A Month In Sin
05. Awkward Rides
At this certain moment I was grateful for my gift of being great at reading a GPS and remembering directions, whereas Eris was not blessed with that gift.
As I hopped into the driver's seat, I looked and saw Niall open the passenger seat.
"Isn't Eris sitting there?" I asked as politely as I could.
"Now, Ori, you need to sit by your husband," Eris said, making me jump in surprise.
Once the initial shock wore off, I glared at her before letting out a huff. Eris gave me her phone, knowing me too damn well that most of my music consisted of One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer or any artist they have tweeted about, worn their shirt, went to their concert, opened for them, or ever talked about.
I pulled off as the music and the conversations started.
"So, I'm getting plastered tonight. What about you guys?" Eris asked.
My eyebrows rose as I looked at her through the rearview mirror. "Are you serious, Eris? After what happened last night?" Anyone could hear my surprise.
"I mean, it’s not like it can happen again."
"Getting married is not what I’m talking about."
"I would have no problem with having sex again."
I shook my head. Eris was so carefree, probably too carefree for her own good.
Just to make this conversation worse, Wasted by Tiesto came on. Eris started screaming the lyrics, and I bit my lip to hide my smile. I was supposed to be mad at her, but when she acts stupid like this it was hard not to laugh.
Shortly, Luke and Eris were both singing the lyrics while Niall and I continued to pout from the front. Out of nowhere, Eris leaned forward and grabbed her phone, searching for a certain song.
She changed it Lollipop by Framing Hanley and started singing along.
"You have no idea how much this is turning me on," Luke said.
"Gross. Is that all you think about?" I asked, applying a little more pressure to the gas pedal.
I wanted out of the car with this pervert who I used to love, although I am a Michael girl.
"I just lost my virginity, give me a break," he defended.
"So did I, you don't see me just thinking about sex," I fought, wanting him to stop thinking about my sister like that.
"Apparently yours wasn't good," he said, smirking at Niall.
"I know girls that would disagree," Niall smugly said.
My nose wrinkled in disgust. I made a mental note to get tested in twenty-one days for AIDS.
I slowed down a little before grabbing her phone and changing the song to something better than this metal crap.
As I saw Santa Stole My Girlfriend by The Maine, I smiled and clicked on it. Once it came through the radio, I looked at Eris through the rearview with a smirk.
Once she recognized it, she started dying out laughing. I started whisper-singing the lyrics at the chorus.
"Santa, you bitch. Didn't get a damn thing on my Christmas list. All I got was this broken heart and that's it. Santa, you bitch. Oh, there's only one thing that I truly wish. I wish my old girl would've never kissed Saint Nick."
Eris was still laughing about the whole song, because it was actually really funny and probably the only Christmas song she could tolerate. Luke and Niall started laughing at the chorus, but Niall was looking at me with curiosity.
I sped up, wanting the staring, the singing, and me actually losing control of things to stop. The wedding wasn't being run by me, but it was an organized event that wouldn’t be chaotic like things were right now. I needed order in my life, and after last night, it was anything but.
"Ori, slow down! I would like to make it to the wedding!" I heard Eris say, breaking me from my thoughts.
Damn it, Eris. I just started thinking.
"I'm only going fifteen over the speed limit. It's not like you haven't done worse," I defended, taking account of my speed.
"True, but I'm used to it. How many times do you speed?" she asked.
"All the time."
"Okay. How many times do you speed more than five miles over the speed limit?"
I mentally cursed.
"Fine. I'll slow down, but you still have no room to talk," I said. She stuck her hands up in surrender.
While everyone else in the car joked around like nothing had gone on—Niall not as much as Eris and Luke, but still more than me—I continued driving along. Any time a 5 Seconds of Summer or One Direction song came on, I changed it before five seconds into the song. Niall and Luke noticed, but they didn’t actually say anything about it.
My eyes drifted to the ring resting on my left hand before snapping back to the road.
Everything was completely out of whack and I just wanted peace and control again. Don’t get me wrong, I knew just how lucky I was to be married to Niall Horan. I knew how many girls would kill to be in my position, where they could hold him when they need him and kiss him when he comes home.
I couldn’t do that, however. We didn’t even know each other. Just because you read about a celebrity on a magazine or through a blog doesn’t mean that you know them. He didn’t know that my dad didn’t get to see me take my first steps because he had to stay away from us in order to protect us. He didn’t know I have body guards that stay close to me at all times, and pretty much all of them are father figures at this point.
I dreamed of marrying Niall, but not like this. I dreamed of a big white wedding, not a wedding I can’t even begin to remember and I’m not sure I want to.
This is not how I had my life planned out. I was going to start working towards a degree and move away, becoming the best wedding planner in Los Angeles.
I snapped out of my thoughts and shook my head, looking to see Niall staring at me with concern. Eris and Luke were already out of the car and heading towards the venue door. I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out of the car.
“Eris!” I called.
She and Luke both stopped, but only she wore a smirk as she turned around to face us. Niall and I ran to catch up, walking inside at the same time.
This was going to be interesting.
