Ally's Outfit
I took a deep breath as I sat on my bed. I was going to miss this place so much. This place has been my home since before I can remember. And now I was being uprooted. I stared at the tattoo on my hand. It was supposed to be a reminder to protect the people that I cared about. The responsibility I had as the oldest. And now I couldn't do that. We were all being separated.

Ally must've seen my grim expression because she laid her head on my lap and smiled up at me. I smiled back at her and wrinkled my nose. She copied my expression and I laughed at her.

"You okay?" She asked me. I sighed and ruffled her hair.

"I'm just gonna miss you gals." I said. More than anything, I hoped that my roommates would find good adoptive parents.

There were a lot of bad people in this world who would do anything for money, even adopt a child they didn't care for. I didn't want any of the girls to face that. Especially the younger ones and Isabella. I knew that she was only a little bit younger than me but she's just about as innocent as a child, although if I ever told her that she's deny it beyond relief. She's never seen the cruel world as it really was. I'd hate to see her lose the light in her eyes.

"Melody!" Ms.Cindy called me and I snapped out of the haze that I was in. "Your new family is here." She said with a grin.

I sighed and Ally got off my lap. I ruffled her hair one more time before standing. I grabbed my things as I realized that this was the moment a younger version of me would've killed for. I used to dream about getting adopted and carried into the sunset by a loving family. By the time I was ten that dream was squashed out of me. I loved this foster home.

Ms.Cindy stopped me before I walked into the waiting room.

"Melody, please turn up the charm. I know you loved it here but this is exciting. You get to finally have a family." She smiled. I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, five months before I turn eighteen." I scoffed. "I'm practically an adult already. Why the hell am I getting adopted? Can't I just stay?" I whined. Ms.Cindy simply laughed.

"No you cannot. Trust me, I'm sure you'll be fine without me for five months." She joked. Normally I would've laughed but today felt way too personal a time to.

"Whatever, he's not my new dad." I grumbled. Ms.Cindy shot me a pointed look.

"Attitude, missy. I don't want to get a phone call about you breaking your new dad's leg or something." She said in all seriousness.

"No promises." I said sourly. I hugged the woman who had become like a mother to me and continued to the waiting room. As I opened the door I was astonished by the man who had adopted me. He was young and not with a male partner.

So not only was he not gay, he was adopting a seventeen year old girl that was probably around the same age as him. Seemed pretty sketchy to me. I hoped that Ms.Cindy did a thorough background check on him.

"Hey, you're Melody, right?" He asked with a smile as he stood. I narrowed my eyes at him as I internally sized him up.

"Yeah." I said simply before grabbing my iPod from my bag and putting one earphone in.

"I'm Calum Hood." He said. So he was from that Australian boy band that Taylor was obsessed with.

"Okay." I said, not feeling very starstruck. If it was Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys then maybe I'd turn up the charm but I really couldn't be bothered with a band that was meant to lure thirteen year olds to buy their memorabilia.

"Y'know it's considered rude to have earphones in while talking to someone." He said.

"Is it now?" I said sarcastically. I really couldn't care less. I pressed play and The Neighborhood's Uh No streamed in.

"Okay. Well why don't we get going? We've gotta get you settled in." He said as he scratched his neck awkwardly.

"Whatever." I said. Let's see how long this one lasts.
