End Of The Day

Tracy and I are talking in my room when her phone goes off. I watch as she reads it.
“I need to run downstairs real quick, I’ll be right back.”
“Tracy, is he here?”
She stops at the door, turning back to me. “Yes. Would you like to go down instead?”
I honestly think about it.
“I can’t.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m not sure of anything, Tracy.”
She hesitantly heads out the door.

I move to the window, looking down I recognize Louis’ car. I watch it, and ten minutes later I see Louis get in it. My heart hurts as I watch him pull away.
“Lea?”
I turn back from the window. “I’m sorry, Tracy, I didn’t hear you come in. Is Louis ok?”
“No, Sweetie, he’s not. I don’t think he’s slept or eaten since you left.”
“Shit.”
“He brought your favorite sandwich from that cafe that you loved. He wanted to be sure you ate something.”
The tears pool in my eyes as I take the bag from her.
“And this too.”
I take from her what appears to be a handmade card. All over the card is a collage of pictures of Louis and me from his phone. In the middle of them all, he’s written. “I’m sorry, Lea. Please, let’s talk. I swear it’s not what you think. I love you. I need you. Louis.”
The tears slide down my cheeks. I’m more confused than ever. Again, Tracy hugs me till I run out of tears.
“Let’s eat and watch a movie. You need to not think about all this for awhile. Then we can talk when your mind is a bit more clear.”
With no energy left to argue, I agree. I’m not really hungry, however knowing that Louis brought the sandwich because he’s worried about me, well how can I not eat it?
Halfway through the movie my phone begins to blow up. It’s across the room charging.
“I’ll get it.” Tracy says.
From across the room, I hear. “Oh my goodness.”
I turn to Tracy. “What?”
She walks back, handing me my phone. I look down at the screen.
“Oh my God.” I say as the tears well up.
