Shiver(narry)(Boyxboy)

I don't know exactly how long I was in that store, but it felt like an eternity. The first half was trying to figure out what Niall's favorite shoe was... Then I had to figure out the size. I don't really know why I didn't just look at the shoes he'd thrown into my garbage... Oh well. When I finally left the store, I was pretty confident that I got the right shoe... and the right size.
Good thing there's such thing as exchanges right?
I walked home by myself, I guess that's another good thing about small towns... You can walk to wherever it is you want to go. I didn't mind walking, in fact I preferred it. I got to tune out the world as I walked, leaving me alone in my thoughts.
Sometimes though, that wasn't a good thing.
Not that I cared right now though.
The conversation with Niall was still fresh in my mind, and it had been eating away at me for the past 24 hours. I didn't mean to be my asshole self... I just didn't really know how to show the... less asshole side... Maybe when I give him the shoes he'll realize I actually care.
I just don't show it.
Been hurt too many times to show it.
By the time I reached our block, the sun was slowly starting to set in the background. It was my favorite time of day now, the sky being painted different shades of orange and red. When I made it to NiaIl's door, I was almost tempted just to leave the shoes on the doorstep, but in this moment I wanted to share it with him.
So I knocked on the door.
He answered it with a slight frown, his eyes red almost as if he'd been crying. I didn't say anything about it though... I didn't want to open my mouth in fear that I'd say something stupid.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, his voice somewhat scratchy.
"I uh... I bought you shoes... I'm sorry for like.. Puking on your other ones. I'm not sure if I got the right kind, and if I didn't I can head back to the store and get you a different pair." I stuck my hand out that held the plastic bag, and he took it from me with a shaky hand.
"Thank you... I didn't think you'd actually do it.""It was the least I could do... You know for being an asshole yesterday and aII..."
"Still, you really didn't have to." Niall smiled softly, biting his bottom lip a little as he looked at me. I tried not to squeal at how adorable it was...
"I did, hey Niall?"
"Yeah?"
"I was wondering if you'd... Never mind, it's stupid."
"What? Whatever it is, I'm sure it's not stupid."
"I was just wondering if you'd like to watch the sunset with me is all..." It fell silent again, and for a moment I thought he was going to laugh in my face... slamming the door as he called me an idiot.
"I... I would love to actually." I couldn't fight the smile on my face, and I almost did jump up and down in pure happiness... Self control.
I've got to invest in that...
"Great... I'll uh... Meet you in the back?"
"My backyard or yours?"
"Either, they've both got a great view."
"WeIl since you're already here, why don't we just head to mine?" I nodded, following him into his house. It wasn't that different from mine really, well except his was filled with pictures of a little boy and a girl.
Does that mean he's straight?
I sure hope not...
When we made it to the back, the sun was already halfway gone. Niall sat down on his backporch, setting his elbows on his knees. I sat next to him, sneaking a glance at him through the corner of my eye.
"I've never really watched a sunset before." He said after a minute or so.
"Really?"
"Yeah... In Ireland I lived in an area that was just... City. There wasn't any scenery so the sunsets looked awful."
"I grew up watching sunsets. My dad used to make me watch the sunrises too. I guess they just add to the list of reasons why I never want to leave this place."
"How long is that list?‘
"Right now? It's got about 10 things."
"Care to share?"
"Maybe another time."
"I understand... I'm guessing you've lived here your entire life then..."
"Born and raised. This place is the only place I've known, not that I'm really complaining. I mean look... It's beautiful here."
"I can agree with you on that one. I don't think I ever want to go back."
"Don't you have family down there though?"
"Not anymore." Niall didn't even seem sad at the statment, but in fact he seemed almost bitter. I didn't say anything about it, finding it to be wiser to be quiet.
"Are you cold?" I asked after a few moments, the sun was almost completely gone now... The night sky finally appearing.
"No."
"You're shivering..."
"No I'm not..." He shook his head, but I could see the goosebumps that decorated his arms. I was tempted to pull him into my arms, however I knew he didn't like to be touched.
"Maybe we should head in...""No, the sun isn't gone yet. I don't want to go in yet."
"You sure? I don't want you getting sick..."
"I'm sure. It's not everyday you get moments like this."
"Sunsets happen everyday..."
"I know that. It's just... each one is different, and I wanna take in every second of it."
"Okay." It fell silent again, the two of us just sitting on that porch as we watched the sun finally disappear completely. We didn't get up after it did, instead we just sat there. I didn't quite know why... I wasn't going to complain though.
"Wanna do this again tomorrow?" Niall asked after what seemed like forever.
"Yeah... I think I'd like that." I replied, not even trying to hide my smile.
Maybe he didn't hate me after all....
