Chapter 4

"How was your first day of school?" My mother asks as I walk through the door. I drop my bag at the kitchen table and move past her to find something to eat, I'm starving.

"It was fine." I say and grab a box of pasta. There is no way that I'm telling her how rude Harry was to me, she would flip out and call the school immediately.

In ten minutes, I sit down at the table and begin eating. I quickly finish and head upstairs to work on my homework. Everything is finished within an hour, except for French. I've taken French before but not to this extent. I try the best I can but end up getting frustrated and looking the answers up on the computer.

"Jessica! Dinner's ready!" I'm startled by my mother calling me through the door. I finish up with my French before joining her in the kitchen downstairs.

"Your dad's going to be late, he had a late meeting in Denver." she says when she sees my confused expression. I'm used to him being late because of meetings but it would be nice to have him here to discuss my first day.

The dinner is quite delicious and I decide to stay downstairs with my mother for a bit longer just because I have nothing to do. We watch the news and wait patiently for my dad. Finally, my mother gives up and tells me that I might as well go to bed.

After showering and changing into a pair of sweats and an old t-shirt, I climb into my bed and watch a few minutes of TV. I try to focus on the show in front of me but my mind keeps finding its way back to those haunting green eyes that belong to Harry.

I get a late start the next morning and spend almost the entire time running around trying to get ready. I hitch a ride with my mother since it would be easier that way and instantly regret it the moment I get into the car. I use my drives to school to think about the upcoming day, not discuss my plans for the weekend.

About five minutes into the ride, I finally give up on trying to think.

"What time did dad get in last night?" I ask and look out at the houses as we pass by. I never heard him come in, I'm not even sure he came in at all.

"Around midnight. I told him he might as well stayed the night in Denver." She laughs and taps her finger on the steering wheel.

In what seems like forever, we arrive at the school. I thank her for goodbye and quickly hurry up the steps towards the building. I make my way to my class through the dense crowd and have to sit through a lecture about the mixture of different types of chemicals. I'm the first one out of class when the bell rings and I quickly walk across the school to get to my French class. I'm stopped in my tracks when I see Harry sitting in the desk beside mine, I would have thought that he would have moved. I reluctantly walk back to my seat and sit down without looking at him.

"I'm not mad this morning, you don't have to be silent." He says, startling me. I look over at him and raise my eyebrows.

"That's good."

"Look," he says and turns to where he is facing me. "I thought over it and I decided to tutor you." He says uneasily.

"I don't need your help anymore." I lie and face the front.

"Bullshit." He curses. "You couldn't pass this class without me, you said it yourself." He says and I bite my lip. I really wish I hadn't said that.

"If you're going to mock me all morning, I'm leaving." I fold my arms over my chest. I'm not really going to leave, but he doesn't need to know that.

"I'm trying to apologize." He says finally, a bit of aggravation in his voice. I want to smile at his irritation but I decide to accept his apology.

"Are you free this weekend?" I ask and write down my address for the second time, hoping he won't throw this one away.

"Are you asking me on a date?" He teases.

"No!" My cheeks flush and I can't help but smile. "We could meet up for you to tutor me this weekend."

"Yes, I'm free this weekend." He laughs at my uneasiness and nods.

"How about my house at 6:00? Does that work for you?" I ask and hand him the slip of paper.

"Sure." He smiles, his dimples showing. Butterflies form in my stomach as he smiles and I have to look away before I make a stupid move.

The rest of the period Harry is silent and by the end of the day, my opinion of Harry was changed completely.
