Back for You
• Chapter 9 •
-Aly’s POV-
I sighed, flopping down into one of the booths. Today had been so busy I have to thank god for break time. I took a sip from my tea before pulling my phone out from my jean pocket.
Nothing new, not surprising.
I leaned back in my seat and rub my temples, relishing the first bit of quiet time I’ve received today.
“Are you okay?” A voice I automatically recognised asked and I snapped my head in his direction.
“I’m just exhausted.” I told him as he took the seat across from me. “That’s what happens when you’re a parent.” My eyes widened as I realised what I had just said and a pained expression spread on Ashton’s face. “Sorry.”
“No it’s okay. I was hoping we could talk about some things. When does your shift end?” I glanced at the clock and calculated how long I had left.
“Forty-five minutes or so, I won’t be too long so feel free to wait around grab a drink if you want. Or we can just meet up later.”
“I’ll just grab a coffee thanks.”
The rest of my shift went relatively fast and I was soon out the door, following Ashton to wherever he was taking me. He opened the car door for me like he used to and I slid into his snazzy car. I wish I could afford one of these.
“Where are we going?” I asked curiously about ten minutes into the drive.
“Some place I found a few weeks ago. I think you’ll like it. It reminded me of you.”
About twenty minutes later we had pulled up on a suburban street. We joined up on the pathway and his hand brushed mine like he used to do before he would grab it. I really need to stop thinking about the past, he left me and his had Rihannon now. He obviously doesn’t want me like that anymore.
We walked onto a green space and through some trees before we arrived at an abandoned pathway that led onto a stream, much like a place we used to visit at home.
“How the hell did you find this place?” I asked him in shock as we both moved to sit on the concrete.
“I was mad and needed some air and I just somehow ended up here. I’m not really sure how it happened but I’m glad I found it. I like it here, it’s like home.”
“Yeah, it’s quite refreshing. How is everything? The boys and Rihannon?”
He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. “The boys are fine, they’re a bit pissed at me but nothing I can’t deal with. Ri, she just overeats to everything so I’m not really speaking with her at the moment. We’ll probably make up soon, or at least we’ll be made to. Management is very controlling sometimes.” I frowned at him. That must be really annoying for him and the other boys, good for Rihannon bitch though. Why should I care?“Are you okay?” I snapped out of my thoughts and was greeted with Ashton’s worried face.
“Yeah, yeah, sorry, I’m just a bit distracted.” He nodded understandingly as he stripped his feet of his shoes and socks and pulled his jeans up before he dipped his feet in the water. I followed his suit and shivered as my feet hit the cold water. “So what did you want to talk about?” I asked him as I brushed a stray hair out of my face.
He stared impassively out over the water before he turned to face me. “Us, I want to talk about us.”
