Surviving

I woke up for the second time in so long. I looked at my surroundings. Zayn, Harry, Lou, Niall, and Paige were sitting, looking at the fire. Effey was jumping around, looking at things. He saw me and hopped over, onto my lap.

I cleared my throat and everyone looked at me. "To the rafts?" I giggled.

Everyone smiled and we started walking to the shore.

Niall decided to join our group and help today, just to get the job done faster.

"Remind me of the plan, what do we do when the rafts are actually built?" Paige asked as we arrived at the rafts.

"We all get on rafts and sail until we see someone." I said. "That's why these need to be sturdy."

"Ohhh." She trailed and I walked over to the rafts.

There were 5 of them, and since we have 9 people, plus a lemur, 2 to a raft. I dont know how we're gonna separate, but I guess I'm going with Louis.

"Damn, the stupid people didn't do that bad. I thought it would be worse." Louis laughed. Its true, they weren't bad.

"C'mon, we gotta fix these up. Let's focus." Harry patted me on the back. I must've been spacing out.

I walked over to a raft that wasnt being worked on and started working on it. I put another board on my boat. Then another. I pretty much doubled all of the boards. Then I did built a little crate for food. I looked around to see I had made the most progress out of everyone else.

Oh boy, it's gonna be a long day.

After I had finished my raft, I helped everyone else. Eventually I gave up and decided to do some exploring on the island. I walked around our old camp and saw Melissa's desinigrated body.

You could barely make out her face. Wait, that doesn't even look like her!!! The only thing similar is her hair. That's not Mel!

"NIALL!!!" I shrieked.

He ran over. "What!?" He asked. "It's just Mel's body."

"No, it's not. That's not her!" I pointed to her face.

Niall sighed. "Yes it is. Babe, when was the last time you ate?"

"I dont know..." oh god, I'm hallucinating.

"Just get something to eat." He kissed my cheek. He's so sweet. "Come help me finish me boat." He smiled and took my hand, leading me back.

I looked at his progress. He was nearly done, just needed to do the food crate.

I spoke, "Listen, can we not tell anyone about the whole Melissa incident?"

"Of course. " he said and smiled. Thank god.

I thought back to my past as I worked. It was a weird feeling that my body was doing something while my mind wandered. I then came to a thought. The year after we met Zayn.

*FLASHBACK*

I drove home on my birthday, alone, from the store. Mel asked me to get her tampons and I couldn't say no. She didnt even say happy birthday to me.

I walked inside my house and immediately heard "Surprise!" throughout the house. I looked around. Banners, streamers, confetti, a table with a ton of food on it. I already knew that was Niall's doing.

"Happy birthday, Toni." Zayn came up and kissed me.

"Thanks, and thank you all."

Who was I thanking, the only people here were Harry, Mel, Niall, Liam, Zayn, and Lou. Eh, couldn't really ask for anyone else to be here. We had no other friends.

"Come on. Karaoke time." Harry knew me so well.

We all stood in front of the tv screen, ready to sing. We decided that we'd sing only one song tonight. And that song was Hey There, Delilah.

Harry sang with Mel.

*FLASHBACK OVER*

I sang quietly the whole time that night, because none of them heard me sing, not even Mel, except for Niall. He walked in on me singing once.

Now that I think about it, no one ever heard me sing before. I know what you're thinking, I sing all the time. But I've never actually sang sang. I pretty much just said my words and changed the pitch in my voice.

Haha, if they thought that singing was my actual singing, then they were nuts. I rest my case. I never actually sang in front of anyone except for Niall. Now, I'm thinking about it more. Why hasn't Niall said anything about that?

I looked at the progress. All five boats were done completely. We walked back to the shelter and sat at the fire.

No one spoke until Violet finally said, "How did it go?"

"Well, all the rafts are done. How did food finding go?" I said.

"We found some food, enough for a few weeks if we add it to what we have in the house." Alexis took fucking charge. Ugh, why do I hate her so much?

"So when do we leave?" Paige looked around.

"I say we search the plane for survival stuff tomorrow and then we leave the next day." I smiled at my girl bff. Then I looked at Alexis, "Anyone else have any ideas?"

Of course, she said, "Why leave so soon? Why so eager to get off this island?" She cocked an eyebrow. That bitch is just...ugh, she knows I hate her.

"Well, we dont know what's on this island, and I don't plan on staying to find out." Ha bitch, you look stupid now. "So it's settled, we leave in two days." I sighed.

No one said anything after that.

Eventually, I heard Niall singing,

I could see the look in all the guys eyes. They knew what this song meant to me.

Niall sang, that was what harry sang that year, but they kinda switched parts in the song this time. Niall sang first instead of Harry.

I looked to Niall. He smiled.

Everyone was asleep in the house except for Harry, Zayn, Niall and I, so I decided to do some investigating.

"Niall, why did you sing that song?" I leaned my head on his shoulder.

"I heard you singing it today while we were building." I was singing outloud?! Thank god it was Niall.

"And I have a question, why don't you sing like you did the day I walked in in you? Like your heart isn't in it?" He frowned.

"Because I'm afraid to sing. Im afraid that my real voice is terrible." I gave in and said the truth.

"Tommy, your voice is beautiful. It's like a combination of fergie and Jesus." He said and I laughed at his Step Brothers reference.

"So is yours Niall. So is yours." I laughed.

We all stayed awake again this night except for Niall. I planned to raid the plane by myself tonight.
