Where Do Broken Hearts Go (Sequel to You and I)

Chapter 25

Connie’s POV

It was seven in the morning. Today was the day I went to Ireland. Evan had came over and had gotten up early to drive me to the airport. I was going to be in Ireland for about four days.

When we reached the airport, Evan kissed me goodbye as I was about to board on to my flight.

“See you soon?” He said.

“Of course.” I said as I smiled at him.

I went through the whole airport shenanigans as I went to find my seat in the plane.

Next stop, to Ireland.

Niall’s POV

I was kind of nervous. My brother was going to pick Connie up from the airport. I was pacing back and forth around the guest room.

My mom came in and saw that I was really nervous.

“Hey Niall, you alright?” She asked.

“Not really since you didn’t tell me earlier that Connie was staying with us.” I said.

“I’m sorry, Niall. I knew you wouldn’t like the idea. But it’s so much easier to stay at our place than pay for a hotel. She did pay for the plane ticket here.” She said.

“I could’ve just paid for a hotel for her.” I said.

“It’s not necessary. And besides, it won’t be as bad as you think.” She said.

“Easy for you to say.” I said.

The door suddenly started knocking. My mom went downstairs to go get it. I was upstairs looking at who was at the door. When my mom opened it, it was Connie.

She was holding her luggage as my brother helped her carry her bag while she entered our house.

“Connie! It’s so good seeing you!” My mom said as she went in for a big hug.

“It’s so good to see you too Maura!” She said as she smiled.

“Here, I’ll show the guest room.” My mom said.

I realized I was in the guest room and if I walk out now, Connie will see me.I ran and hid in the bathroom.

My mom and Connie came into the room.

“I’ll let you settle in and then you can come downstairs for food. I bet you’re hungry.” She said.

“Thank you so much. Yes, I’m always hungry and I love your food.” I said as I laughed.

My mom left the room.

Connie was unpacking her things and I was trying to think of a way to get out of the guest room.

Her back was facing the washroom as I tried to slowly tip-toe out of the room.

All of sudden, I didn’t realize my foot hit the door as I screamed.

Connie jumped and turned around.

“Niall? Are you alright?” She said as she helped me.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I said.

“Why were you in the guest bathroom?” She said as she laughed.

“Oh, you know, I was checking to see if everything was working.” I said. I was a bad liar.

Connie knew I was one too.

“Well, thanks?” She said as she laughed.

I smiled.

“It’s great seeing you.” She said as she leaned in for a hug.

I missed hugging her. I missed holding her. I missed kissing her.

“Well, I’m just going to let you finish. See you downstairs.”

My parents, Greg, Connie and I all sat the dinner table. Everyone was talking to Connie asking her how she has been, how school was and all the small talk.

“Are you excited to be getting married this weekend?” Connie asked Greg.

“Super excited to spend the rest of my life with Denise. Thank you so much for coming.” Greg said.

“No problem, I wouldn’t want to miss this special moment.” She said.

Connie then turned to me and asked,

“Niall, how has tour been going?” She asked.

It took me by surprised.

“Oh, um… it’s been great. Excited to continue it this summer.” I said as I gave her a small smile.

She smiled back.

After dinner, we were all in the living room hanging out for a bit before it was time to go to bed. Sometimes, I can’t really fall asleep so I stay up on my laptop going on the internet.

Everyone was probably sleeping right now. I felt a bit hungry, so I wanted to go downstairs to get some food. I opened the door to my room.I saw that Connie’s door was open and she wasn’t in there.

From upstairs, I could hear a strumming of a guitar and someone singing. I went downstairs to see who it was. Connie was in the living room and she was strumming my guitar in her hand.

She was singing and playing, “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith. I loved hearing her sing. I loved her voice and it reminded me of the time when I brought her on stage to sing.

“It’s nice.” I said.

Connie seemed startled. Probably because she didn’t seem me coming.

“You literally scared me twice today.” She said as she laughed.

“I’m sorry.” I said as I laughed too.

“But thank you. Did I wake you up?” She asked.

“No, I just wanted some food and I heard you.” I said.

“Of course you did.” She said as she laughed.

“Why are you still up?” I asked.

“I couldn’t sleep. And even if I did, I might’ve woken you guys up from my screaming from my nightmares.” She said.

I remember that. She stopped having them when I used to sleep next to her. I remember her sister telling me she started having them again and she always called my name.

“Well, do you want some food?” I asked.

“Sure!” She said.

We both walked to the kitchen. I went into the fridge and got us some ice-cream. We both just sat at the kitchen table eating our ice cream.

“Thanks for the ice cream.I love it.” She said.

“No problem.” I said.

We kept on stuffing our faces.

“How have you been?” I asked.

“It’s been stressful with school and everything. But I’m happy I get a break for a while.” She said.

“How have you and Evan been?” I said.

I was a bit curious.

“Oh, we’ve been alright. We’ve had our problems here and there.” She said as she looked down at her ice cream.

“It’s been hard, I just feel very distant from him lately. And I feel like it’s my fault.” She said.
“Why do you think it’s your fault?”I asked.

Connie kept on looking at her ice cream.

“I’m going to go to bed now. Thanks for the ice cream.” She said as she walked back upstairs.

There has to be a reason why she ignored my question.

Connie’s POV

I walked back to my room. I really didn’t want to tell Niall about why I’ve been very distant from Evan. The real reason was that I heard some rumors that Evan was seeing another girl for the past couple of months. Rumors spread fast even when you’re one campus. I didn’t have any proof nor do I want to make myself believe that. I gave Evan a second chance because I thought his feelings were genuine towards me. Now, I’m not that sure.

I spent half an hour thinking about this until I suddenly start to fall asleep.

Niall’s POV

I couldn’t sleep. I wanted to know why she felt distant from Evan. Was it the thing I said to her that night? I was just thinking when I heard someone screaming and yelling.

I ran to Connie’s room and it seemed like she was having nightmares.

“Help, why are you doing this to me?!” She screamed in her sleep.

“Connie, calm down, it’s okay.” I said as I tried to comfort her.

She eventually calmed down.

She looked so peaceful while she was sleeping. When she used to have nightmares, I would be able to hold her. And now I can’t do that.

I leaned in and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

“Goodnight, Connie.” I said

I walked back to my room.
