Xenophobia

THIRTY ONE

Please don't hate me for not updating! My family and I took an unexpected trip to London where we participated in the Pride Parade and many other fun activities! I literally just got home and it's 12am. I wrote this on the plane ride home so please to excuse any errors and whatnot. Enjoy the chapter and remember to comment, vote and share!!!

The dragon-like fire was roaring with fury as it spat charcoal. The immense heat that slapped my face made up for the harsh low temperatures of the night. I had sobered up enough to drag myself home where I got ready to attend this event; The Senior Bonfire.

Electronic music triggered the sensory receptors in my ears as I found myself dancing with my fellow schoolmates, even with some teenagers from our rival schools. With a beer in one hand and the other conjoined with a girl's name I found out to be Anna, all my troubles and worries seemed to disappear into thin air. I was no longer moping around the green eyed boy who I came to know as Harry Styles.

Sip after sip, my the liquid in my bottle decreased and within minutes, it was all gone. I retracted my hand from Anna, stumbling my way over to the cooler to fetch another drink. My lips etched into a frown as I realized all the Heinekens were finished. Hesitantly, my had gripped a bottle of Guinness. The top wasn't hard to come off as I was lucky enough to have a bottle opener attached to my house keys. Again, I start to dance as a new song began to play, tipping my head backward to take a gulp of the alcoholic drink.

"Khai, c'mon!" I look over to see a Anna in the midst of stripping off her shirt, along with some other girls I don't quite recognized. Guys and girls surrounded them cheering them on while others ignored their antics and continued dancing.

Anna disposed of both her shorts and her shirt, and soon enough, her and the others were submerged into the icy cool salt water. Normally, I would resent such actions and slowly walk the other way. But I decided after leaving Violet's house that I was tired of being plain Khai Jackson.

She was too scared... Timid. She lived in the what ifs and a world where her boyfriend, best friend, mother and school were the only thing that mattered. I wanted a changed.

Live and let live.

Before I knew it, my drink was now on the contents of the sand along with my boots, leggings and shirt. My hair was no longer in a high ponytail but now out, having my black hair reach my shoulder blades.
I was running, prepared to have the cold water penetrate my skin and have hypothermia slowly come my way. I was just a few feet away from hitting the water when a hand gripped my wrist harshly.

I was whipped around to be met with the eyes of Violet. Concern written all over her face as she spoke to me with a soft voice, "Khai, this isn't you."

I was angry. My eyes screwed shut as the effect of alcohol was now taking a toll on me, but nevertheless, my anger never subsided. I snatch my hand away from her hold, looking her dead in the eyes. "Fuck off," I spat. "This is me, and if you don't like it, then that's your problem."

And with that being said, I left Violet and her shocked expression behind.

A shrill scream escaped my lips as my body finally hit the water. I couldn't stop smiling as I felt my muscles oddly relax as my body became accustomed to the temperature. Again, the music changed and I found myself grinding on girls from Shadow Hills High and the rival school in the water. I was letting loose.
I was living.

-

A few minutes had passed when I finally exited the water. The salt water that had entered my mouth throughout the course of dancing had left me immensely dehydrated.

Again, I found myself at the cooler, shivering as the harsh wind hit my exposed skin. I had finished about two bottles of water when an unfamiliar voice spoke up.

"You got pretty wild out there." The voice belonged to a guy who was not much taller than me. His brown hair was damp and in his face, but not too much to hide his brown eyes. He was built, but not too built and his smile captivated me.

"I'm Adrian," he extended his arm outwards which I gladly accepted.

"Khai."

"I gotta admit," he licked his lips. "It was pretty hot watching you grind on Anna out there."

I chuckled slightly. "I never knew I had it in me."

A gush of wind slapped my body, causing me to shiver again. Adrian must've caught my uncomfortable state as he ushered me to follow him, which I did. We walked and talked. He told me about how Anna is his best friend and how it was her idea for our rival school to crash the party. I ensured him I would personally thank her as the kids of Campion High made the party even better than I expected it to be.

Finally, we reached his car; a black 2012 jeep. He offered me a seat in the driver's section as he dug through his trunk to retrieve a jacket for me.

I shrugged it on, "Thanks."

"No problem," he walked over to the passenger's side, opening the door and taking a seat. For a moment, we just sat in silence. I closed my eyes, blocking out the distant music as I smiled.

I hummed in satisfaction before lifting my eyelids to see him staring at me.

"What?" I laughed.
His eyebrows were furrowed. "You don't seem like that type. Y'kno... To strip and basically call hyperthermia on yourself."

I shrugged my shoulders. "I wasn't."

"What happened?"

"My boyfriend's an asshole." Before he could reply, I corrected myself. "Well, ex- boyfriend."

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

Did I? Absolutely not. I refuse to drag myself back into the darkness after I've seen the light since Harry left. I had fun for the first time. The adrenaline that pumped throughout my veins was a wake up call. I've been missing out on all the fun I deserve. I'm an eighteen who should be going out every night, anticipating my graduation a few months, not moping around in my bedroom. I shouldn't be crying myself to sleep every night as memories of a past relationship consumed my mind. Harry Edward Styles is my first love. And first love doesn't mean best love... And it sure didn't mean last love. So why was I punishing myself for so long?

"Khai?" I turned around to see Adrian staring at me. He looked worried, and God. Was I tired of seeing that expression etched on the faces of everyone that I spoke to. I wasn't glass. I wasn't frail and weak. I wouldn't fall and break into a million pieces just like that.

"No, I don't." And with that, I hopped over to the passenger's side. Legs either side of Adrian's waist. His face no longer held a worried expression but a shocked one as I leaned forward to press my lips to his.
Live and let live.

@Anobrxin
You're very welcome! And Wattpad is a great community. I also, myself, write on there. I say go for it when you're ready. :)

Thank you for your love and kind words. I'm so happy you enjoyed this story despite the very abrupt ending. I do intend on writing again. Maybe on wattpad perhaps to gain a wider audience, maybe it would be here once again. I'm not sure, but I will definitely let you know. All the love to you xx
