• Chapter 1 •
-Aly’s POV-
(Aged 16, 2011 May 1st)
I lay on the cold, tiled, bathroom floor with the pregnancy stick in one hand, the other around my bare belly.
No this can’t be. I swear we were safe every time.
I stare at the stick for what feels like hours, just to double check that I wasn’t going crazy.
I looked at the stick, once again and prayed that this wasn’t true, that I was not going to be having a baby at sixteen years of age. But it was true, all of it.
“Aly Cat, I’m home!”
What the fuck is Ashton doing home? And why does his cheesy nickname not comfort me at this time?
I hide the stick in the cabinet and cover it with some of my pads and tampons. He will never go in there. I fold my shirt down, to cover my stomach and exit the bathroom to find Ashton smiling as he sits on the edge of the couch.
“Hey baby, what are you doing home this early?” i peck his lips and sit on his lap.
“I have good news!” he chirps.
“Me too,” I say, before my mind can catch up, “but you first.”
He takes a deep breath and blurts it all out. “Me and the boys are getting signed to a record company and were moving to New York!” I jump of his lap and hug him tight, while he lifts me of the ground and twirls around in circles
“That’s so great Ash! I'm really happy for you guys.” I peck his lips and walk into the bedroom.
“So Aly, what did you want to tell me?”
Oh shit. Lord give me strength.
I slowly turn around, and try to avoid eye contact with Ashton. I think about lying to him but my heart says to tell him the truth. Tell him the truth.
I take a deep breath, and sigh.
“Ashton, I'm pregnant” I blurt, and he stands frozen in his place as his face pales.
He stares at me in silence.
“Ashton? Ash?” I plead.
The words I desperately needed from him, never come out.
“It’s not mine, right?” he asks and I look at him shocked.
“What?”
“Its, not, mine, right?” he repeats.
“What the fuck do you mean? It’s yours! Who else? I was a virgin when we had sex, and I’ve never slept with anyone else besides you.”
“But we used a condom.”
“They don’t always work Ashton,” I shake my head at him.
“Well, get rid of it.”
Did he really just say that? Did he really just have the fucking nerve to say that? About my child, OUR child?
“Are you crazy? You are crazy right?” I ask. “Even though I am sixteen I will get through this, we will get through this,” I correct. “We can both step up and become parents.” I step closer and add, “together.”
“We?” he steps back.
“Yes we,” I confirm.
“My career is just starting, me and the band just got signed, and this is just a big setback for us.”
“What are you saying then?” No, please no Ash, don’t say it. Don't do this to me.
“I'm leaving, I'm not ready for this!”
“YOU THINK I AM FUCKING READY?!” I am on the verge of tears and I'm yelling. “YOU DID THIS TO ME AND YOU ARE GOING TO HELP ME THROUGH THIS, WE WILL BOTH HELP EACH OTHER!”
“It’s not that fucking simple Aly. I have to go.” He turns on his heels and heads for the door.
“Ashton? Ash!?”
He turns around and looks at me.
“You chose right now, either your career or your family.” More tears trickle down my face and I close my eyes.
I hear the front door slam, and I know what choice he made. I open my eyes to find no Ashton, just me and his baby.
I break down and cry on the ground, I am doomed. I am nothing without Ashton, I need Ashton, no, we need Ashton.
I collect myself from crying and lift up my shirt. I rub my belly in a circular motion and say:
“Its ok angel, we will get through this,
together”
