Valerie’s POV:

Have you ever wondered what life is all about? You could search the world and never figure it out. This might seem like lyrics from a song, a happy song to be exact. But to me, I could relate to it even when I am in my current agony. What is life, if there isn’t someone to share it with. That someone who is willing to take your hand in his, and walk beside you across the obstacles and joy that the road has for you.





That someone that would push you forward, and tell you that you should never quit, never fail and never stop dreaming of a better tomorrow. Or in my situation, what if life was able to snatch that tender hand that was holding yours? Would you go on and walk the thin line alone, or would you pause and rush to find your missing half. The half that you could never be complete without.





I am in the living room, but not completely here. The inspector is addressing me but Valerie isn’t here. The Valerie everyone knows, is physically seated on a sofa. But the inner Valerie has transformed into a Phoenix who burned herself by its own flames of sadness. The sadness is represented by the remains and ashes of the Phoenix. Even in the myth, the Phoenix is determined to rise back on its feet, and relit the flame and collect its glorious self.





But the Phoenix Valerie is not able to regain composure, because she had sunk under the ashes from her devastating loss. Harry is the flame that was lighting up my world like nobody else. He was the only human, who touched me and allowed me to touch his soul. He allowed me to understand the difference between life and love. However, he was able to make me understand that without love, life is only a dream. But, I don’t need love, I need Harry.






“(He sighs) Miss, I’d hate to repeat myself. Please, would you try to focus?” The manly voice of the inspector snapped me out of my haze, and for that I had to nod simply. “When was the last time you saw the young man?” I didn’t wait to reply in a monotonous voice: “I went upstairs, I found the transmitter. My aunt and father followed my footsteps, but Harry stayed downstairs waiting. Before the three of us got the chance to get downstairs, I heard him… (My eyes begin to blink down the tears) I heard…”





I couldn’t finish my words, because I had to drown myself in my silent cries. “Inspector, she isn’t feeling well. This is hard for her, and I would appreciate it if you allowed her to take a moment to herself. (She helps me up) Come now, honey. Let me take you upstairs.”





My aunt guided me slowly to the upper level, while my eyes were drooping. As we were heading towards my room, I stopped when I reached his. My aunt noticed why, and for that she opened the door slowly. I entered his room, and closed it behind me. I didn’t want anyone with me. I inhaled as much air as possible, sniffing his sweet scent that was hidden in these four walls.





I walked towards his bed, noticing his sketch pad lying on it. i treated the booklet like glass, opening it gently and cautiously. I don’t want his fingertips to be erased because of mine. They are the only thing left for me to feel him. As I opened the first page, my heart sank deeper into the ocean of my own blue eyes.
