Life, Cars and Zayn Malik... Wait What?!

Chapter 9: Well that's... not on the menu

Jamie’s POV Here I am, lying on my bed… Again. Thinking… Again. About Zayn… Again. God I was good at this. At least this time I was thinking more of what we had been doing than what he had said. We had… I don't want to admit it. Okay, I will anyway. We had almost kissed. And I let it almost happen. But I defied it, and turned it into him kissing my cheek. I had kissed his cheek first though. That probably didn’t help. It was a stupid move. A very stupid, un-thought over move. I sighed. Everything was coming together. I knew he liked me. And I know I like him. Yes, I’m going to admit it. I do. But no one will know. I still refuse to date someone from One Direction. I refuse. It won’t happen, because I won’t let it. My feelings don't matter. If I push them away… I’ll get over him. I heard my phone ring. “Hello, this is Jamie.” I said as I put the technology to my ear. “Hey, it’s Ariana. Could you cover my shift today? I really need someone to take it for me.” she explained. I didn’t know we had an Ariana at work. “Is this for the restaurant?” I asked. “Yeah…” she trailed off. Oh god, that means wearing a dress, but I need to keep my mind off of Zayn. “Okay. I’ll take it. When does the shift start?” I asked. “It’s twelve till four.” She answered. “Okay. I’ll be there.” I hung up and got off of the bed. It was half-past-eleven now, so I would need to have food and get changed. I went to the kitchen and grabbed some bread and crunchy peanut butter, making a sandwich. I then went to my room and put the black dress on, and grabbed the white apron. Completely cliché, but that’s the restaurant. I put my black Converse on. “AMELIE! I'M GOING TO WORK!” I shouted. “Why are you going to work?” she asked, seen as she was apparently sitting on the couch which was placed next to me. “Some chick called ‘Ariana’ needed me to cover her shift for her.” I answered. “I didn’t know you worked with an Ariana…” she trailed off. “Neither did I. Anyway, I’ll see you later.” “Yeah, see you then.” She said, not even looking up from her phone screen. I grabbed my keys and left. *** “Hey Jamie, could you take that table over there?” Raina asked me. “Sure thing.” I said. I plastered on a smile. “Hello and welcome to-” I actually looked at their faces. “Oh it’s you guys.” I said in a down tone. Behold the Three Muskedicks. Not Musketeers. Muskedicks. “Hey, that could be taken offensively.” Harry stated, pointing a finger at me. “Yeah it could.” Niall added, also pointing. “Yeah…” Liam said. “Well, where is the fourth and fifth?” I asked. “Louis is with Codie, and Zayn went to take a shit.” Harry answered. “Well not to shit, but to piss.” Niall corrected. “He went to the bathroom.” Liam added. “Okay. Well, since you’re here and I have been assigned your table, what would you like?” I asked. “Well, I know Zayn would want some of you.” I almost slapped Harry’s face, but realised that could get me fired. “Well that’s… not on the menu.” I took a pause for effect. “Feel lucky that slapping you right now could get me fired, later I will get my revenge Styles.” I said, my nose twitching. “What will the revenge be for?” I heard a voice ask from behind. Oh damn, Raina heard. “What? You must of misheard that. I said…” damn I should have thought over this. “She said ‘You’ll have Bolognese Styles?’.” I heard a man’s voice say. “Yep, that’s it.” I agreed straight away. I felt someone standing really close to me and grab my wrist. “Are you sure?” Raina checked. “Yep.” All of us said at the same time. That is definitely not suspicious. “Okay. Hurry up and serve them, they look hungry. You also only have this table now, I moved the other ones you were serving to Krystal’s area.” She explained. Great, just great. I only have to serve these four idiots. “Thanks Raina, that is really going to help my day out.” It was 3:30, and she only decides to send other people out now?! What about when I was serving fifteen tables at the same time huh? I wasn’t even supposed to be working today… “Okay, well I’ll leave you to it.” She responded, finally walking away. I turned to face whoever had just helped me out. “Thank you for covering for me, but since when did ‘Bolognese’ sound like-” I looked at their face. “-sexy.” I said without thinking. Zayn was standing there, looking the best I have ever seen him. God damn it was a good sight. “What?” he asked, obviously not hearing the last word. “Revenge, I said revenge.” I covered for myself, using the best fake normal voice I could. “Are you sure, it didn’t sound like that.” he had a confused look on his face. “Well, now you know how confused Raina was. Sit your ass down and order please.” I instructed, I did stay polite though, because I said my manners. “Now, what would you like, Styles?” I asked. “Uhm, I’ll have the… that one.” He pointed to a word on the menu. Of course I had to read it. “The spaghetti bolognese?” I checked. “Yeah, that one.” I almost face-palmed as I wrote down the order. “And you, Payne?” I asked next. “I’ll have the honey soy chicken with chips.” He answered. I wrote his down. “Horan?” I asked Niall next. “I’ll have the sticky pork ribs with salad and chips.” He answered. “Salad and chips?” I checked. “Yeah.” He answered. “You know you can get every type of salad and pasta and bread around the other side of the wall there, right?” I asked, pointing in the direction of the buffet. There was no response from him, he just jumped out of his seat and walked very quickly around the wall. “Well then, Malik, what would you like?” “He would like you at six tonight.” Harry blurted out. I blushed. “Seriously? I will kill you Styles. Seriously though, what do you want?” I looked at Zayn again. His cheeks were almost as red as mine. “Um, I’ll have the…” he trailed off looking at the menu. “The creamy ravioli.” He told me. “Cool. Now, you can get drinks from the bar over there. Tell them you’re my friends, and you might get a discount.” I told them. I wrote the table number on the piece of paper and left them to it. By the time the food was ready and I served it to the Muskedicks, plus Zayn, my shift was finally over. I stayed behind, getting scolded by Raina because I hadn’t ‘worked to the best of my ability today’. I only sighed and got a coke, talking to Jace who was working at the bar. We were good friends I suppose. We talked for a while, and I finally got up to leave, in need of a coffee and a donut. I took the apron off and got to the door, now in my black dress and Converse. I opened the door and found someone screaming. “Oh yeah, very funny guys!” he shouted. I looked over and recognised the dark hair. “Veronica?” I asked. “What?” he responded, yep it was him. “What are you doing?” I asked. “You see that car leaving right there?” he pointed to a black car driving away. “Yeah…” I trailed off, not really seeing the point behind this. “That would be the other three. Leaving me behind.” He explained. “Oh.” I responded. How would you respond to that? How would he be getting back to Codie’s now? Obviously he has no way to get there, unless… “do you need a ride?” I asked him. “That would be nice.” He answered. “Okay, well, first I’m going to the café that I work at. I need caffeine and a donut. then I’ll be going to my house to get changed out of this horrid dress-” “It’s not horrid. You look really nice in it.” Did he just say that? Well, I’ll just ignore it. “As I was saying, I will get changed out of this horrid dress and then I’ll take you back to Codie’s, okay?” I checked he was okay with it. “Yeah, that’s fine with me.” I started walking towards my convertible buggy. The body was red, but the roof was black. I got in and so did Zayn, now comes the awkward drive. I turned the radio on, and surprise surprise, a One Direction song was playing. “Yeauck.” I switched stations. There was no conversation on the way to the café. And I got out of the car and walked in, and it was damn busy. I don't think I’ve ever seen so many people in here at once, in an entire week. “Jeremy! What is going on here?!” I shouted. “JAMIE!!! IS THAT YOU’RE SWEET VOICE I HEAR?!” I heard his voice respond. “YES!! YES IT IS!!” I responded. “WELL I ACTUALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED!!! BUT I NEED HELP!! PRONTO!!!” I couldn’t see where the voice was coming from, there was that many people. “I think he’s gonna need both of us…” I trailed off. I grabbed Zayn’s arm. “Ever worked in a café before?” I asked. “Uh-” “Yes? Good. You can serve people, and take their money, I’ll help you. I’ll make coffee and stuff, you can get pastries.” I explained, taking him behind the counter. “Okay…” he trailed off. “Jeremy, I’m here, now where’s my kiss?” I said, seeing his dyed white hair which was tinged blue. His grey eyes were wide, probably from the surprise of the amount of people here. He gave me a kiss on the cheek the same I did to him. “Why didn’t you call me?” I asked. “I didn’t have enough time to. I’m here by myself.” He answered. “Oh god.” I stated. He threw a black apron with the café logo on it at me. “You can take dine-in orders to people.” He looked at Zayn. “Who’s that?” I gave a weird look towards Zayn. Should I say it out loud with this many people here? “It doesn’t matter, he can help me back here.” He said. I threw the apron over my dress and looked at the tables that had people sitting without food and drinks, which was practically all of them. “God damn.” I said, getting the first order and taking it to the table. I had done enough of this today. While I was walking back I called Cara (another one of the people who worked here) and told her to get her ass down here. Zayn was working by washing the dishes that Jeremy hadn’t had time for, when Cara got here she helped Jeremy behind the counter. I continued waitressing. It was not meant to be this busy today. *** I grabbed the last plates and cups that were empty. I brought them back to Zayn who had had his hands in water for the last two hours. Closing time was right about now. We put the closed sign on the door, and I sat down for the first time since I walked in here. “Well, that was unexpected.” I said, as they all sat down around me at a table. “Damn straight it was.” Jeremy stated. “Thank you for coming Cara, it was appreciated. A lot.” He added on the end. “No problem.” Then she had a double take with Zayn, being the first time she had actually looked at him. “Wait…” she paused, pointing at him. “You’re Zayn Malik.” She stated the obvious. “Yeah.” Zayn responded. “Okay. Well then Jamie, why is he here?” she asked. Shit, what do I say. “She was going to drop me off at the hotel, but we had a stop here first. Then we got stuck here, so I helped out.” Zayn took over for me. We finished closing up and I left the café finally. I got home, since I was still in my dress, and changed into black skinny jeans and a Nike branded jumper. “Right let’s go.” I jumped into my car again and started it, waiting until Zayn was in with me until I drove off. “This Jeremy guy…” he started. “What about him?” I asked. “Are you, you know…” oh, he thought… “HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!” I laughed like a maniac. “Me and Jeremy?! Together?!” I looked at him, he had a look on his face that was dead set depressed. “Sweetie, Jeremy’s gay. Not as in he’s happy, as in he’s full on ‘guy likes guy’ gay.” I explained. I started laughing again. “You poor child. You really thought we were together didn’t you?” he blushed. “Do you really think I would have almost kissed you if I had a boyfriend?” I asked. “You almost kissed me?” he asked. “What do you think was going on then? When that happened between us?” I asked. “I thought you had turned your head from the start, that you hadn’t even thought about it.” He told me. “I haven’t stopped thinking about it. It crosses my mind all the time. It is right now. I almost did. But… something stopped me, okay? I am single, I swear to god. You had better be f*cken amazing to change that.” I told him. “Oh.” He responded. “Yeah, sorry, but I have standards.” I explained. Well, this was getting really awkward really fast. “Do I fit those standards?” he asked. “Uh…” shit, hesitating. I didn’t respond, instead I ignored it. If I don't answer… “No answer?” shut up shut up. “No.” I stated simply. “Why?” “No comment.” I answered. “Why?” “If you want to keep your dick I would shut up if I were you.” I snapped. “Jesus, keep your shit together.” I stared at the road, ignoring that comment. If he says one more thing… “hello? Are you even going to respond?” “If you wanna f*cken walk, keep doing what you’re doing. If you want to continue this lovely ride, I would shut the f*ck up.” I responded, he should be happy that I did. “Fine.” The rest of the drive was silent, and I practically kicked him out of the car when we got there. The next day passed quickly, especially when I watched the news and found out Codie had sung at a One Direction concert. What was going through her mind? Anyway… it’s the day after that which is interesting…
