Concert Love.
Chapter 1
Kaitlyn POV
My phone sat on the table silent and unmoving; mocking my silent urging for it to ring. I sat back in my chair and blew my bangs slightly out of my face. My eyes scanned my bedroom walls fulls of travel posters and souvenirs that either I had picked up over the years or Liam had brought home. Scrapbooks sat in their shelves and bins overflowed with pictures and scraps of paper I just hadn’t gotten around to documenting yet. My phone let out a burst of sound as the tones of don’t forget where you belong echoed through my room. Liam had set it as the ringtone on my phone before he left not only to remind me of him but as a reminder to me when I was daydreaming of being anywhere but Liam and I’s flat in London.
I reached out and quickly answered my phone silencing the sound of my brother’s voice.
“Hello?” I said quickly.
“Has he called yet?” Spencer’s over-excited voice blared through the speaker.
“Not yet.” I said in a disappointed tone.
“He will.” Sarah encouraged.
I rolled my eyes before remembering they couldn’t see me over the phone.
“He always does at some point or another.” I admitted.
“See.” Spencer’s face mocking tone echoed through my room from where I had my phone on speaker.
From her tone I could picture in my head the expression on her face. She was always on me when I got pessimistic. Not that I was complaining my best friends helped keep me grounded. They honestly kept me sane during the long months where my brother was gone, I had the flat to myself and my head was in the clouds. We had met by chance several years earlier when my brother had flown me to one of his shows. The girls had obtained backstage passes for the show but had gotten lost trying to find the bathroom. With my incessant cockiness I had tried to help them get unlost. 3 hours of wandering twisting hallways and several wrong turns later we were rather fast friends.
“I can’t answer my phone if you guys are on it.” I teased.
“Oh right.” They echoed each other it just dawning on them.
“Let us know after he calls promise?” Sarah asked.
“Definately.” I said perkily my mood having lifted somewhat.
My screen flashed as they ended the call. The silence again echoed through my room. My hands fidgeted slightly in my lap picking at the loose threads on the hem of my shirt. I wasn’t normally this antsy but Liam had told me he had a surprise for me last time we talked. Part of me was wondering if the surprise was something he had briefly mention as a belated 18th birthday present. I wandered over to my nightstand and studied the pictures on top of it. They dated from Liam and I when we were young to a picture of Spencer, Sarah and I to a picture of the lads and I at the last concert I attended. My phone beeped again startling me out of my reverie.
I answered the facetime call and was rewarded with the sight of my other best friend.
“Hey.” I said smiling sitting against the headrest of my bed tucking my legs under me.
“How’s my favorite Payne sibling.” The irish accent echoed through my room.
“Shhhhh don’t let Liam hear you say that but I’m doing pretty well. How’s Dublin?” Niall got a wistful look on his face that often made an appearance when he talked about Ireland.
“It’s good to be home.” He said quietly.
“I bet.” I said smiling. “Everyone behaving?” Niall got that mischievous glint in his eye that made his blue eyes sparkle.
“If you mean Louis he hasn’t driven my mother completely insane yet. I can call him over here if you want.” I could feel my eyes get wide at his statement.
“Do you want someone to end up dying?” I asked.
“You can’t exactly kill someone through a phone Kit-Kat.”
I stuck my tongue out at Niall.
“You know what I mean.” I retorted narrowing my eyes.
Niall and Liam both had problems coming to terms with Louis and I’s relationship. They didn’t understand why we just couldn’t get along. Our conversations often ended in arguments and we had taken to just avoiding each other. It had started when Liam had brought the boy back to Wolverhampton while they were on the X-factor. I had been 14 at the time and going through that awkward dorky stage. My hair had been streaked with a myriad of colors and I had been going through my rebel stage. Louis’ first comment to me had been that I looked like unicorn throw-up. He hadn’t been so amused when when I told him he looked like a Justin Bieber wannabe. Our relationship had just gone downhill after that.
“Do I hear my favorite sister?” I heard my brother’s voice boom as he slid into view. He tried jostling his Niall out of camera view.
“I thought Ruth was your favorite sister cause you can’t even bother to call me.” I joked.
Liam put his hand over his heart like I’d shot him.
“I was about to do that when I heard Niall screaming for Louis. I knew that meant he was talking to you.”
“Trying to cause a scene maybe.” I said annoyed.
“Come on we know we’re your favorite band members.” They said with creepy smiles.
“For that Harry’s my new favorite.” I said with a smile back.
Both of their mouths rounded into O shapes as they acted dissed.
I crinkled my nose in response and gave a slight chuckle.
I saw Liam lean towards Niall and whisper in his ear. The had a slight debate talking silent enough I couldn’t hear them. I watched confused as Niall got up and left Liam with his phone. “So now were down to business.” Liam said folding his arms across his chest. “What business?” I asked still confused.
“My surprise?” Liam asked in a questioning tone like I had forgotten. “Oh.” I said propping my phone up with a pillow and laying on my stomach with my arms under my chin.
“Spill.” I prompted.
Liam took a deep breath not entirely sure where to begin. I could feel the suspense building up in me the longer I sat in silence.
“Well I didn’t tell you earlier because I didn’t want to get your hopes up. But I finally got Simon to agree and ummmm………” Liam trailed off trying to form the words in his brain. I raised my eyebrows and gestured for him to continue. “Well if you’re okay with the long hours and all the travel…..who am I kidding you love to travel….”
Liam’s temporary inability to form sentences was starting to get frustrating.
“Simon said you could come on tour with us.” He finally blurted out. “If you want to that is?” He said with a slight smile.
Deciding to mess with him I pursed my lips. “I don’t know.” I said hesitantly.
“Please.” Liam whined making a prayer motion at me with his hands.
I felt a wide smile escape from my lips.
“I’m teasing you silly of course I’ll come.”
A wide grin spread across Liam’s face.
“One condition.” I said holding up a finger.
“Name it.” Liam retorted.
“Spencer and Sarah come too. I need girl company and Lou doesn’t count.”
I saw a brief look of terror pass over Liam’s features.
“What’s wrong afraid to be in close vicinity with Sarah for several months?” I teased.
Liam hadn’t expressly told me he liked my best friend but I knew him well enough to tell something was going on. I knew his nervous ticks and when he was around Sarah they were all on show. I had been trying for months to get a confession out of him but so far he had been obstinate.
“Think you’ll survive being in close quarters with Louis for several months?” Liam retorted still not admitting his feelings. I am pretty sure a look of disgust crossed my features.
“I’ll try to be……..civil.” I ascented.
Liam started laughing rather hard and an annoyed look crossed my face. I hadn’t thought it was that funny.
“Soo………..” I left the word hanging in the air.
“Fine they can come.” Liam reluctantly agreed.
“Yay!” I cheered clapping my hands together like I was 4.
“Now go away I want to talk to Niall.” I said sticking my tongue out.
Liam shook his head and called Niall back into the room.
Niall’s face replaced Liam’s in my field of view.
“Did he tell you?” Niall asked excitedly.
“You knew?” I asked.
Niall nodded his head a smile creeping on his face.
“But you can’t keep a secret to save your life.” I exclaimed.
“I can keep a secret better than you’d think.” He said slyly.
“Really?."
"So are you coming?"
I nodded my head.
"Sick." Niall said with a smile.
"So did you talk to that girl you’ve been talking about.”
Niall’s expression went sullen.
“I don’t think she likes me.”
I gave him a sympathetic smile. Niall had come to me several months ago about some girl he liked. He had yet to tell me her name but he was having a hard time with it.
“I’m sure she’ll come around you’re a great guy.”
Niall shrugged his shoulders.
A loud crash sounded through the speakers. Niall’s head turned towards his door.
“I gotta go I’ll see you when we get back from Ireland ‘k?”
I nodded my head.
“Bye Ni.”
“Bye Kit-Kat.”
The screen went black and I flopped onto my bed letting out a squeal. My mind reeled on all the places I would get to go. I stared at my phone and my mind turned towards Spencer and Sarah. I picked up my phone and dialed the girls.
“So what did he say?”
“I’ll tell you tomorrow. It’s too important to say over the phone I’ll meet you guys tomorrow at 9 at the Starlight cafe ‘k?” The girls agreed but their tones were rather confused. I hung up my phone and beat my bed and kicked my feet in excitement.
I’d always wanted to see the world and now I had my chance.
