Chapter 6

I wake up earlier than normal Saturday morning and take a long shower just to take up time. My mother went shopping and my dad went back to Denver so I'm stuck here for the day alone until Harry comes over tonight.

If he comes over, my subconscious mocks me. I roll my eyes at my negative way of thinking and try to tell myself that he'll come. Harry promised, he doesn't seem like the one to break his promise. Then again, I don't really know him.

I just need to stop overreacting. I'll drive myself crazy if I keep going back and forth and I'm already getting exhausted. I close my eyes and try to relax just as the warm water turns to cold. Crap.

I get out of the shower and take my time changing. I don't want to look too formal but I also don't want to look like a bum. I decide with a sweatshirt and jeans and put my hair into a simple bun. I put on a bit of makeup, not too dark but noticeable. I look in the mirror before walking downstairs.

I walk into the kitchen to fix myself lunch but end up getting turned around when the doorbell rings.

"Anna?" I ask as I see the blonde hair when I open the door.

"Hey," she chirps. "I was wondering if you wanted to go to the mall with me?" she asks and invites herself in. I shut the door behind her and walk into the room beside the foyer.

"Sure," I say and start gathering my stuff. I had planned on working on some homework this weekend but I would much rather spend the day with her.

"Are you going to the party tonight?" Anna asks as we walk into the mall.

"There's a party tonight?"

"Yea, I think Louis is throwing one. Are you going?" She looks at me confused. We walk into the nearest store, Forever 21, and begin moving towards the racks.

"No, I actually have plans tonight." I smile, proud that I have something to do on a Saturday night. Even if it means studying.

"Oh, with who?" she wiggles her eyebrows up and down and I laugh.

"Harry." I reply and smile when her eyes widen.

"Harry? Like a date with him?" she asks frantically.

"No, it's not a date. We're just studying." I tell her and mean it. We're just studying, nothing more.

"Studying, sure." She says sarcastically and I swat her shoulder.

We walk through the store before each buying a few dresses. I didn't want to buy anything but I needed some new dresses to wear to church. We walk through the mall before deciding to stop by the food court and eat.

As I eat a French fry, I think about what she said earlier about the party. Louis is one of Harry's closest friends, of course he would be going to the party.

"Do you think Harry is going to Louis' party?" I ask finally.

"Yea, probably." she shrugs and stirs her Chinese food. I settle back into my chair and fold my arms over my chest. Maybe Harry told me he would meet up before he was invited to the party. I hope that's right.

I send a quick text to Harry asking him if we're still on for tonight before we continue shopping.

When we leave the mall, I have three new dresses, two pairs of jeans, a blouse, and a pair of shoes. I give Anna some money for buying our lunch and thank her as I get home.

"Where have you been?" My mother asks as I walk through the door. She's not mad, just curious.

"I went shopping with one of my friends." I say and start moving towards my room.

"That's great! Maybe you can invite some of your friends over for dinner one night." She suggests and opens the fridge.

"That would be great." I say before walking upstairs.

After everything is put up, I begin working on my homework to pass the time. It's not too much and I finish in under an hour. I look over at the clock beside my bed and see it's 5:30. 30 minutes until Harry comes over.

I look at the text I sent Harry earlier today and see that he hasn't responded yet. His phone might have gone dead or he has no signal wherever he is. I know I just have to trust Harry and hope that he sticks to his promise.

30 minutes later I head downstairs and sit out on the front porch to wait for Harry. I would rather him see me first rather than my mother. I sit on the front step and watch the driveway for Harry's car.

2 hours later the sky has darkened and the temperature has dropped at least 20 degrees. I stand up, stretching my legs, and slowly walk back inside. No sign of Harry. No calls, texts, or any notifications as to where he's at, even though I have a strong idea where he is.

I should have known he wouldn't show up. Anna told me that he would go to the party over coming here with me.

Anna...

I take out my phone and dial Anna's number that she gave me after we finished shopping today.

"Hey, Jess!" She says too enthusiastically when she picks up.

"Hey, are you doing anything tonight?" I ask and begin moving towards my room.

"Nothing, why?" She sounds confused.

"We're going to that party tonight." I say and hear her gasp.
