Bad

Chapter 9

Beth's POV:

Harry and I decide that we will go to breakfast somewhere near the motel, just in case anything happens.

We walk to a pancake house about two blocks away from the motel. When we get inside there are about five people scattered about. Harry and I sit towards the back at a booth, we sit down facing each other.

Tomorrow's Monday, what am I going to do? I can't miss school! I look at Harry and he looks focused on the menu. I don't think I should ask about school right now. He has already done so much for me I shouldn't bug him about stupid school.

"I'll have the classic pancakes." Harry says. I didn't even realize the waitress was here. I quickly glance at the menu.

"I'll have the blueberry pancakes please." I say smiling at the girl.

"Be right out." She replies.

"Thank you." I smile and she does the same.

"Harry?" He looks at me waiting for the question.

"Will you tell me your story?"

"What do you want to know." He says putting his elbows on the table.

"What will you tell me?" I mirror him.

"Anything you want to know I'lll tell you." He says. I'm surprised, I didn't see that coming.

"Okay then, everything." He laughs.

"Okay I'll tell you everything, where should I start?"

"The day you were born." I say jokingly, but he takes it seriously. I listen.

"Okay," His smile fades. "The day I was born my dad left us. My mum had a hard time hanging on. So on my fifth birthday, it was the five year anniversary of him leaving, so she started some bad habits. Sometimes it was pills, sometimes it was alcohol, sometimes even drugs. It was like that almost everyday until I was about nine. Then, my sister, who was eleven at the time, ran away. She went to go live with our grandmother here in London. She kept in touch with me, she still does, but she left me there, alone. She wasn't the only one suffering. My mum never laid a hand on me or my sister, no matter how drunk, how high she ever got. Even that self didn't think it solved anything. That was one of the only reasons I stayed there, another being that so many people have walked out on her, I don't want to be someone like that.”
He paused, and had some of his water.

“When I was thirteen, I got tired of cleaning up her puke from the kitchen floor, so I would go out a lot. Anywhere if I could. That's when me and the boys really became friends. There was another kid in our group, Zayn, do you remember him? Anyways, once we started to get into some trouble Zayn didn't like it. Sometimes he would be the one to turn us in. A year later his family moved out of town. I can't even remember where. At that time we weren't even doing anything that bad. We would beat up kids who insulted us, sometimes smoke pot, but that's really it. Until we met Nate. Nate was the leader of the baddest gang in probably all of England. When we were fifteen he recruited us to be with him. He treated us like family. That's what we were. He was the father I never had. He only formed a gang because he was getting threats involving his family, he has always been a feared man, some people loved him, some people didn't. Can you believe that his newborn daughter was getting death threats?” He stopped and looked at me with pain behind his eyes.

“That's when he couldn't take it anymore. He added to his gang, us being a part of it. We trained, the trainers weren't very friendly, they would like to play that game with us, you know, the ones I showed you my scars from? Yeah, anyway if you didn't do something right, you had to play the game, if you refused to play the game, you would get a cigarette bud in your wrist. Nate hated it, but he didn't do anything to stop it. After a while we got pretty good at the things they were teaching us. So good, the boys and I could beat the trainers one on one. Colton and Tate would always fall behind in their training, they would always have to play the games, Tate would always be better than Colton, but everyone respected Colton more. We offered to help them with their training but they said they didn't need help from 'pussies like you' although I never understood how that applied because they were always the ones failing. Almost a year later Nate had come to like the boys and me very much. He wanted us, him, and a couple other members to go kill one of the people who has tried to kill his daughter before. Literally kill, like sneak into his house and steal the baby to murder her kill. But of course, Nate didn't let that happen, he heard her scream. Nate ran into her room and almost beat the guy to death. His daughters name is Tess. All of us fucking love Tess, she's about four now. If I very had a daughter, I would want her to be exactly like Tess. So when someone almost got her no one was happy. Tate couldn't care less, but Colton cared. He loved Tess too. When it was time to go, Colton, Tate, and a couple other members stayed behind to watch the compound and Tess and Nate's wife, Grace. Anyway, we got there and it was a total disaster. It's like the knew we were coming, I would've died if Niall hadn't pushed me out of the way of a bullet. It still hit my shoulder, but he saved my life. I saw that Nate had been shot and that he was dying. I ran over to him. He just looked at me and smiled. He told me to make sure that Grace and Tess were always safe and that he wanted me to start a new gang with the people I knew were loyal and then he died.” Harry took a deep breath.

“We shot all the people shooting at us. The other members that came with us died too. We took all of their bodies and brought them back to the compound. Grace was devastated when she saw Nate's body. She got cancer in her lungs about three months later, and died about six after that. Nate and Grace are barried right next to each other. They really were in love. I did what Nate told me to do. I even took in Tate and Colton. I don't really know what happened, I think that Tate convinced Colton that it's just better not to care. They left. We got some old members aothers chose to live a different life. Tate and Colton got no one. So they did their own recruiting. Those were the scrawny ass kids you saw at the party. They think they're the shit, they're not. Anyway, Tess lives in Wolverhampton with Liam's family, they love her like their own. We go visit her as much as we can. We love her. We promised Nate that we would always look out for her and that's what we do. If Tate ever threatened the life of Tess, we would probably kill him. And I know that sounds crazy, but not when you've lived a life like mine. We go to school because it's the law. We also don't want to be dumb. And it's a good profile. But that's pretty much it." He finishes. Holy shit.

"Oh my god, Harry. I've heard so many different stories about you guys, but I had no idea." I whisper. "I'm so sorry."

"Don't be. Besides, your pancakes are getting cold." I didn't realize the waitress had brought our food in the middle of Harry's story. That's probably why he stopped talking for like five seconds.

But, oh my god.
