Life, Cars and Zayn Malik... Wait What?!

Chapter 14: Lasagne and Brownies

Zayn’s POV
“Where are you going with the car?!” Liam shouted, obviously hearing the keys dangling from my hand.
“I’m going to see Jamie!” I shouted, smoke leaving my mouth. I had just finished a cigarette, and was on my way to see said person.
“Really?! Can you take me to Clarisse’s place first?!” I heard him respond.
“If you can get your ass down here, than sure!” I responded. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs heavily. Liam was right next to me within the minute. His face screwed up.
“You smell like smokes.” He stated.
“And…” I trailed off.
“Jamie doesn’t like it when people smoke. So for some reason, I doubt she’ll like it when she smells cigarettes on you.” He told me. Shit. I forgot about that.
“Too late now. Come on, let’s go before I have to drive anyone else anywhere.” I said, covering up my worry about Jamie. I walked out to the car, and soon enough I was at Jamie’s house, after dropping off Liam. I heard someone singing from what I am fairly sure is the kitchen here. I stood, leaning on the door frame, with my arms crossed, listening to Jamie sing.
“Life's too short to even care at all oh,
I'm losing my mind losing my mind losing control.
These fishes in the sea they're staring at me oh oh,
Oh oh oh oh,
A wet world aches for a beat of a drum.
Oh.

If I could find a way to see this straight
I'd run away
To some fortune that I, I should have found by now
I'm waiting for this cough syrup to come down, come down

Life's too short to even care at all oh
I'm coming up now coming up now out of the blue
These zombies in the park they're looking for my heart
Oh oh oh oh
A dark world aches for a splash of the sun oh oh

If I could find a way to see this straight
I'd run away
To some fortune that I, I should have found by now

And so I run now to the things they said could
Restore me
Restore life

The way it should be
I'm waiting for this cough syrup to come down

Life's too short to even care at all oh
I'm losing my mind losing my mind losing control

If I could find a way to see this straight
I'd run away
To some fortune that I, I should have found by now

So I run now to the things they said could restore me
Restore life the way it should be
I'm waiting for this cough syrup to come down

One more spoon of cough syrup now
One more spoon of cough syrup now.”
I smiled at her voice. The last time I heard her sing was when we had the riff-off thing about Codie and Louis. Well, whatever that was about. That was a while ago. And she seemed better now than she did then. I coughed, to announce I was here. She spun around, a wooden spoon in her hands, which she was holding like it was a gun.
“Who the fu-” she actually looked at me and realised who it was. “Oh it’s you.” She said before turning back to whatever she was doing. “Hey.” She said facing the other direction.
“Hey.” I responded, walking towards her, to look over her shoulder at what she was doing. “What are you making?” I asked.
“Brownies.” She answered simply. She dipped her finger into the mixture and licked it. “It needs something.” She stated. She turned to face me. “Have some, then tell me what it needs.” She instructed. I did as she said.
“I think it needs…” I trailed off.
“Mint? Choc-mint brownies? Or am I the only one thinking that?” she asked.
“Choc-mint brownies sound good.” I told her. She nodded and got peppermint essence from one of the cupboards. She mixed it in, then tasted it. She nodded.
“Yep. That’s it.” She said before pouring it into a tray and putting it into the oven. “Mmkay, now the lasagne.” She stated, getting a pan out and putting it on the stovetop. She got out the mince and onion.
“Lasagne?” I asked.
“Yep. Lasagne and brownies.” She answered.
“Can I help?” I asked next.
“Of course. You can cut the onions.” She stated, handing me a dangerous looking knife.
“Okay then. How do I cut them?” I asked.
“Fine dice would be nice. Ha, that rhymed.” She told me.
“No, not what do I cut them into.” She looked at me, a confused look on her face. “How do I cut them?” I re-asked.
“Oh my god.” She said. “I’ll show you.” She cut half of the onion. But I didn’t understand. I gave her a confused look. “Oh god. I can’t stand behind you and instruct, so, arms around me. I’ll do it with you.” She put her arms out and I stood behind her. I put my arms under hers, and she grabbed my hands, putting a knife in one. She cut the onions with my hands under hers. But I wasn’t focusing on what she was doing with the onions.

“You smell like smokes.” She said, as she finished making the white sauce. We were making white lasagne, not the tomato stuff. She put the sauce and the meat into the lasagne tray kind of thing, before layering with the lasagne sheets mixed in.
“Yeah, I do.” I agreed with her. She sighed as she grabbed the brownies out and swapped it with the lasagne.
“I don't like it.” She responded.
“Yeah, I know.” I replied. She looked straight at me before she walked into the lounge room. She sat down on the couch and put the TV on, staring at it. “Why don't you like smokes?” I asked. She sighed in response.
“One. They smell bad. Two. They taste bad when people breathe them on me. Three. They’re the reason my Grandfather died.” She told me, her expression unchanging.
“Really?” I asked.
“Yes. He got lung cancer, which was caused by cigarettes.” She stared at me, straight in the eyes. “I didn’t care about if people smoked or not before that. Now, if I know someone that does. I try everything in my power to stop them.” She explained. “I care about your wellbeing, I don't want you to die early because of those damned things.” She told me.
“I’m not going to.” I tried to reassure her.
“That’s what Grandpa said. You never know if it’s going to affect you or not.” Her eyes went to her feet. “That’s why you should give up as soon as you can.” She told me. I sighed, maybe… just maybe I could try… for her.
“To the best of my ability, I will try and quit.” I told her. She looked at me, and her eyes lit up. She came and stood in front of me.
“We’ve been going out for maybe a week, and you would already do that for me?” she asked, a little surprised.
“I’ll try.” I responded. She smiled. She bit her lip, her eyes flitting between my own and my mouth. “What are you scheming?” I asked her. Her smile turned into an evil grin. I’m not sure if I liked the look on her at the moment, since she was so close. She laughed quietly.
“For every time that you think of having a smoke, but don't, if I'm in the vicinity…” she trailed off.
“What?” I asked.
“I’ll give you a kiss.” She smiled again. Since we had gotten together, she was smiling non-stop. She shouldn't have said what she did, because I’ll use it to my advantage now.
“Well… I was thinking of having one right now.” Her eyes sparkled before she quickly touched my lips with hers.
“There you go. There's your payment.” She said, skipping away.
“Hey, do you think you’re going to get away with that?” I asked running after her.
“I don't think, I know!” she shouted, continuing away.
“I don't think so!” I shouted back, catching up to her and grabbing her around the waist. I kissed her neck before I turned her around and started giving her butterfly kisses all over her face.
“Oh my god, stop!” she shouted while laughing.
“No.” I stated before continuing. Her arms and legs were flailing all over the place.
“Please!” she shouted, still laughing.
“Never!” I shouted in response.
“What do you want?!”
“A proper kiss! Not one of those shitty quick ones that mean nothing.” I explained before I continued, this time tickling her instead.
“Okay!” I stopped. “I give in, you can have the kiss.” She told me. She stood up, and leant forward. My eyes closed, anticipating what was going to happen next. But it never came. I opened my eyes again, and she was gone.
Damn she was agile.
Like a ninja.
How did she even do that?
What the hell?
“JAMIE!” I shouted next. I heard a door close from behind me. How did she get behind me? I turned around and figured she had run outside. God dammit. “Jamie!” I shouted again as I went in the direction I’m sure she went.
“What?!” she shouted, laughing. She was standing in the middle of her backyard. The grass was green, the flowers were in bloom, and you couldn’t see the fence because the plants were that overgrown.
“Why did you run?” I asked, loud enough so she would hear.
“Why do you want to kiss me so bad?” she responded, a smile playing on her lips. I felt my lips twist into a smirk.
“Why wouldn’t I? That’s the normal thing to do, right?” I checked with her. She laughed again.
“No, it’s not.” She responded.
“Then how can I get a worthwhile kiss from you?” I asked.
“Catch me.” she answered. I rolled my eyes as she shrugged her shoulders. I took two gigantic steps towards her, and she took two even larger back. This was going to be harder than I had expected.
“You need to at least give me a chance.” I pleaded.
“What do you think I’m doing? If I wasn’t going to give you a chance, I would have kicked you in the nuts instead of giving you a chance to catch me.” she explained. I sighed as I lunged forward and ran towards her. I chased her around for a while, and being my clumsy self, I tripped over my own feet, but she was close enough for me to grab.
I grabbed her arm, trying to keep myself up and she twisted to get me off of her. This was happening in slow motion. She couldn’t shake me off of her, so we ended up on the ground, me on top of her. “You really thought I couldn’t catch you?” I asked, trying to get my breath back. I crawled up her, so my face was over hers, and my legs were around her waist. “Now I’m in prime position.”
She gave me a disapproving look. “You only caught me because you’re a clumsy little shit.” She said, before rolling us, so she was over me. “But I suppose you did.” Her hair was falling like a curtain around our faces. She laughed, moving her hips and making me feel the need to start kissing her. Again and again. And even more.
“Of course I did.” I said, trying to not get carried away. “Was there ever any doubt?”
“Do you want the honest answer?” she asked.
“No.” I managed to breath out. Her lips were parted slightly, she had no idea of what she could do to me without trying. I wonder what she could do if she was…
“I guess you’ll need your payment then.”
“I suppose I do.” I agreed with her. She leant towards me, her eyes closing. Finally, it was going to be the first time we had kissed since before we got together. She had been teasing me, involuntarily, with biting her lip and parting them. I don't really count the one from before, since it wasn’t a proper one.
Her lips weren’t touching mine yet, but I suspected she was close, since I could feel her breath on my face. I couldn’t wait any longer, so I lifted my head and brought our lips together. We moved in sync, before I rolled us over, so I was on top of her again. I didn’t leave her lips, because I was too busy trying to get my tongue in her mouth.
I groaned as she let me in, and I let the feeling wash over me. This was definitely the weirdest way to get a kiss, for now. I had a feeling that there would be weirder later on. She rolled us over, so she was on top again. “That’s enough for now, I would reckon.” She said when she broke away. She pushed off of the ground, and stood up before she walked away.
That ass though…
