Forgotten

Chapter 1

Elizabeth's POV

"Ms. Irwin? Ma'am?" A voice said above me. I attempted to open my eyes, but the lights were too bright, reflecting off of the white walls. I tried to open my mouth, but that didn't work either.

"Are you awake? How do you feel?" The voice said again. I must be making some sort of noise because she continued, “Do you remember anything? Anything at all?” I took a sharp breath in. I had to say something.

“No.” I breathed out.

“Can you tell me your name?” She pressed. Surely I must be able to say my name, I must know my name. It’s, my name is, my name,

“No.” I told her, how could I not know my own name. I forced my eyes open and sat up as best I could.

“Your name is Elizabeth Irwin, we don’t know very much about you though. Can you tell us anything?” I shook my head.

“What do you know about me?”

“At the time you were found there was no identification on you except for your wedding ring which said Elizabeth A. Irwin, well we think it is a wedding ring, it looks like one, but now a days everyone wears all types of rings. Once we knew your name we were able to find your birth records. You are 23 years old. Did you know that you have a very rare blood type, not common in most people. Ms. Irwin, you are also approximately 13 weeks pregnant. But this is about all we know.” My head was spinning. None of this makes sense.

“Where are we?” She had the same accent as I did, so I can’t be in a completely foreign place, but Australia is a big place.

“We are currently in the Royal Hobart Hospital. We are in Tasmania.” This was confusing. Did I live in Tasmania? Was I visiting? I told the nurse I needed a minute to let it sink in, and she said she would come back in five to check my vitals.
About four minutes in I felt a strange sensation in my head, bubbles, foaming, it felt like my bead were being filled with carbonation. Suddenly it went black. When I woke up, there was a blue curtain in my face and an anaesthesiologist above me. “Elizabeth, I am going to need you to count backwards from ten for me.”

“10...9...8...7…” He began to lower the mask over my nose and mouth. “6...5...4……..3……….2…………..1.” I drifted away from reality. Seconds later I was awake again in the same hospital, but it was just people, no doctors. They were all standing there like the were lost. I could see some of them visibly changing. “Excuse me, what is this?” I asked a woman whose arse was slowly getting larger.

“You’re in the middle, we’re all here, coma patients, surgical patients, we mimic what is happening to us, I am currently getting a butt implant. What about you?”

“I, I don’t know.” In an instant my body felt as though my stomach were attached to a suction cup, that weird pull then release that happens when you pull it off of something.

“Honey, I’d assume from the way your stomach just shrunk, you just had a c-section.” She chuckled. She slowly began to fade away and it was black, then I was back in that room with the white walls and bright lights. No one was there with me. I closed my eyes to relax and soon found myself drifting off to the peaceful hum of the monitor.

I hit his arm. “Babe! Don’t even joke about stuff like that! I love you and only you.” I giggled.

“I’m not joking, I’m serious, did you sleep with him?” He said, doing an awful job of hiding his smile.

“You are absolutely disgusting, that’s my brother.” I said looking at him.

“Your STEP-brother.” He said laughing, emphasizing the step. “It’s not incest if you aren’t technically related.” He laughed harder.

“I hate you.” I glared with a smile out the windshield. Seconds later his hand intertwined with mine. I glanced over at him to see him watching me. I turned my eyes back out the window as we drove down the lonely road.

I woke up to the same voice of the nurse. That dream had to have held some information, but I couldn’t even place a face to the man I was speaking with.
“What happened?” I asked the nurse.

“The baby was pushing up against your lungs, causing your heart and brain not to get enough oxygen, which caused a loss in not only oxygen, but bloodflow to your brain, causing a serious issue which could have possibly have killed you. We had to deliver the baby premature at 13 weeks and, well it’s a boy, and he is currently in the NICU. All I can say is get some rest, and be careful it was a difficult surgery.
