-Ashton’s POV-

I pulled my t-shirt back over my head sending a smile in Rihannah’s direction.

“I’ll deal with Luke, don’t worry about him or me. Just say here until he leaves.”

“Ok baby. Oh your phones ringing,” she said, passing me my phone from the bedside table.

“Thanks Ri,” I said pecking her on the head and answering the phone.

“It’s Rihannah not Ri, you know I hate pet names.” I rolled my eyes leaving the room and grumbling a ‘hello’ into the phone.

“Ashton, why the hell haven’t you answered your phone!” Uh, management, always a pain in my arse.

“I’m with Rihannah,” I said as though it was obvious and I heard a frustrated sigh echo through the speaker.

“We’ve scheduled a meeting for twenty minutes to talk about the upcoming tours so you better be here. Calum and Michael are on their way and I can’t get through to Luke so you better start trying. You’ve already pissed me off.” Max, part of our team, grumbled in an annoyed tone just as the doorbell rang.

“He’s at my door now, I’ll bring him with me.” And I hang up. “Going out for a meeting babe, I’ll be back when I can.” I called out to Rihannah.

“Oh, can I go shopping then?” I let out a sigh. “I’ll spend under a thousand.” That wasn’t true but with Luke going crazy with the doorbell I told her I would leave my card on the kitchen bench before grabbing my coat and opening the door to an angry looking Luke. Oh the joys.

“How dare-”

“We have a meeting, let’s go.” I said cutting him off and dragging him to my car. “I’ll drive,” I told him and he rolled his eyes at me.

“We are still going to have a conversation, I am beyond pissed at you. The other boys are coming as well. After this stupid meeting do not leave, for your own sake.”

“Yeah whatever, what’s up your arse?”

“Don’t talk to me, you’re driving. Don’t want to distract you and cause your own death, liar.”

Alrighty…

“Whatever.” I crossed my arms over my chest and directed my attention to the window. There was obviously some underlying problem that he had, and that thought scared something deep inside of me.

Luke drives for a bit more before parking and meeting everyone in the usual spot, a plain, high rise office.
Entering the building Luke didn’t bother holding the door open unlike normal. The Luke I know is nowhere to be found. It made me really wonder what had gotten into him.

He huffs in annoyance as I ask him to hold the elevator for me and I kind of wished I hadn’t caught up, the awkward silence was getting unbearable, especially after that car trip.

As he steps out of the elevator I grab his arm to hold him back. “What is your deal today? Why are you being so pissy?”

“Don’t ask me those questions, you are the one in the wrong here.” He sassed back and I was too shocked to respond before he walked away.

Okay then…

I followed him into the other room where Michael and Calum are already waiting, both of them sharing a look with Luke but they seem to not know much about whatever his problem was.

Max snaps at me to sit down in the stuffy office and I oblige willing, still feeling slightly out of it. He took a sip from his cup of coffee and shuffled through his files before speaking.

“Shall we begin boys?” he asks and the responses aren’t as cheery as usual, especially on Luke’s part, which was much grumpier.

What the hell is with him today?

“So the ‘No Place Like Home Tour’ is in a couple of months and we will soon be needing to rehearse so someone will send you all the information for that and the…” Max rambles on about that and some music shoots and publicity. To be honest, my mind was elsewhere. Something was seriously off and trying to focus my attention on the work and effort that goes into the job I love.

What the hell would my life have been if I wasn’t sitting here now. Damn, I remember that day too well. Aly…
‘Oh so you remember, congratulations. I’m impressed you can remember the day you left the love of your life and your child’.My conscience loves to remind me of my past mistakes. It hasn’t shut up about it for the past three years.

I do always wonder how Aly is these days, how life turned out for her and our supposed child. No, no, it doesn’t even matter, she’s probably moved on like I have with Ri.
Liar.

I really hate that voice.

“Ash mate, did you hear me?” Cal asks, nudging my shoulder.

It takes me a moment to realise that the meeting is over. Luke whispers something to Michael before him and Max leaves the room.

Suddenly it’s only Michael, Calum and I. Luke had left, damn it, I need to talk to him about his little attitude problem.

I jumped up to run out of the room, telling the two I would talk to them later. By the time I reached the car park Luke was getting into one of managements car with a driver. He hasn’t seen me and for some reason I planned to keep it that way. I jumped into my car and followed him at a distance.

Sometime later the car pulled up in a lower class neighbourhood, and the weird feeling in my stomach was growing stronger. He entered one of the flat buildings and I sat in my car for a moment, weighing up my options. After a few minutes my curiosity got the better of me and I took a leap, getting out of the car and entering the same building as him just as he disappeared into a flat.

After climbing flights of stairs I was standing in front of the door he had entered, again contemplating whether or not to invade Luke’s privacy but I just had to know what the problem was, I couldn’t let this continue to eat at me and it hasn’t even been that long.

I raise my hand and knock on the door, hearing Luke call out that he would get it. The door swung open to reveal Luke with a young toddler in his arms and I was starting to feel really concerned.

“Luke… what is this?” I asked gesturing to his surroundings just as he said ‘what are you doing here.”

“Luke who is it?” A voice I never thought I would hear again asked as her head popped around the corner. My voice caught in my throat as our eyes locked.
“A-Ash? Ashton? What are you doing here? What’s he doing here Luke?”

“Is this…?” I trailed of, gesturing to the girl in Luke’s arms and she nodded.

“Her name is Mia, not that you deserve to know.” Fuck, she was right. I looked between her and Luke wondering how long he had known she was living here, how long he has known about my secret. My daughter was in my best mate’s arms in my ex-girlfriends flat and here I am caught in the middle of it all.

What the hell was happening to my life? This wasn’t part of the plan. Oh fuck, I’m completely stuffed.
