Janelle's POV:

She drapes her arms around me in the most plastic way possible, making me feel that I am surrounded with bubble wrap instead of living hands. “Its so good to see you, sis.” Ugh, I hated the word ‘sis’ every time she used it on me. I have learned from previous moments that Perrie uses it to show fake affection; almost exposing how much she cares less for my sake.
I won’t be quiet any longer, I need to defend myself. Before I am able to form a fire back, Perrie stairs at my eyes, and notices that I am not looking at her. I haven’t noticed that my sight was still frozen on the flawless creature behind her. She stares at me, then at him in confusion. “Honey! Don’t just stand there, its just Janelle. Come say hi.”
I beg my ears to lie to me, and tell me that what I just heard wasn’t true. Her words are so controlling, dominating even! And what shocked me more is that Zayn nodded and started walking over. As much as I want him closer, as much as I am annoyed that he has lost his own character to Perrie.
How could he be so in love with her if that’s how she commands and instruct? Once his classical leather boots land in front of my heels, I see his face nearer to mine. Not nearer like a kissing position, just nearer as in handshake distance position. His eyes talk with mine, and I can hear them beg me to give him some attention.
“Its good to see you, Zayn.” I stretch my hand to shake his, but silence suddenly roams around the three of us. Both of his protective arms stretch out and grab my waist, gathering me in a hug. The smell of cinnamon still sticks out through his body, just like it used to back in college.
I allow myself to forget about Perrie’s existence right now, and I close my eyes as my chin rubs along his shoulder. Once my arms begin to hug him back, the blonde minx clears her throat. “Alright! (She drags Zayn’s arm and places it over her waist.) Let’s get inside, I don’t want to get a cold.” Of course that’s why we would want to get inside, so that Perrie won’t suffer from a cold… Ha!
I walk up the stairs of the porch, and slide the door open. I don’t dare to look behind me because if I see them kissing or doing any symbolic affection; I will feel weaker deep inside. Once the three of us reach the table, my stepparents greet the couple, and I glide to take my seat. Before I am able to do that, Perrie grabs my wrist and spins me like we are dancing.
I twirl in utter confusion, and the rest watch on this clueless action. “Look at her, everybody. Hasn’t she changed? I mean who would have thought that four years could turn a nerd to a mannequin? (She shifts her eyes from the rest, and aims them at me) Looks like you finally decided to give a care about how you look like, sis. I’m so happy for you.” Happy for me? Happy for me! Please god, grant me as much patience as there is.
Someone amazes us with his intruding words, making my eyes flutter in a blush: “You were always beautiful.” Everyone turns his head to look at Zayn. Zayn forks his salad, and bites on the portion like what he said was nothing of a big deal. I clearly recall that I caught his eyes in mine when he said those words, but as everyone showed him interest, he pretended like he never even spoke. “Thanks.” I simply say, thanking him not only for his words, but also for making me believe that he somehow still cares for me.
