Chapter 14

Codi's POV
Tuesday

When I awake, a smile instantly appears on my face when I remember last night. I have no idea what today will bring, but I am excited for my breakfast “date” with Liam. I look over at the clock, we aren't meeting until 7:30, its only 6:15. Why wouldn't I wake up early everyday of vacation. Maybe today will be a nap day. Until I realize it's Maggie's birthday. That's not going to happen. Our family is crazy about birthday. And I mean crazy. Not so much with presents, but always saying, “Happy Birthday, balloons in your room, banners all over the house, balloons and/or flowers sent to school, constant text messages all day. Mom and dad just always wanted to make sure you felt special.

When I was 16, I got a text from my mom every hour I was at school, at the end of the day I got flowers, and when I got to my car in the school parking lot, it was covered in writing, paper, mom went nuts. They always made sure you felt special. Maggie's might be let of the hook a little bit today as far as decorations are concerned but we are still in Aruba, that's a pretty big birthday present in itself.

I took a shower last night so my hair dried while I was sleeping, it looked good enough, wavy ish. I wash my face, throw some cover up on, bit of eye shadow and eyeliner, and mascara, my eyelashes are oddly blonde so when I wear eyeliner and no mascara, I look like I have nothing there. I throw some teal colored shorts on and a white tank top, grab my card key, slip on my favorite brown sandals, my book, and off I go.

I'm here early, as usual. It's only 7. And as per usual, not a lot of people here. Some elderly folks I've seen a few times, I say hi and smile as I find a small table and settle in. I begin to read my book and soon get lost in the words. Only looking up when someone kicks my foot.

“Hey nerd.” I hear. I know it's Liam.

“Nerd? One of us has to be book smart.” I reply with just a hint of sarcasm.

“Hey! Hurt my heart. I'm smart.” He responds trying to look hurt.

“Oh my goodness, I'm just kidding. I'll get you a band aid for your heart later.” I reply with a chuckle.

He pulls me up get food with him, but not before pulling me in for a hug and a kiss. Kiss that leaves my lips tingling just a little bit. They have an omelet station today, I quickly make my over to order a tomato, cheese, green pepper, red pepper, and onion omelet. I grab a glass of water and another glass of pineapple pear juice and head back to the table. Liam is still waiting for his omelet when I sit down, I just can't wait, I dig into it.

“Hungry?” Liam asks as he puts his plate and cup down.

“Well, I'm starving! Its been like more than 12 hours since I last ate, a girl can only go so long without food.” I explain.

Liam laughs and starts eating.

“What did you get?” I ask.

“Well obviously, eggs.” He says as he takes a bite as he points to his plate.

“Duh.”

“And cheese, tomatoes, ham, peppers, bacon, and umm potatoes.” He explains.

“Goodness, quite the omelet.” I say with my eyebrows raised. “So I hear you, my dad, and your dad are going deep sea fishing today?

“Yeah, dad told me last night. Apparently they had it planned since Sunday night. I'd rather spend time with you though.”

“I would too, but since its Maggie's birthday we're having a girls day. Heading over to the hotel spa, getting our nails, toes, massages, mom went all out for us. Your mom and sister said they were joining in last night so apparently it's boys against girls. You ever been deep sea fishing?” I ask finishing up my omelet.

“No, actually I haven't. I'm not much of a fisher. In Wolverhampton were a little land locked. You been?” He tries to explain to me.

“I have been deep sea fishing before actually! My grandparents live in Rio, we try to go every few years, we're set to go next year actually. But my grandparents, my aunt and her husband and my cousins all live down there still. We went to Rio when I was 16 and my grandpa took us out, it was so much fun. You'll enjoy it, as long as you don't get sea sick again!” I say trying to make a joke.

“I don't get you Codi.” Liam mutters.

“What do you mean you don't get me?” I'm utterly confused one minute we're talking about fishing now something else?

“Well, you like history, read, in my opinion, boring books, you like fishing, you're beautiful, and not falling over my every word and annoying the crap out of me just because I'm part of One Direction.” He tries to explain.

“And your point?” I laugh. “I don't need to fall all over you, you're just a guy. Obviously I like you, but I want to get to know Liam Payne, not Liam whose in One Direction.”

“Well I like it, and I appreciate someone who sees past my fame.”

“Thanks I guess?” This conversation just got weird. “Let's just focus on how awesome I am, and not worry about anything else.” I giggle.

We finish up our breakfast and put our plates, cups, and flat wear away. Making our way to the pool, they have a standing water aerobics class in the pool at 8:30, people of all ages in the water working out. I see some new people I haven’t seen yet, a family swimming in the deep end playing basketball, we make our way to the beach. It's still fairly early as Liam sits down on a lounge chair and pats his leg for me to join. I sit between his legs and lean back against him as he wraps his arms around me and we look out towards the water.

Some people are fishing. Others have snorkel masks on and are trying to use them, even though the water is pretty clear without one.

“So Codi, what happens when you leave?” Liam breaks the silence.

A question I've been dreading.

“I get on a plane." I reply with a smile. "I don't know Liam, what happens? You have a plan?” I ask hopeful he actually does.

“Not really. But you leave in two days and I just don't know what we're going to do.” He sounds extremely concerned. “I know we said that we would just let things work itself out but I don't want to wait till the last minute to figure it all out, I want to know now.”

“I don't know what to tell you Liam. I really like you, but geographically were so far apart, and I know you have a busy schedule, as do I. I just don't want to get my hopes up and then get hurt and I don't want to hurt you either.” I reply, hoping it explains to him how I feel.

“And I don't want to hurt you, it's honestly the last thing I'd ever want to do. I just don't want us to leave here with false expectations of each other.” What is he saying?

“So what are you trying to tell me? Please explain.” Please put this in better terms so I understand.

“I'm saying, we play this out, do what we want and then do our best when we leave. Not saying we will be together in a few months, but I want you in my life Codi. If I can't have you as a girlfriend, I will always want you as a friend. Especially a friend whose as good of a kisser as you are.”

I laugh at that last part. “I agree. If things don't work out between us geographically, I always want you as a friend Liam. I'll support you any way I can and be there for you whenever you need me to, as long as you do the same for me.”

“I'll always be there for you.” Liam explains, I really do believe him.

“Promise?” I ask, just to make sure.

“Forever and always, I promise.”

“Liam, lets go!” I hear my dad yelling from the sidewalk, giant fishing pole in hand and Geoff a few steps behind him.

I jump off the chair and grab Liam's hand to pull him up.

“Looks like that's your cue to leave! Have fun, don't fall in, and don't puke everywhere.” I say trying to be hopeful for him.

“HA. HA. Thanks, I guess?” He flashes a smile at me and walks towards our dads. “Don't miss me too much! See you at dinner!” He yells to me.

---------------------

Later that day

---------------------

After a full day at the spa, Maggie, mom, and I make our way back to our hotel rooms in our cheap pedicure flip flops. It's getting close to dinner time and we're expecting the guys back at any time. Hopefully they caught something, I've always enjoy my dads fishing stories. I change in to my dark green floral patterned dress with of course, my brown sandals. I have to do laundry soon. I never pack enough clothes for vacation, and I know this place has an on-site laundry room, I'll have to get my stuff and do a load of clothes tomorrow morning.

Maggie chose some crazy leopard print blue, green, yellow, and purple shorts with a fitted purple shirt and her brown sandals. We decide to both do our hair in french braids. Mom got her hair styled at the spa but Maggie and I didn't feel the need.

Spa day with Liam's mom and sisters was a blast. I got the third degree from everyone about Liam and I, of course our moms were overjoyed about us being “together” even though we wernt together. Nicole and Ruth were both excited as well (seemed to be) but they both admitted I needed to be cautious because they didn't want their brother to break my heart. I assured them we were just seeing how it goes and I didn't know where we would end up even in two weeks, because I have no idea.

My mom, Maggie, and I are all dressed and ready for dinner but they guys are still not back yet so we make our way to the beach to watch the sunset over the water, it's later then we had thought. Thankfully they serve dinner until 8, the show had already started. Just looked like a tropical music group or something along those lines.

Mom had given us full permission to have fun tonight, meaning we could drink. She's not an idiot, even though were not old enough to drink in the States, she knows we do it, and since were old enough in Aruba, and it's Maggie's birthday, we're drinking tonight. In fact, we've already started, us three got strawberry daiquiris from the Tiki Bar. They taste amazing here because their fruit is in season and they don't use artificial flavoring like they do in the US.

We make our way over to the dinner buffet, sitting with Karen, Ruth, and Nicole, who they themselves have started drinking. When were almost done with dinner we hear a loud crew of men coming through, all sunburnt to a crisp, Geoff, Dad, and Liam. All laughing and chit-chatting, they are going to be in so much pain tomorrow.

Liam takes a spot next to me after grabbing dinner, he has a huge smile on his face.
“So how was today?” I ask as I put my fork down.

“It was so much fun, our guide was amazing, I caught a huge fish, almost fell in twice, and we all forgot to put sunscreen on, as to why we all look like tomatoes.” He starts laughing. “How was yours?”

“It was great, I had so much fun with your family and mine. All got our nails and toes painted, a fantastic massage.” Nothing extremely exciting on my part, but I was extremely relaxed.

“They seem to really like you. You have that effect on a lot of people. Your dad is hilarious by the way. He had my dad and I in stitches all day. He's great at impersonating people.”

“He is! I think that's why so many of my friends like him and he's a great superintendent. I swear everyone likes him.” I smile as I look to him talking to Maggie, making her laugh.

I go to clear my plate but as soon as I stand up I hear clapping, I look around and from the kitchen is a large group of people clapping and starting to sing, “Happy Birthday to you.” I quickly sit down and look at Maggie. She's beaming. They're holding a cake. This is perfect, mom must have set this up. They set the cake down in front of Maggie and we all chime in to finish singing.

“Make a wish Maggie!” My mom yells, even though she's sitting right next to her at the table.

You can see Maggie thinking hard and then gathers up all her breath to blow out all 19 candles on her cake. We all erupt in cheers, clapping, and laughter. I know her and I are feeling a little buzzed, we've had about 3 daiquiris a piece. It's hard to say no, they're so good! Dad stands up to cut the cake apart and passes out pieces.

After dinner and cake, we make our way to the show that's already in progress. They've started up an audience part with teams and are currently doing a scavenger hunt. It's quite funny to see adults of all ages running around trying to find things or ask people for things. You can tell my mom really wanted to join in but we were too late. She was really getting into everything, yelling at people to run here and there and just laughing.

Maggie and I kept looking at each other and laughing at mom, in an endearing way of course. I had a few more slushies and decided to back off so my sister could have fun and I'd take care of her. The show ends and our parents decide to make their way back to their hotel rooms, I seriously think they're not over drinking that day we went snorkeling.

After a few more drinks on my sister's part, she is getting quite sloppy with her words as well walking around, she was all over the place. I thought it was hilarious, I've seen my sister like this a few times but Ruth, Nicola, and Liam hadn't. I don't think they thought it was as funny as I did.

"We should get her to bed." Liam speaks up.

We've moved to the beach, splashing around in the water, all of our feet are sandy.

“I agree, plus I'm quite tired myself.” Nicola says.

“Me too.” Ruth agrees.

“All right, I guess we can head back.” I say but I'm not quite agreeing.

Liam and myself help guide Maggie back to our room, Ruth and Nicola continue on to their room, leaving us three to fend for ourselves with a drunk lady.

“I love you guys.” Maggie says as she laughs. Oh man, here comes drunk Maggie speech, it's usually hilarious, but sometimes she lets some things slip I don't think she means to.

“You two are just so cute together. Please get married and have babies, I want nieces and nephews.” She says again.

“Oh Maggie, getting ahead of yourself there sis.” I try to stop making her talk.

“Oh I know what I'm saying. You two, you two should be together forever.” She's starting to slur her words as I dig through her purse to find the room key. She's getting quite heavy for me to hoist up on my shoulders, and I start slipping. Liam seeing me struggle picks her up bridal style to carry into the room.

“See Codi, he's so nice. Just fall in love already. I miss Michael.” Jesus, she never shuts up.

Liam is laughing. “It's not funny Liam. You and my sister, together forever!” She throws her arms in the air as she says forever, catching Liam a little off balance.

He puts her in bed after I pulled the covers away. I took off her shoes and try my best to brush off the sand as I cover her up.

“Happy Birthday Maggie.” I say as I give her a kiss on the forehead, she really is my best friend.

“Thanks Codi, I love you. Marry Liam. Liam, marry my sister.” She continues to say as she has her eyes closed and her breathing slows, she's officially passed out.

I turn to Liam and smile. “Thank you for helping me. I don't think I could have gotten her up here without you.”

“You're welcome, you ready to call it a night?” He asks.

“Not quite, but I'm not going to hang out by myself.” I say with a chuckle.

“You want to go back to the beach? I'm not ready to go to sleep either.” He states.

“Ok, just let me grab a jacket, it's getting a little chilly.” I grab my brown leather jacket as we make our way back to the beach.

“So your sister is hilarious when she's drunk.” He says as he trusts his hands in his front pockets and looks towards me.

“Oh I know, she's so funny. You should have seen Michael's face the first time she got drunk, she admitted she loved him and she wanted to have his babies after only like 3 weeks of dating.” I couldn't stop laughing. “Thankfully he secretly felt the same way so it didn't scare him off. She was so embarrassed the next day that I don't think she's had a drink with him since.”

We sit down on the plastic chairs and put our feet in the ocean. It's quite warm still thankfully. We sit for a moment just looking at the water and listening to the waves crash and looking at the stars.

“So.” Liam starts. I look at him waiting. “We should probably exchange phone numbers and skype info right?” He says with a smile I can see in the dark.

“I can't believe we haven't already!” I state. But on this trip I haven't been glued to my phone like I usually am. “What are you doing tomorrow?” I ask.

“I don't know, I don't know what the plan is from my parents. You guys have a plan?” He asks.

“Well after Maggie nurses her hangover, they're having some free scuba diving lessons in the pool that I wanted to check out, and I think we're just going to hang out on the beach all day. And I have to wash clothes in the morning.”

“Laundry? You are going to do laundry on holiday?” He asks extremely confused.

“Well yes, Liam. Us regular people have to do laundry. And I didn't pack enough under ware, I never do.”

“Go without.” He states simply as he shrugs his shoulders.

“I can't go without underware! I'm not like that.”

“Just a suggestion” He says with a smirk. “Breakfast tomorrow again? I've grown quite fond of our breakfast dates.”

“Yes to breakfast, and I have too. It's going to stink having breakfast without you. I like the conversation.” I say truthfully.

“I know, me too.”

Liam leans into me and whispers, “I'll miss this as well.” and slowly brings his lips towards mine. Liam Payne and I are making out in the ocean. How movie scene is this. He runs his hands up my back and stops at my neck, cupping the back of my head and pulling me in for more. I feel his tongue on my lips as I part them ever so slightly as his tongue makes a full appearance.

We make our way towards a lounge chair, thankfully we're the only ones on the beach in the dark. I fall not so gracefully on the chair as I burst into laughter. Our movie seen is over. But Liam's lips find mine again after he's joined me on the chair, not quite built for two but the furthest thing on my mind as Liam's hands begin to wonder down and cup my butt bringing my hips closer to his as I let out a soft moan into his mouth and our legs tangle together.

Suddenly we are stopped by the sound of people talking. We try to hid but bust out laughing. Feeling like teenagers caught making out in their bedrooms. I flip to the other side so my back is faced to his front, he drapes his arm around me, pulls me as close to him as possible and kisses the back of my neck. I slowly drift off to sleep in Liam's arms in a plastic lounge chair on the beach in Aruba.

@Louis girl

I'm glad you liked it! I probably could have kept going but I didn't want a story that just dragged on and on!

@Emmy2320
I knew you probably wouldn't like the ending, but there is hope in the last section! I'm not exactly opposed to a sequel, I just don't have any idea where I would go with it as of right now. :) I'm working on a new one right now and I'll let everyone know on here when I post it!

I really enjoyed this story even if I am a little sad that they didn't get together! You are an amazing writer and I love that this wasn't a typical story. A sequel would be wonderful but I understand if you don't want to write one! I look forward to reading more of your stories in the future! :)
