-Aly's POV-

(Aged 19, 2014 April 14th)

~ 3 years later ~

Cries awoke me early in the morning.

Our daughter turned two in January and with all her developing, she was always so energetic when wanting to start the day. Sometimes I wished that her father was around, he would have been such a help. I couldn't think about that anymore, I had moved on.

He didn't want her.

He didn't want me.

I dragged myself out of my single bed, approaching the small cot I had managed to purchase for Mia, it wasn't much but it was all that I could manage.

Mum and dad basically disowned me when they found out, I couldn't even stand to live in Australia anymore. My disappointment my life was riding high and I just couldn't handle it. The thought of America crossed my mind but Ash didn't want me, so London seemed like the right place for me.

“Baby, mumma’s here, it’s ok. Shhh.” I tried to calm my crying daughter. Her first words came a few months back, the syllables of ‘dada’ broke my heart. I had to be strong for her though, when her father couldn’t be.

I was working shifts at a small café, it wasn’t much but it kept us above. I couldn’t be more thankful that one of my closest friends was in childcare and could offer me support there, life would have been so much harder without her.

Mia was finally calming down. I quickly prepared her for her day. Cece would be here soon to take her to childcare.

Being a mother was hard, especially being a single mother, but it kind of felt like a calling for me, that I just fit right into the role. I was pretty used to it now anyway, my normal routine was easy to follow and as usual, I heard Cece’s knock on my door.

I quickly greeted her before passing my daughter of to her before going to get ready myself.

The café was only about a block away. It was very convenient for someone like me, no car and all. Petrol was too much and I liked being able to walk, it was the only exercise I was able to get except for the few chances I had to take Mia to the park.

I greeted my boss as I entered, he wasn't all that kind but at least he had the heart to give me this job.

“On time is late, early is on time Aly, how many times do you need me to repeat that?”

“Sorry Sam.” He sighed but let it slip as normal. He didn't know what it was like to be a single mother and he was used to it by now. I went out back and slipped my usual apron over my simple black outfit.

“What am I doing today?”

Can you work the till for the morning?” I nodded and took my position behind the counter.

By lunch time I was serving tables. Our trade was moving fairly quickly for once so I was always on my toes.

“I’ll grab this one,” I told my colleague Sarah as I gestured over to a booth were some people had just sat down.

“Thanks, there’s three at that table.” I nodded and grabbed three menus, checking that my pen and pad where rightly in my pocket. I was exhausted; Mia’s teething was a nightmare. She was constantly waking up in pain. I put the menus down in front of the people, not paying too much attention to them, before pulling out my pad and pen.

“Can I get you any drinks to start with?” I asked but none of them responded. I sighed and looked up, and let me tell you, if I had my own drink I would have spat it out on them.

“Aly? What are you doing in London?” Luke asked with furrowed eyebrows.

“I needed a new start.”

“After what? Breaking Ashton’s heart?” They would be drenched right now.

“What the hell are you talking about Michael?” I snapped, my patience wearing thin with my lack of sleep.

“Don’t pull the innocent act, Ash told us.” Calum added in.

“Look guys, Ash left me, I don’t know what you are talking about. Can I get you any drinks to start with?” I sighed, closing my eyes as memories of Ash and I flashed through my mind.

“Um-” Michael started

“Are you ok Al?” Luke and I were always close, he was like my brother but of course, everyone was closer to Ash so I couldn’t even talk to him about everything.

“I’m just tired.”

“Luke, stop making friends with the enemy, you interrupted me too.” What had Michael so snappy, Jesus? “I’ll have a coke thanks.”

“Me too,” Cal added.

“Pepsi for me.” I jotted them all down on the paper, informing them I would be back to take their order soon.

Finally their dishes came for me to deliver, then I was on my break and I wouldn’t have to deal with them anymore. I placed their dishes in front of them and turned to leave before Luke piped in.

“Why did you do it?” he asked causing me to spin on my heel.

“Why did I do what?” I retorted harshly.

“Break up with Ashton?” he asked, unfazed by my attitude.

“For the final time, get this in your head ok, I Aly May Hendricks did not break up with Ashton Fletcher Irwin, it was the other way. If you could get that into your thi-”

The bell to the café chimed, followed by the familiar cries of Mia. My head snapped in the direction and I saw Renata rushing towards me. I met her halfway and took my daughter out of her arms shushing her. “What’s wrong Ren?”

“Ce said she was sick and she couldn’t get through to you, I’m sorry I have to get back to work but Cece said you needed to get her home and that she was sorry.” I nodded and gave her a quick hug as she rushed out the door.

Sam approached me as I rubbed her back.
“I hate doing this,” he mumbled. “Do you need to go?” he asked and I nodded nervously. “You’ve been working a lot of extra shifts lately so I’m going to allow it this once ok.” I nodded thanking him profusely before rushing out the back to collect my stuff.

“Lovely seeing you again boys,” I told them as they gaped at me. I turned to walk away but Luke called out to me before I could

“Aly wait!”
“What Luke, can’t you see my daughter is sick and I need to get her home?”

“Daughter?” Calum gulped.

“How old is she?” Luke asked very cautiously.
“2 years, three months. Oh and in case you were wondering, she’s Ashton’s. Have a lovely day and enjoy your meals.” I told them before making a bee line to the doorway.

The blonde hair only belonging to Luke appeared beside me.

“What do you want Luke?” i ask

“I want the truth.”
