Washed Up Pop Stars

It’s a hard, long trek to the boat. It is washed up on shore, against the rocks. I start to make my way over to it but stop short.

There is someone outside of the boat. It was a boy, around my age. He was wondering around, probably not knowing what was going on, and yelling something.

As I get closer, I make out a few of the words. He seems to be yelling names.

I run over and tap his shoulder.

He yells and turns to me.“Luke? Ashton? Michael? Louis? Liam? Harry? Zayn? Niall?” he yells into my face.

I shake my head and push him down to sit. It’s safer on the ground, he can’t get knocked over by the wind, which is at least 50 mph and hard to walk against.

I drop my backpack next to him and grab out one of my knives. I run to the boat and climb onto the rocks next to it. The boat is still being pushed against the rocks, being smashed and cracked, being rocked back and forth. I jump onto the deck and roll to stop my ankles for getting the full blow.

I find two boys trying to drag another out of a room. The boy being dragged had only one foot but the other two seemed fine.

“This way,” I yell over the wind. The boys jump and stare at me.“Come on,” I yell. “Are there more?” When they nod I yell, “I’ll be back.”

I climb over the edge and drop to the sand. I take off running again. I grab the hand of the boy in the sand. I pull him up and along behind me.

We reach the cave and I push him inside. He trips and lands in a heap inside. The girls all jump and look up at us.

“I need anyone who can help now. Some need to stay so that they can take care of these people. I need people who can walk and climb. Now,” I yell. I run back out into the storm.

I run past the three boys making their way to the trees. I know the girls are back there somewhere. They will lead the boys to the cave.

I jump onto the boat and run through the door, careful of the slippery floor. I see the room is filling up with water. There are two boys on beds, one is coughing a lot and the other is just not moving. I run over to them and help the coughing one sit up. Anna and Brooke come in and help the one not moving stand. They get him out the door fairly easily. I pull the coughing one up and pull him to the door by myself.

I see the girls helping more of the boys off the boat and back to the cave. I hand off the coughing one to Mac and Kay. I turn around and inspect the entire area to make sure there is no one else in here. I grab a few blankets, soaked but useful once they dry. Anything else in here will either have to wait or it won’t be of use anyway.

I jump onto the beach and run after the other girls and the boys. I make it to the cave and climb in.

I survey the cave. There are nine boys. Most of them seem okay, cold and soaked but warming by the fire.

I lean over the first one and inspect him. He seems fine.

I inspect the one next to him and he’s fine too.

The one next to him is a little pale but fine.

The next one has a broken arm but he seems fine otherwise and the arm is wrapped like how I wrapped Leah’s arm.

I see that the next one only has one foot. I will have to work on his and Liv’s at the same time because I have to check the girls’ injuries soon too. But he looks fine for now.

The next one is the one from the beach. He is staring blankly at the wall. Not much I can do right now…especially if the water and wind didn’t snap him out of it.

The next two are fine, a little disorientated, but fine.

And the last one is the coughing one. He is sitting by the fire with a blank wrapped around his shoulders.

“Get them food, there is still some tiger, and water,” I instruct the girls. “Our clothes should be dry so dry off as best you can and put them on. Use the extra sweaters because these guys need the blankets. And you should all get food too. I also need to check and rewrap injuries. Oh we need to get their wet clothes off, just down to underwear.”

The girls begin to help the boys strip. I see a lot of red faces but who am I to judge? They hang up the boys’ clothes in place of our clothes.

“I’m fine,” one of the guys says. He tries to give the blanket back to Anna, who clearly doesn’t know what to do.

None of the girls do. They all have a sort of glazed look, except Lucy.

I take a good look at the guys then. I suddenly feel very exposed in only my underwear and undershirt.

One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer sit in front of me.

What happened?

I take the blanket from Anna’s hand and she scurries off to put her clothes on. I drape it over the boy, Ashton’s, shoulders. He tries to push it off but I hold it in place.

“Listen,” I spit out in a low voice. The girls would not appreciate me talking like this to their crushes. “You want to survive, you keep the blanket and do everything I say. You want to die then go outside where I don’t have to look at you.”

He stares at me with his mouth open. I push his jaw closed with my finger, smile at him, and stand up to walk away.

I move onto the coughing boy, which I see is Niall. I crouch down in front of him. His eyes follow my movements but he can’t stay focused for long.

I help him out of his shoes and socks first, hanging the socks and putting the shoes near the fire. I then help him get his shirt off, hoping that my cheeks don’t turn bright red. I help him pull off his pants and I hang both the shirt and pants up.

“I think you need to sleep it off,” I say. I help him lie on his side and cover him with another blanket. I give him some water but he refuses the food. I am about to say the same thing I did to Ashton, but I realize he probably wouldn’t be able to keep it down.

He is burning up. I have two options. I could take the blankets off and hope he cools down. Or I could try to break the fever by putting more blankets on. I don’t want to do anything too drastic so I settle on keeping the two blankets on and putting a wet cloth on his forehead.

“Thank you,” he rasps. I nod and tuck the blankets under his chin. His eyes start to droop and I stand to walk away.

I see that the girls have put on their clothes and are sitting around the fire, roasting their tiger.

“I think it’s time for you to take a break,” Tori says. I turn to see her offering a stick with a slab of meat on it. I take it, bite into it, and shake my head.

“I need to figure out more food, get more water, check everyone’s injur-“

“You can do all of that later…or we can do some of it,” she says.

“No it’s fine,” I start.

“Go sleep now or I will have to force you to sleep,” she says menacingly.

“Fine but wake me in an hour or two,” I say. I hand her the stick and stalk to the corner.

I lie down and I’m out like a light.
