Chapter 2

Ashton’s POV

“Let go of me you sons of bitches!” I shouted and writhed around, trying to escape from the grasp of the people holding me. “I have a family!” I yelled.

“Listen ‘ere you little fucker,” said one of the men pulling me back to his mouth. “We have families too, that’s why we’re doing this, we need to provide for them.”

“My, my wife, she’s pregnant with our first child.” I attempted. They kicked open a door and threw me into a cell.

“Well how nice, maybe we’ll get even more money from her then. So what was it, shotgun wedding, you her baby daddy?” He said taunting me.

“What do you mean?” I growled.

“Look at you. You’re barely old enough to drink yet you’re married and have a kid already? Did your parents force you?”

“No, I loved her, we wanted to get married, we wanted kids.” I said trying to keep calm. The burly man in front of me laughed.

“Yeah right, you’ll change your mind as soon as the little sucker pops out.” He turned on his heel and walked out, slamming the heavy metal door behind him. I bent down on my knees and clasped my hands tight and shut my eyes.

“God, I don’t normally do this, I don’t go to church, but if you can get me out of here safely and back to my wife, if you can keep her safe and keep our baby safe, I will go to church every chance there is. I will pray before every meal and every night. I will devote myself to you like I am supposed to. Amen”

I lied down on my back and attempted to get some rest, trying to think happy thoughts of me and my wife, Elizabeth.

Elizabeth’s POV

“Knock knock,” a voice sang at my door. A strange blonde haired person leaned against the doorway with an iv drip in his grasp. “Hi, I’m Luke. Greeting committee.” He said with a chuckle.

“Elizabeth.” I said curtly.

“Am I allowed to come in, or is this,” he said gesturing to the room, “sacred land?” I laughed lightly.

“Sure.” I said with a slight nod. He sat down on the edge of my bed.”What are you here for?” I asked him. “Only if it’s not personal.”

“Oh nothing too big. They found about eight small tumors in my abdomen so I’m getting surgery to take them out, I’ve been here for three months and I’ve only gotten 2 removed.”

“Can’t they just take them all out in one surgery?” I questioned him.

“You’d think. But the majority of them are resting in and organ, like smack dab in the middle so I’m on a transplant list and I need to wait for the organ to have the surgery.” He responded. After a few seconds of silence I opened my mouth.

“You’re not going to ask me why I’m here?” I asked him. I thought maybe he was nice, but now not so much.

“Oh I didn’t need too. You were in a coma for the past three days. In a car accident. Your baby was just delivered at 13 weeks and you have some bones issues in that they are broken.” I looked at him with a deadpan expression.

“What?”

“I have a lot of time on my hands, waiting around for nothing is not as hard as you’d think.” I nodded along slowly as he bobbed his head up and down with enthusiasm.

“Well it was nice to meet you but that was weird. I’ll talk to you later.” I said closing my eyes. It wasn’t until several minutes later that I heard his footsteps retreat out the door.

~~Six Weeks Later~~

Elizabeth’s POV

“Luke!!!!! Stop it.” I was laughing so hard I almost tumbled out of my bed. Ever since that first day when I met Luke, he had been coming by my room every single day, I’d say we are actually quite close now.

The nurse walked in and took one glance at us in the bed together and just went about her business checking my vitals. “Mr. Hemmings. I have good news. We seem to have found a whole liver for you, you’ll be having the surgery in two days, 2 more tumors gone.” She said with a slight smile.

“You’ll be halfway there Luke!” I said beaming.

“And Ms. Irwin, you baby is doing wonderfully, have you decided on a name yet?” I shook my head quickly. They keep saying I’m married and until I know something definite about that, it just doesn’t seem right to name our child without whoever the father may be. “Okay well if you think of one don’t hesitate to tell us.” She nodded and walked out.

“Luke what’s wrong?” I asked him, he was staring out the window of my hospital room.

“It’s just so weird to think that two more of my tumor babies will be gone. Jim and Larry, those are the names of the tumors in my liver.” I laughed.

“You are so stupid. But I’m happy for you. I’ll be here when you wake up from your surgery. I always will be.” I said before pulling him to my side on the bed and snuggling up to watch a movie. He tentatively placed his arm around me and pulled me closer.
