Dancing with a Star

01. Practice Meetings

I stood there in the ballroom and waited patiently for my partner to arrive. I didn’t know who I was meeting, but I was excited. It’s not every day you get to meet a celebrity, much less be requested by one.
Hearing the door click, I spun around to see not only my favorite Irish celebrity, but my favorite One Direction member. Niall Horan.
Niall Horan can’t dance boy-band style, much less ballroom dancing. I put a smile, as I was excited that I get to work with him, and put my hand out for him to shake.
“I’m a fan, Niall. My name is Evelina,” I said. He smiled.
“Well, my names Niall, as ya already know,” he said, his Irish accent leaking through. I smiled. “I can’t help but notice that you have a strange accent. It isn’t American, British, or Irish, all of which I’m very familiar with,” he said. I laughed and shook my head.
“I’m originally from Kenmare, Ireland. I moved from there to a small town in Tennessee to Los Angeles when I got this job. So there is a little Irish in there, I've just lost some of it,” I said. His eyes went wide.
“Kenmare is so pretty,” he said. I smiled.
“I miss it,” I said.
“So, what are we doing this week?” he asked, getting down to business. I smiled.
“This week we are doing the Cha Cha to Dance With Me Tonight by Olly Murs,” I said.
“That song is amazing and so is Olly!” he said.
“Well, I love the song, but I don’t know about Olly,” I said.
“Wait, the cha cha? Isn’t that really hard?” he asked. I shook my head.
“The cha cha dance has little rules, meaning I have a lot of reign. That’s bad for you. My cha chas are usually extremely difficult. I know of the reputation One Direction has made for themselves in the dancing department, but I plan to change that for one of you,” I said. He looked a little skeptical.
“How long have you been a professional dancer?” he asked. I smiled.
“Since I was two, so about twenty years. I took a few months off when I gave birth to my son,” I said. His eyes widened.
“You look like that when you’ve gone through labor? Your husband is a lucky man,” he said, shaking his head. I flinched and memories of getting the call filled my head.
I slowly lifted my hand, playing with my former wedding and engagement ring around my neck.
“I’m not married,” I said softly. He looked at me and then at the floor.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude. I just assumed,” he said. I smiled.
“It’s- um- it's okay. He died in a car accident the day I found out I was pregnant. A drunk driver ran a red light and smashed straight into his door, killing him on impact. Common, I know, but that's my life story.” I said. Niall then hugged me, something I wasn’t expecting.
“Is being a single mom hard?” he asked. I shrugged.
“It can be. Sometimes I have to pick up another shift if the bills won’t be paid. The hardest part though is when you’re tucking him in or when he gets in the car from daycare and asks you why he doesn’t have a dad like the rest of his friends,” I explained. He looked around the ballroom.
“You should bring him sometime. I’m sure he would love to meet all of these celebrities,” Niall said, winking at me. I laughed.
“Well, he's met all of the dancers and you're right he loves meeting all of the celebrities. Don’t tell him when he comes that I told you, but he is a huge One Direction fan. He is mainly a big Niall fan. I don’t know. Like mother like son,” I said, winking at him. Niall laughed.
“So you are a fan,” he said. I nodded.
“I just don’t freak out like most do. I mean, yes, you are a celebrity and yes, this is a really awesome experience for me, but I just know you’re a human. I’ll get to hopefully know you more of a person as the weeks go on, right?” I asked. He smiled and nodded. I clapped my hands together, making him jump. “Now, for this dance, I’m starting off, kind of. I really will be introducing you, like Olly does to introduce himself. But, due to the fact that we won’t be doing the track and someone will be singing this song, I’m gonna say your name,” I said. He nodded.
I then taught him what he had to do. I would start off walking around and saying the words, looking at the crowd, while he stood in the far corner of the stage. When I called his name, he would run up behind me and spin me around, pretending to be singing to me. When Olly said look around there’s a whole lotta pretty ladies, Niall examined the crowd. Niall would basically be flirting with me the whole time. After we learned a little bit and got it down, Niall looked at me.
“Am I supposed to be flirting with you with my dancing?” he asked. I laughed and looked at the floor to hide my blood red cheeks.
“Yeah, I really hope you aren’t weirded out by it. I would’ve done it with any other person. I see this song as he’s trying to win the girl over so I put the choreography as being flirty and I hope cute,” I said. He smiled.
“I like it,” he said. I smiled.
“Thanks. Do you think your fans will hate on me?” I asked. He scratched the back of his head.
“Unfortunately, some might. Some believe every word the press spouts, causing drama in our fandom. I mean, Demi and I did go on a couple of dates and I did want to keep going, but she didn’t want to. I respected her decision and we’re still really good friends. Harry and Taylor? They really did date. Do they really hate each other? They didn’t at first until Taylor pulled that shit at the Grammys and VMAs,” he said. I rolled my eyes.
“I seriously wonder if she was drunk. When I saw her Grammy performance, I started yelling at my TV!” I said. He laughed.
“What exactly was said?” he asked.
“Seriously? Y’all broke up a month ago! It’s time to move on!” I said. He laughed. We then practiced until my stomach growled, telling me I needed food.
“Do you wanna come get food with me?” he asked.
“I’m still pretty clueless about the good places in LA as well,” I said.
“Well, we’ll be clueless together,” he said. I smiled and then looked at the note on the door and groaned.
“Well, looks like we’re stuck here,” I said. He looked at me.
“Why’s that?” he asked.
“Well, the press is following you around and they don’t want to reveal who your partner is so we can’t go anywhere except to the hotel and back,” I said.
“How long until the show comes on?” he asked.
“It comes on next Monday,” I said. He groaned. He then looked at his phone and brightened up. He quickly put it up to his ear.
“Hello?” he answered. “Uh huh. No, we’re not practicing. We were about to get food. Bring food! See ya soon!” he then hung up. I really wanted to see who that was, but it really wasn’t my business. He then started the dance routine that he knows, making me laugh.
“Is that your happy dance now?” I asked. He stopped and looked at me, as if just remembering I was here.
“I guess so. It’s the only good dance I can do,” he said. I shook my head.
“You can twerk pretty awesome,” I said.
“Did someone say twerk?” a British voice yelled, walking into the ballroom, backwards, shaking his butt. When I turned around, I saw every single person of One Direction staring at me with their mouths wide open. I smiled.
“Better close your mouths boys, you might catch flies,” I said, clicking my tongue. Harry and Liam shook their heads to snap out of it, seeing as they had girlfriends. Louis just shook his head.
“I don’t care for an ass like yours,” he said. I put a hand over my wide mouth.
“Louis!” Liam yelled.
“What? I was complimenting her,” he said. I laughed.
“It’s okay. I mean, that boy doesn't have any room to talk with an ass like that,” I said.
Instead of responding, Louis wiggled his butt my way, making everyone start laughing.
“So, Niall, while we’re waiting. You and I can go to wardrobe,” I said, smiling. He groaned.
“Nothing ridiculous, please?” he asked. I looked at him.
“I happen to have an awesome style, thank you very much,” I said. He nodded.
I decided on a light blue knee length dress that looked low-cut but actually covered everything. It had a silver strap around my collar and my waist. I picked silver sparkly heels that I had to go with it. For Niall, I had a white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows with a grey vest and dress pants with black dress shoes.
As we walked back in the dancing studio, the boys were still there. “What did ya bring for food?” Niall asked. I rolled my eyes. Typical boys.
“Chinese,” Harry said with a mouthful of food. I perked up at the mention of Chinese. I didn’t know if they got me any but I really wanted some.
“Eveli, come eat,” Niall said, plopping down on the floor. I smiled at the nickname.
“Thanks, Niall!” I said, sitting next to him.
That dinner was filled with laughter and smiles. It was amazing and I was happy that I didn’t have to stress about putting food on the table tonight.

Definitely! Denny's is definitely better! I like the nachos at Dennys. :) Waffle House just isn't good to me. My family loves it, but it makes me sick.
