Chapter 9

The next morning I stayed in bed until two and did nothing the entire day. My parents left me to go shopping earlier, not even bothering to ask if I wanted to come, probably because of my drowsy state.

I sat down on the couch at five thirty with a tv dinner in one hand and turned on the television.

I quickly eat my dinner and settle back into the couch to wait for my parents to come home. As I was drifting off, my phone buzzed with a message.

From: Harry
I'm really sorry about last night. Can we meet up?

I sighed at the text and closed my eyes. No matter how hard I wanted to ignore him, I couldn't deny that I couldn't pass the class without having him tutor me.

To: Harry
Meet me at the park in five minutes.

I sent the message and hopped off the couch. I was lounging in sweats and a t shirt but I didn't want to go out like this. I hurried upstairs to put on a pair of jeans and threw my hair into a bun.

After leaving my parents a note telling them where I would be, I left the house. The park was only a few blocks away, plus it gave me time to think about what I was going to say.

A minute later I found Harry sitting in a bench near the pond. He looked lonely and a part of my speech crumbled at the sight.

"Hey," I say and sit down beside him, putting as much space between us as possible.

"I didn't think you would come. After what I did to you." He says, his voice small. I wanted to say something sharp back but decided to ignore the lost cause.

"I was thinking we could meet up Tuesday." I say, surprising him and myself.

"Really?" he asks, his green eyes sparkling in the dark.

"Everyone makes mistakes." I say and I feel a sharp pain. Everyone does make mistakes but this one could have been avoided.

"Thanks. I'm really sorry that this happened." he says and gestures between us.

I stand up and begin moving back towards the street. I'm happy that Harry and I worked through this, I couldn't have done it with out him. Regardless of his actions, I know that I should just forget about this and pretend it never happened.

"I'll take you home." He says, noticing I walked, and guides me to his car.

I tell him my address and in two short minutes we stop in front of my house. I linger in the car for a second, not sure what to say, before thanking him and climbing out.

"Where were you?" My mother asks when I walk through the door. I thought I left her a note.

"The park. I needed some fresh air." I say as I shut the door. It's not a whole lie, some of it's true.

"Oh. Well I'm making lasagna. Go wash up and then come back downstairs to help me." She says and turns on the sink to wash dishes.

I walk up stairs and end up taking a shower just to pass the time. I put back on what I had before joining my mother back downstairs. We put the homemade lasagna in the oven and begin making the salad. My small meal from earlier has worn off and my stomach churns the closer it gets to the food being done.

An hour later we sit down at the table and begin to eat. I make up a story about how I worked on some homework today when in reality I did nothing and welcome the praise from my father.

Dinner soon finishes and I'm dismissed upstairs to get to bed. I feel bad about lying to my father so I work on some French homework before crawling into bed.
