Besides the first chapter and everything, which I should have made this chapter before that one, it is important to really think about your story; brain storm it.

If you do not think about your story long enough, and write one on the whim of an idea, it will usually and most of the time crash and burn. let it sit and fizzle in that pretty little head of yours, write some ideas down for it, write a few chapters, and go back and read it. If it looks good and interesting to you then continue, but don't continue if it is confusing, because it will save you and your fans a lot of hard work in the long run, when you run out of ideas for your story and just quit it.

Think of how you would start the beginning, is it catchy enough to bring people in?
Then think of the huge climax in the story that changes everything and progress's it the end of the story, will it keep readers interested enough to finish your story?
Finally, think of the ending, how would you like it to end, should it end with a cliffhanger to a sequel or end the story in one final way?

Think of the characters in the story.
Who is you main characters?
Who are your minor characters? (Unimportant characters)
Who are your supporting characters? (Characters that develop your main characters)
Do you have too much characters that it will confuse your readers?
Do you have too little that it will disinterest your readers?

You have to think of all these little things, it will help you in the long run and keep you on track, it won't have you switching your story around in weird ways that it confuses your readers and yourself.
