Chapter 15
Harry's POV.
I knelt down between her legs making eye contact with her, even though I was sure that she wouldn't be able to see past her tears.
"Harry" She began to say as she raised her hand to touch my face, but dropped it only half way there. "I'm sorry, I am. I should've….said something. I just don't want to have to keep relying on you," She spoke quieter, I knew she hated yelling at anyone. "We're not 18 anymore, you have your own life Harry,"
After a few minutes of silence, of me just staring at her. "Okay" was all I could manage. I couldn't find the words to say, I couldn't think of anything to say. She was right, but that didn't change the way I felt. I always watched out for Rylynn, she was always someone that I felt protective over. If there was anyway I could prevent her from getting hurt I was going to do anything in my power to stop it.
"Okay?" She spoke as I stood up taking two steps back, hearing the door open.
"Babe, I think Zoe's- Oh sorry" Laura said as she opened the door.
"Laur, I was just on my way down-" I said as I took one more step away from Rylynn, leaning against my desk.
"No, I'm leaving," She said as she walked past myself and Laur towards the door. "I think it's time I head home too, I see you guys later" She said as hurrying out of the room.
"Did I interrupt something?" Laura said as she closed to door standing in front of me wrapping her arms around my torso.
"No, nothing" I said leaning my forehead against hers. "She just wanted to say a quick hello to my Dad"

I couldn't sleep.

That was the hundredth time I looked at the clock in the last hour. After everyone left, my family decided on a movie. Half an hour in and Laura was asleep. I left Laura to sleep on the couch downstairs, wrapped up in a warm blanket before making my way up to mine. It had been almost 2 hours and I was still not getting any sleep. I threw on gym shorts and a sweatshirt, grabbing my journal, thinking I had a better chance sleeping with Laura, then this cold empty room. I was ready to leave my room before something outside caught my attention.
It was on.
Even though me and Rylynn were neighbours, it was no surprise that huge pine trees and willows separated both our houses. But sometimes- normally at this time of the year, when the trees had lost their leaves I could see her bedroom window. I remember when we were little and we would try and use our walkie talkies to talk to each other and when we could see each other and try and yell to each other from our windows but get in trouble for being too loud. But right now her light was on. That only meant one thing- she couldn't sleep, and was probably trying to read Pride and Prejudice for the hundredth time, in hopes of finding the sleep that she lost.
Pressing the call button, I held the phone up to my ear.
"Haz?" She answered, her voice rough.
"Can't sleep?" I asked her as I sat back down on my bed, looking out the frosted window.
"Nope, I think it was the car ride on the way up. I must've slept too long" She yawned in the phone as a small laughed escaped my lips.
"I can't sleep either" Is said, running a hand through my hair, "And no you can't read me Pride and Prejudice, I don't care what Mr. Darcy did this time" I laughed again.
"Harryyy," she whined, "How did you know I was up? And reading pride and prejudice?"
"I can see your window, the light was on i knew you were up, and you love that book" I said standing up to lean against my window frame as I watched her get out of bed and stand in front of her own window, mirroring my stance.
"You're such a creep" She said laughing, as she gave me what I knew was the finger before closing her white curtains, "Shall we play the game then?" She said as I heard her climb into bed.
"Yeah, you go first" I yawned, climbing into my own bed.
"What's the topic?" She asked, "Countries, Animals?"
"Bad names," I said
"Bad names? Okay….I guess we can do that" She laughed
Rylynn and I always played this game when one of us couldn't get to sleep. I don't really remember when it started, maybe one night when I called her whilst I was on tour. I loved touring, but I could never sleep. I always had trouble finding sleep on the road, so whenever I would call Rylynn anytime of the day she would pick up and we would talk on the phone, until I ended up falling sleep. One day this game started, we picked a topic and said the first thing that came to mind with every letter of the alphabet, after we both buckled over in laughter, we would both end up falling asleep.
"Go Harry, it's your turn" She said catching my attention. "I said Archibald" She giggled
"Archibald? okay….B" I said thinking, "Boris"
"Boris? That's not a bad name, Haz. Liam's turtles name was Boris" She said, I could hear her smiling through the phone.
"Exactly that bloody thing made a hole in my shoe"
"Harry, you can't hold it against that little turtle. He was so cute"
"Whatever, it wasn't your shoe. Your turn"
"humm….Caliban" She laughed
"You're horrible at this game" I said shaking my head, as I whispered through the phone.
"Am not! You picked the worst topic ever" She argued
"Dinky"
"What" She said between laughs
"Dinky, Is a God awful name" I said closing my eyes
"That's not even a name you doofus" She yawned
"Your turn"
"Fanny" She said quietly
"Gertrude"
"Harry" She whispered,
"That's not a bad name, I like my name" I said standing up, walking toward my window as her light turned off
"Obviously you do" She argued, sleepily.
"Fine. Ink, I would never name my kid Ink"
"But you would name your kid Darcy?" she asked.
"Maybe, I liked it at one point. Not anymore. You go"
"What letter, J?" She asked as I heard shuffling on the other end
"Wait, Ry" I said as I kept my eyes on her window, "I'm sorry for overreacting, I know it wasn't my place to get so over protective. I'll leave that to Talan" I whispered, "I just I like knowing you're okay. I don't know what I would've done if something happened"
"It's okay Haz, I understand" She said quietly "Jedidiah. I don't like that name"
"Me either, " I laughed "Will you come with me tomorrow, to get Laura's christmas present, we can make a day out of it? Maybe go to the winter fair in town?" I asked
"Anything you want Haz, it's your turn" I could tell she was falling asleep.
I chuckled, shaking my head even though she couldn't see me "Kale"
"That's a vegetable" She smiled, "Leander"
"M….." I thought to myself as I heard stead breaths coming from the other side of the phone.
Smiling I whispered "Goodnight Ry, Sweet Dreams"
Looking back out the window one last time, before deciding it was a good idea to check on Laura. I threw my journal back on the desk as I walked towards my doors.
"I know," I heard a voice,
It's Laura? I walked further into the hallway, reaching the top of the stairs
"Soon, I promise" She said,
I walked further, making my way slowly down the stairs till I could see her back turned to me. She was on the phone.
"It's just hard now. I can't wait till we're back together, I'll see you at Christmas?" She whispered "I love you too, so much babe"
I walked back up the stairs, closing my bed room door behind me.
Grabbing my journal and a pen off the desk and turned on my lamp.
