A Month In Sin
15. First Dates
I called Eris, absolutely freaking out, but she was happy. Don’t get me wrong, I was ecstatic.
I told her our decision, which she thought that for our sake, that was probably the best thing to do. So, I took the cheap ring off and placed it by the bathroom sink. If we were going to do this right, we wouldn’t wear our rings to constantly remind us of our mistake. We needed to be able to enjoy ourselves, without the cloud of us being married hanging over our heads.
“Hey, Niall?” I called, stepping out of my bedroom the morning of.
“Where are we going?”
“We’re being tourists,” he yelled, making me squeal in excitement.
Niall Horan gets to be my tour guide for London, somewhere I have always dreamed of going. We were strictly told not to leave Las Vegas, and I listened- even though I wanted to move to Los Angeles, I had never been. My parents weren’t too keen on me leaving for Los Angeles when I got older, but they eventually got over it when they realized it was a dream.
After washing my body off, I stepped out of the shower and took off the shower cap. No, I didn’t wash my hair every day because it was bad for your hair. I sprayed my hair with a little dry shampoo, effectively getting rid of what little oil I had. I then curled my hair into loose waves and stuck a beanie on it. Following that, I put on my many layers. It was December… in London. It was below freezing, and snow was falling rapidly.
I started with a black wool base, and then put on my black skinny jeans and grey sweater. I put on some thick socks, and then my black Hunter rainboots.
Once I was dressed, I did my makeup. I kept it neutral with brown eyeshadow and pink lipstick. I filled in my eyebrows- so it would look like I had them- and then grabbed my puffer jacket and leather gloves from my closet, walking out of my room.
When I did, I saw Niall walk out in skinny jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt. He had a thick jacket in his hands.
“Do you get cold easily?” he asked, looking at the jacket in my hands.
“Yes, very. It’s also much colder here than it is in Vegas,” I said, making him nod.
We then walked out, with Niall locking the door behind us.
We hopped in his car- him taking me to a cute little deli for lunch. We ordered coffee to go and we walked.
“I brought the camera with us, if you wanted to film,” he said as he sipped his tea.
“That would be great. It will give the fans an insider view,” I said, winking.
He laughed and pulled it out of his jacket packet- since it was a small camera.
I immediately hit record after turning it to face him.
“Welcome to Day 4!” I said from behind the camera, making him laugh.
“Hello, everyone!” Niall said, making me smile.
“People are staring at us like we are weird. We probably don’t want to attract attention to ourselves, but it’s fine. We are on our first date and Niall is showing me London!” I said, excitement evident in my voice.
“Let me have the camera so you can focus on being a tourist,” Niall said.
“Aren’t tourists supposed to want to film and take pictures of everything?” I asked.
“True, but I’m still taking the camera,” he said, as I handed him the camera. “So, Ori, who are you wearing?” he asked, pretending to be a pap.
I laughed and scrunched my nose.
“Um. I think I’m wearing… Stella McCartney? I’ve had these pants for so long, I don’t even know. I know I’m wearing Hunters boots because they are super warm and keep water and snow out,” I said, as Niall went down to show my feet.
“What are we going to see today, Ori?”
“I don’t know, Mr. Horan. What are we going to see today?” I asked.
This took a lot… not knowing the exact plans of where we are going, what we are doing, and the times.
“Well, Ms., um,” he paused, making me look at him.
“Isn’t this a country song? I don’t even know my last name? Well, this time, I know my last name… he just doesn’t know my last name,” I said, laughing. “Henessey. My name is Ori Henessey.”
He smiled and finished his sentence.
“Well, Ms. Henessey, we are going to the London Eye, Big Ben, London Tower, and Tower Bridge. The bridge is best to see at night.”
“As long as we don’t do anything stupid like climb to the top,” I said, winking at him.
“It wasn’t that bad. Plus, we had harnesses,” he said, making me laugh.
“We are going to end the recording, and we will record at every place we go, edit it, and make one video of our first date!” I said.
Niall then ended the video and tucked it back in his pocket, zipping it so it wouldn’t get stolen. I was shocked when he grabbed my hand, interlacing our fingers. I honestly didn’t mind it though. His warm hand felt good.
So, we walked around London and continued filming. At the London Eye, I had the camera as we went to the top. Niall was standing beside me, really close but not uncomfortably close. He pointed various places out to me, being mindful of the camera.
Following us being stereotypical tourists, I asked if we could go to Nando’s- not to be a carroty fan, but because I really wanted to try it. It sounded good.
Niall’s hand rarely left mine, and when it did he eventually laced our fingers together again.
On the way back to the car, my phone started blasting Gold Digger and I groaned, but answered it.
“What?” I snapped.
“I heard your married now. Who is the loser?”
“Not a gold digger like you. Look, Clay, we broke up over a year ago. Why are you so obsessed with me?” I asked, making Niall look at me with raised eyebrows.
“You didn’t even defend him! So, he is a loser! Does he know that you are obsessed with One Direction and would dump him in a heartbeat if Niall Horan came knocking on your door?”
Niall must have heard that because he started laughing hysterically, effectively making me laugh.
“If Niall Horan comes knocking on my door, that means he forgot his keys,” I said through my giggles before hanging up.
“Who was that?” Niall asked, with a light smile on his face.
“An ex-boyfriend I dated a little over a year ago. We didn’t even date long because I stopped paying for things when I realized that he was just a gold-digging douche bag,” I said, making him nod.
“That conversation is for somewhere far less public… like the house. Yeah, the house is a perfect place,” I said, making him chuckle.
Suddenly, my phone beeped again making me sigh, until I saw it was a text from Elys.
How you holding up, little sister?
I smiled and closed it back out. I would text him when we got to the car.
“You are popular, huh?” he asked.
“That was just my brother. He was just checking in, which reminds me to call in tomorrow. I haven’t talked to Dad in days. He is probably worried,” I said, making Niall smile.
“Your family is close?”
“Eris and I are definitely the closet two, but we kind of didn’t have a choice but to be a close-knit family. Eris definitely is more a Daddy’s Girl than I am though, but Claire is the worst of them all. I guess because she is the first born and first girl, but Claire has had Dad wrapped around her finger since day one. She bats her eyelashes and gets pretty much whatever,” I said, making him nod.
We then reached the car, and he opened the door for me before running over to his side. As the heat reached me, I realized just how cold I really was. It was a peaceful ride home, and again, Niall intertwined my hand with his on the center console. It was then that I noticed he still wore his wedding ring.
I played with it, making him smile.
“Did you take yours off?” he asked.
“I did, but only because I wanted today to not be thinking about the piece of cold metal resting on my finger. I wanted to focus on this,” I said, gesturing to our hands.
He nodded in understanding.
“I didn’t because if Mum saw pictures of us and I didn’t have it on, she would kill me. She already wants to,” he said, making me grimace.
“Me meeting your family is good thing?” I asked.
“Yeah, it is,” he said, taking a quick glance at me.
I smiled and looked at the slick London roads as we headed back home.
