Where Do Broken Hearts Go (Sequel to You and I)

Niall’s POV

The next morning, I woke up and I didn’t even realize Connie and I fell asleep. I was teaching her how to play this song. She wasn’t awake yet, so her head was resting against my shoulder.

I slowly got off up the couch and placed her head on the sofa. I went upstairs to go shower and get ready for the day. Since Connie was in Ireland for a bit, I was planning on taking her around town

While I was in the shower, all I could think about was what happened yesterday. I don’t know, it felt so real. But I still don’t believe she sees that I still really like her.

When I got out of the shower, I went to my closet to find something to wear. I just wore something casual such as t-shirt and shorts. Afterwards, I went downstairs. My mom was in the kitchen and so was Connie. She seemed like she already got ready.

“Niall, even Connie is faster than you in getting ready.” My mom said.

Connie started laughing.

I went to sit down to enjoy some breakfast.

Connie leaned in and said, “Sorry I kept you up at night.”

“It’s fine, I didn’t mind. Do you want to go walk around town for a bit? I can show really good places to eat.” I said.

She laughed.

“Sure.” She said.

After we finished breakfast, we headed around town. I don’t think Connie has ever tried Nandos, so I’m going to take her there.

“Where are we going?” Connie asked.

“We are eating.” I said.

“No complaints to that, but eating what?” She asked.

“You’ll see.” I said as I smiled.

That’s the thing I like about Connie. She always down to eat anything like me.

We pulled up to Nandos and go out of the car.

“Isn’t this place your favourite restaurant?” She asked.

“Yes! And you’re going to try it.” I said.

“I’m so excited yay!” She said.

We both headed into the restaurant and took our seats. A waiter came to us quickly.

“Hey guys, how are you doing? What can I get you guys?” He asked.

“I would like the peri peri chicken please.” I said.

Connie looked sort of confused as to what to order.

“Um, same thing as him?” She said.

I laughed.

“Your order is coming right up.” The waiter said.

“Why are you laughing?I never ate here!” She said.

“It’s just funny.” I said.

Connie and I were just making small conversations until our food came.

When it did come, we both started to dig in.

“This is so good.” She said.

“I’m glad you liked it.” I said.

“What do you want to do next?” She asked.

“Let’s get ice-cream or go to some desert place.” I said.

“This is why we can always go get food together.” She said as laughed.

I laughed as well.

Connie’s POV

When we finished, we left the restaurant and started walking around town. We stopped by an ice-cream place to get ice-cream and kept on walking around town.

All of a sudden out of no where, paparazzi came running towards us and started taking pictures.

“Oh no, come with me!” Niall said as he grabbed my hand.

I didn’t even have time to react as he quickly grabbed my hand as we ran down the street.

We both ran and hid in an alleyway. We watched the paparazzi run past the alleyway without them knowing we were here.

“Maybe, they went that way!” One paparazzi said.

They ran off.

We were both out of breath.

I started to laugh.

“That was fun.” I said as I kept on eating my ice cream.

We both walked out of the alleyway.We looked in either direction to see if people were following us.

“Does this always happen?” I asked.

“Yeah, every single time when I come back home.” He said.

“Thanks for taking me out to eat by the way.” I said.

“No problem.” He said as he smiled.

I had a great time with Niall. It actually reminded me before when we used to always go out and try food places.

I know what you’re thinking, I only think of him as a friend. And I hope he does as well.

Not long until we got home, my phone started to ring. It was Evan.

Niall’s POV

Soon after we got home, Connie and I were just talking when her phone started to ring. Her facial expression sort of went from being happy to sad. I wonder why.

“Hold on, I have to take this.” She said.

She walked to her room and closed the door behind her.

Connie’s POV

“Hold on, I have to take this.” I said.

I walked to my room and closed the door behind me.

“Connie, you haven’t called me since you landed in Ireland.” Evan said.

“Yeah, sorry.I’ve just been busy. Do you want to skype?” I asked.

“Um, maybe-” He said until someone interrupted him.

“Evan, babe, do you want to go watch a movie?” A girl said.

So, who was with him?

“Who was that…” I asked.

“It was no one…” Evan said.

“Well, I wouldn’t know anyone who would call you babe…” I said as I tried to hold back tears.

“Connie, listen-“ Evan said.

“Stop trying to redeem yourself.I’m done with this.” I said as I hung up the phone.

I started to tear a lot. I needed to go out and get some fresh air.

Niall’s POV

I was downstairs in the kitchen when all of a sudden, I saw Connie run downstairs and out the door.

I went and ran after her.

She went to a nearby park. I saw her from a distance as she was sitting on a swing.

“Connie… are you alright?” I asked.

She looked at me a bit startled.

“Oh, Niall.I didn’t see you there.” She said as she was wiping her tears. I didn’t think she wanted me to see her cry.

“What happened?” I asked.

She was sort of looking down and didn’t really want to say much.

I didn’t want to force anything out of her.I decided that I should walk away and give her some time.

“I’ll leave if you want me to.” I said.

I was about to walk away until she said, “I do deserve so much better.”

I turned around.I knew what she meant when she said that.

“What happened between you and Evan?” I asked.

She told me about the things she had been hearing around campus and what happened during her phone call with him.

“He’s such a jerk.” I said I was angry that I just wanted to go and punch him in the face.

“Yeah, he is. It’s funny too because I even gave him a second chance. I really should’ve known better.” She said.

She kept on wiping her tears.

I didn’t know how to comfort her. I grabbed her hand and gave it a reassurance squeeze.

“It’s not your fault. He’s such a jerk and don’t put yourself down for that. And you do deserve better.” I said. Maybe even someone like me.

I leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

She smiled a bit.

Connie’s POV

“Yeah, he is. It’s funny too because I even gave him a second chance. I really should’ve known better.”I said.

I kept on wiping my tears.

All of a sudden, he grabbed my hand and gave it a reassurance squeeze.

“It’s not your fault. He’s such a jerk and don’t put yourself down for that. And you do deserve better.” He said.

He leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

I smiled a bit.

We both walked back to his house. I didn’t really want to do much, so I just stayed in my room the whole night listening to music. I really can’t believe Evan did this to me, again. I have never felt so hurt and betrayed. He really got me to believing he had feelings for me.

Niall’s POV

We walked back to my house. Connie wanted to be left alone so we went into the guest room.Evan’s such an asshole.

How could he do that to her? He doesn’t know that she’s the sweetest, kindest, most genuine person out there. She deserves someone who will give her their world.I would’ve. I hate seeing her hurt and this is not the first time she has been hurt by him. Also, the fact that she has been through a lot in her life and still tries to put a smile on her face.

I couldn’t sleep, so I spent the night laying in bed.

It was 3 a.m. when I heard screaming coming from her room. She was having nightmares again.

“No, stop! Get away from me!” She said as her eyes were still closed.

I went up to her.

“Connie, wake up.It’s okay.” I said.

She woke up all of a sudden.

“Niall, I’m sorry for waking you up.” She said.

“It’s fine. I think I’m an expert in calming you down when you have nightmares.” I said.

She laughed a bit.

“How are you feeling?” I asked.

“Not the best, but I’m trying to be better.” She said.

“Well, try to get some sleep.Goodnight Connie.” I said.

Right when I was about to leave her room, she called my name.

“Niall!” She said.

I turned around.

“Can you stay here with me?” She asked.

I was sort of surprised when she asked me.

“Sure.” I said.

I sat on the other side of the bed. Connie started to close her eyes.

I saw her sleeping, peacefully. I kissed her on the forehead.

She smiled afterwards.

And soon, she was sound asleep.
