red roses.
“Tracy, what’s happening?”
“Louis called me last night. He arranged for my flight here. Lea, he wanted to make sure you wouldn’t be alone. And obviously the flowers are from him.”
I look around the room, not a surface is left uncovered by a vase. The flowers are beautiful, flying Tracy here is sweet, but is it enough?
“He asked me to give you this, Lea. It’s your favorite, he said.”
She hands me one of Louis’ Adidas hoodies. I take it, hugging it to me, breathing in his scent. The tears come, and I find myself unable to stop them.
Tracy hugs me till I’m out of tears.
“You saw him, Tracy?”
“Yes, he picked me up at the airport.”
“How is he? Is he alright?”
Tracy smirks. “I thought you were angry with him?”
I sigh. “I am, but I also love him and I need to know he’s ok.”
“I’d say he’s about the same as you. Miserable.”

I put on the hoodie, then sit on the couch. As I put my hands in the pocket I feel a piece of paper. I ignore it at first.
Tracy joins me on the couch. “Lea, you know I’m here for you. I have to be the voice of reason though also. Are you sure the text messages you read said specifically that Louis got you the job?”
I think for a moment. “To be honest, Tracy, I can’t remember what I read.”
“Then maybe you should give Louis a chance to explain.”
I look around the room, filled with beautiful flowers, and the woman who’s become my best friend.
“I can’t, Tracy.”
“Ok. I have the room next door, I’m going to go get settled.”
“Thank you for coming, Tracy.”
She smiles. “Thank Louis, Sweetie.”
As she closes the door, I pull the piece of paper from the pocket of the hoodie.
“Lea,
Can we please talk? I miss you desperately, Darling.
I love you,
Louis”
