Dancing with a Star

Walking in to the zoo, we were welcomed by a zoo employee. I’m sure not many people were working, just the necessary. Wesley walked up to Niall and somehow wormed his way back onto Niall’s shoulders.
“So, Wesley, what do you want to see first?”
“The monkeys!”
Louis looked at Wesley, shocked.
“Why do you want to go see them first?”
“Because Momma calls me her little monkey butt.”
I giggled.
We walked over to the monkeys and Wesley was in awe and then his face turned into confusion.
“Momma, I don’t look like that monkey’s butt.”
We all started laughing at that.
“No, baby, you don’t look like that monkey’s butt.”
“Then why do you call me that?”
“I don’t know, kid. I don’t know.”
Niall smiled and winked at me, making me smile.
Wesley wanted down after about the third exhibit because we came up on the petting part of the zoo and of course he wanted to pet everything that we could.
Niall had my hand and Wesley’s. Louis was holding Freddie and pointing at everything, telling him all of the animals. Connor and Rachel were off in their own little world, petting animals.
Niall put his available arm around my waist, pulling me closer. I looked at him, smiling.
He pecked my lips quickly and then looked at Wesley, seeing him still petting the animals and the animals actually loving him.
We were about halfway through seeing all of the animals when Louis grunted and held Freddie away from him a little bit. I looked at him, seeing poop all over his shirt.
“Just fantastic,” Louis grunted.
“He pooped!”
“Took the medicine long enough.”
“How is this a normal conversation?” Niall asked.
“Please tell me you have extra clothes,” I said, ignoring Niall’s question.
It wasn't that I was just ignoring it, there was no way to explain it until he had a baby himself.
“With me being in the public eye as I am? I have four pairs of extra clothes.”
“I can go change him while you change yourself, if you would like,” I offered.
“No. It’s fine. I’ll change myself after I change him.”
I smiled and we waited on them patiently, until Wesley’s eyes got wide.
“Momma, I have to go potty.”
I grabbed his hand and we ran to the bathroom.
After four years of raising someone, a mother knows the I’m about to pee myself if I don’t get to a bathroom in the next minute look. Thankfully, we made it.
We got out as soon as Louis walked out with a clean Freddie.
Then, Freddie was in a really good mood. He was smiling and babbling on.
Louis was so sweet with him. He would blow on his tummy, making him giggle. Louis was talking to him and playing with him.
It honestly made me want to experience that all over again.
I looked over at Wesley and smiled.
He’s all you need, Evelina.
I shook the thoughts and realized I needed a puppy because my baby fever was getting bad, especially if this one was going to be in my life.
We went and saw the rest of the animals, until Wesley started complaining about how he was tired and I then realized that it had gotten pretty late, like 8 o’clock late.
We all walked out of the zoo and Louis asked if I could help him get Freddie in his seat. I, of course, obliged knowing he was probably still trying to get the hang of it.
“I know plenty how to get him in his seat, I just wanted to talk to you.”
“Yeah? What about?”
“You like him, maybe even love him. I’m not sure right now, but I just want to make sure you aren’t going to hurt him.”
“You, being a father that is dating, should know this better than the rest of them. I would have not let him into my son’s life if I was not serious about this.”
“Niall said he met your son at practice.”
“Yes, he did. At that time, we were just dance partners. We weren’t even really friends then. We were literally just dance partners. Somehow, Niall wormed his way into my heart and became more.”
“You don’t do this all the time do you?”
“I haven’t dated in five years.”
Louis nodded, thankfully not asking why.
Once Louis got Freddie strapped in, I walked back over to see Wesley already strapped in and the car running, Niall in the driver’s seat.
I got in the passenger seat and looked back at Wesley, seeing him already asleep.
I turned back around and grabbed Niall’s hand, us resting it on my lap. I plugged up my phone, knowing it only had kid-friendly music.
We listened to it softly as we drove back home, knowing it would be just us three because Connor and Rach were going back to his place and Louis was taking Freddie to Briana.
“How about we watch a movie when we get home?”
I honestly liked the sound of that.
Home.
Who knows? Maybe this will last, maybe this won’t. You can never tell the future until it no longer is.
I can honestly say though that I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Hopefully it will be filled with happiness and maybe even love.
What tears at me is that single part of me that says it won’t be. It says it will be filled with heartache and tears.
Which side will win?
That’s just the thing though.
Will both win?
