End Of The Day

No….please tell me this isn’t what I’m thinking.
I scroll to read the rest of the conversation. How could he? With tears rolling down my face, I pack my bags. By the time Louis is back, the taxi is waiting outside.
“Love, why is there a taxi outside?” His eyes lower to see my suitcases. “Lea, what’s going on?”
I throw his phone at him. “You called in a favor to get me that job.”
Louis closes his eyes slowly, blowing out a breath.
“Lea, please let me explain.”
The tears roll down my face. “How could you? You know how important my career is to me. I thought you were the one person I could trust. You promised!”
Louis rushes towards me, grabbing my arm. “Please don’t leave, Lea. Let’s talk. I can explain.”
Shaking my head. “I can’t.”
Louis tries to wipe the tears from my cheeks, they come too quickly though. “Lea…”
“No, Louis. I have to get out of here.”
“Where are you going?”
“A hotel.”

Following me out to the car, Louis grabs my hand. “I can’t let you go, Darling.”
The sweet look of love in his eyes almost causes me to stay. Yet I manage to pull my hand from his.
“You already have, Louis.”
As the taxi pulls away, I look back to see him on his knees, on the pavement.
