Life, Cars and Zayn Malik... Wait What?!

Chapter 5: This doesn't change anything

I pulled Codie to my house, well to the car and then drove her to my house. With a lot of effort I got her to sit still, and she allowed me to do her make-up. I didn’t do foundation, because her skin is so damn flawless, like how is it even possible? Anyway, I then did eyeliner and mascara with some pale purple eye shadow to tie in with her dress. I then grabbed some lip gloss and made her lips shiny.
I then decided to curl her hair. Don't even ask where they came from but I found some little purple and white flowers, and placed them carefully in her hair before spraying them with hairspray so they wouldn’t move. She then went to get changed. And I did my own make-up. Foundation, eyeliner, mascara, blue eye shadow, red lipstick and light blush. From when I actually got her to my house, till when she actually co-operated took two hours. We were supposed to be there already.
At Codie’s own birthday party. Themed with Codie’s long lost formal/prom. Every one of the other girls turned up, ready. I quickly got changed and rushed back out before Codie. I heard my phone go off.
From; Louis the Swag Masta from Doncasta
Where are you?
Oh Jesus. Uh, how do I put this? I tried to put my shoes on while standing, jumping every now and again to gain balance as well as texting back to Louis.
To; Louis the Swag Masta from Doncasta
We’re on our way, give us five. Fashionably late, Codie’s reputation…
I really need to change that contact name.
From; Louis the Swag Masta from Doncasta
Okay, just hurry up, I’m feeling lonely :’(
Oh man, does he have no friends?
To; Louis the Swag Masta from Doncasta
Don’t you have four friends with you? Whatever, be there in three…
I finally got Codie in the car and we sped off. We pulled up to the door of the place in ten minutes. Sorry Louis, didn’t mean to be even later. “Here’s our stop!” I shouted, hoping I was right, while getting out of the car.
“Really? It looks questionable to me.” Codie said.
“Well, I am 99.99999% sure anyway…” I squinted, trying to remember. We walked into the front room and I spoke to the desk lady. I ran back to the group, even in my high heels. “We’re in, let’s go!” all of us jumped around like a bunch of loony’s while Codie gave us a look of pure disappointment. She still thought we were going clubbing. She must think something is up.
Codie grabbed the handle and pulled the door open. We followed her in as she took in the lights and the banner with ‘Happy Birthday Codie’ written on it. Not to mention the multiple streamers, balloons, the heavy beat that was moving the floor and everyone shouting ‘Happy Birthday!’ including me, Amelie, Elysse and Clarisse. I could see her searching the room, and I saw four of the boys, I just couldn’t see Louis.
“Did you four do this?” Codie asked us.
“No, the culprit is-” I looked around that massive room again. “I don’t know where.” I told her the truth. Oh wait, there he is.
“So, people of Adelaide and beyond. How are we tonight?” Louis shouted into a microphone on the stage. Everyone responded with a scream of blurred words. As I looked at all the people, all of the girls were in beautiful dresses and the guys all in tuxes. I think Codie had noticed too. “Good, good. So everyone knows why we’re here?” he screamed again. Another mixed reply came. “Even better. So, first of all I would like to wish the birthday girl, a happy birthday.” Nah, you want to wish her a Merry Christmas.
“Secondly, I would like to thank you all for coming on such short notice. It means a fair bit to me that you would come here because I asked you too.” Get on with it. “Thirdly, I want the birthday girl up here with me, I know she’s here.” I laughed as Codie walked towards the stage. “Happy Birthday Codie!” he said as he creepily put an arm over her shoulder.
“Thanks” Codie said in a ‘I can’t be bothered but I have to say this’ kind of tone.
“Whatever. Anyway, lastly, I want everyone to have a great night, and I hope it brings back some great memories and maybe even make some more. Music maestro!” he shouted as he dragged her offstage.
The song changed from a heavy bass and to a floaty one. I had my partner, Matt. He had fluffy blonde hair and gorgeous blue eyes. God damn. Amelie had Harry, Clarisse had Liam, I had Matt, Elysse had a red-head named Charlie and Codie was paired with Louis. Because the rest of us said so. She doesn’t know that though. I flicked my eyes towards Codie, and she was walking towards Niall. He was eating. Yet again.
“So, how’s life?” I asked Matt.
“Yeah, it’s going good. I suppose.” He answered. “You?”
“Yeah, good.” Why am I even with this guy?
“That’s good.” Well, that was awkward.
“So… watcha been doin lately?” why am I always starting these conversations?
“Nothing much. I’ve got the end of the footy season, that’s about it really.” he said. “What have you been doing?”
“Racing cars, doing random shit. It’s been brilliant.” I answered.
“Oh. Yep, that sounds like fun.” He said sarcastically.
“Well, the racing cars part is.” I stated.
“That’s the part I would think of as ‘not fun’.” He told me.
“What? Have you never thought of what it would be like to race at insane speeds and still have complete control? Have you never thought of what it would be like to pelt down a racetrack and cross that finish line at number one?” I asked him.
“No, not really.” he answered.
“What is wrong with you?” I asked.
“Nothing’s wrong with me.” god damn. This guy was full of shit.
“Bullshit.” I said under my breath,
“What?” he asked me.
“I said ‘bullshit’.” I said while laughing.
“What’s so funny about that?” he got angry.
“Calm your shit mate, it was just a joke.” Now that I focused on it, I could smell alcohol on his breath. He must be mildly drunk. At least.
“LOUIS!” I heard Codie shout from the other side of the massive room. God damn. I tried to see what was going on. Nothing. I couldn’t see anything. I focused back on Matt. Suddenly I wasn’t feeling to great.
“I need to sit down.” I said, feeling pale and sick.
“Whatever, I’m going.” He said.
“That little f*cken ass hole.” I made my way to a table and sat down. I need to go outside, but it was too close to the hooker street of Adelaide, and it was dark. I was not going alone. I repeat, not going alone. Someone please turn up and help me. Oh god, anyone but him.
“Hey Ja-” Zayn took an actual look at my face. “Are you alright?” he asked me.
“Do I f*cken well look f*cken alright to you?” I responded simply.
“No, not really.” he answered.
“I need to go outside, but no one will go with me. Or talk to me in the first place…” I stated. He just gave me a blank stare.
Zayn’s POV
Wow, Jamie looked so pale right now. And why was no one going to take her outside? I could wait for someone else to turn up or… “I’ll take you, if you want.” She looked up at me. Damn did she look good in that dress. She would look better if she wasn’t a sickly pale with a tinge of green. “Come on, you need too.” I put my hand out, and she gladly took it.
I pulled her up. “You don't have too.” She told me.
“Nah, it’s fine. I need a break from in here anyway. Everyone’s too close. Bodies right up against each other. I may be in a tux, but at the moment…”
“It doesn’t mean shit, does it?” she finished for me.
“Nah, it doesn’t.” I agreed. We walked outside and started to walk around the block.
“So, how has your day been?” She asked me.
“Yeah, it’s been good.” I answered. “How about yours?” I re-asked the question.
“Yeah, good. At least until Matt decided that he would be a dick.” She said, biting her lip.
“Hmm, well…” what am I supposed to say in response to that?
“It’s fine, it wasn’t anything more than tonight anyway.” She kicked a pebble, even in her high heels.
“Oh.” I said quietly. There was a small silence, filled with the sound of footsteps. Before her outburst.
“How can I keep choosing them?! The complete idiots and dicks and asses?! How do I still manage to do that? Of all the kinds of men I can choose, it’s always the bad ones. The ones you shouldn't choose. My gut always tells me to stay away, but I always ignore it.” I stayed silent, before she kind of growled. “Grr, I’m so damn stupid!” she shouted.
“You aren’t stupid.” I stated.
“Try telling that to that idiot of a boy back in there.” She said, kicking another rock. She then decides to take her heels off, walking barefoot on the pavement.
“He didn’t realise what he had. There's nothing wrong with you trying to find love.” I said, being oddly inspirational. She half-smiled. Facing me, looking me in the eyes.
“Thanks Zayn.” I stumbled as she said it, but I saved myself. I was not embarrassing myself that bad in front of her. She laughed at my clumsiness. We started walking normally again, and I was breathing out condensation. I saw Jamie shiver out the corner of my eye. My first reaction was to take off my suit’s jacket and put it around her shoulders.
She kind of flinched when I put it on her shoulders, and gave me a weird look. “You’re cold aren’t you?” I asked. She nodded and held the jacket over her shoulders. I decided to not put my arm over her. Knowing I had been friend-zoned was pretty sucky, but I was so prepared to work my way out of it. We walked in silence around the rest of the block. We got close to the door, before I talked.
“You know how you said your gut tells you when not to go out with a guy, but you do anyway?” I asked.
“Yeah.” She answered.
“Do you get that feeling with me?” I asked. She sighed and looked at me.
“Thanks for letting me borrow your jacket.” She ignored the question. “This doesn’t change anything between us, so you know.” I gave her a sad smirk.
“Yeah, figured as much.” I opened the door and held it for her. She handed my jacket back to me.
“You’ll find someone. I just highly doubt it’s me.” she said as she handed it to me.
“Okay.” I gave her a genuine looking smile, too hide my hurt. We walked back into the room and got blinded by lights.
“Oh god damn.” I heard Jamie say next to me.
“What?” I asked.
“I think Elysse is drunk.” She said disappointed, pointing in her direction. It looked like she was stumbling around. “And I think Amelie is too.” She pointed to said person, who looked like she was trying to dance against Harry, but it looked very unco-ordinated.
“I could agree with that.” I stated.
“And I think Codie’s getting there.” She gestured to the blonde who had a half empty Vodka Cruiser in her hand. “She better not stain that damn dress.” Jamie said.
“Well, I think the rest of the boys are drunk too.” All of them looked a little off. Especially Harry. Someone went to go talk to Amelie, but Harry just grabbed her and started making out on the dance floor.
“I could agree with that.” Jamie repeated what I had said before. Okay, I’m getting there. She’s at least talking to me. “I’ll see you later, yeah?” she said.
“Yeah.” I agreed.
“Well, bye then.” She waved as she made her way to the bar.
“Bye.” I said to myself. The party went on and on, I bumped into Jamie a few more times, both of us getting more drunk every time.
