…During Dinner…

Janelle's POV:

“So Perrie, what was it that you wanted to tell us? Your only condition to tell us was that your sister showed up; well we all are here. Tell us, darling.” My stepmom emphasises her kind words, clearly excited to learn the unknown of Perrie’s announcement. She smiles, and slides her fingers into Zayn’s, looking at him in complete anticipation. “We’re getting married!” I choke on my lettuce, coughing nonstop to what seems like a death ending. A part of me wishes that this tiny piece of lettuce would choke me, sparing me from this life that is yet to be ruined even more that it has become.
“I’m so happy for you!” My stepmom jumps from her seat and hugs her biological daughter. My stepdad on the other hand, pats my back softly, and hands me a glass of water. Zayn doesn’t speak, nor does he do anything else than finishing his plate.
He didn’t even interact with the announcing part, nor when I choked. It’s like he can’t belong to me, and nor can he to Perrie. If my memory doesn’t fail me, I remember Zayn as different person. The person that he was, was full of life, risk taking, childishly funny, and most of all… he had his own voice.
“Jan, darling? Aren’t you going to say something about this?” My stepmother asks, and deep down my inner voice screams: Oh yes I want to say something to miss Barbie doll over here… Stop torturing Zayn and yourself, sister! He clearly doesn’t want you and he has transformed to your obedient slave instead of being a boyfriend! He doesn’t want you! Clearly!
Once my inner voice shuts down, I shake my head to regain focus. “(I draw a smile, as I plan my words before talking) Certainly, yes. Perrie congratulations I am happy for you. Zayn is such a confident man you know, so I won’t be worrying about the both of you in the future… (Zayn catches me eyes, as I look at him and smirk) Isn’t that right, brother- in- law?”
He mutters something under his breath, and chugs down the remaining of his wine glass. Perrie face exposes the amount of personal satisfaction, that she has gained from her disgusting announcement. To come and think of it, why am I burning myself so much about this? Zayn was never interested in me, and I lost my only chance in confessing my feelings to him. I should move on… starting from now.
…The Next Morning…
I spin around my bed, forcing my eyes powerfully to stay closed. But that never succeeded, since my ears caught up with stubble knocks at my door. I twist and twirl over the mattress, and I stumble my feet into my slippers to unlock the door. I open the door with my left hand, as the right one stretches along with my entire body like a lazy kitten.
“They told me you have changed, but I couldn’t believe it until I saw it.” I freeze to that accent. My eyes pin at his in adoration, but his eyes are focused on my exposed belly; damn it I shouldn’t have worn tiny PJs. He waits no longer to bring me into his arms, and I smile at the friend that I used to respect extremely.
“Its so good to see you again Liam.” I drop our hug, and my eyes scan his changed figure. He is extremely built; unlike he used to be back in college. His hair is styled like that famous footballer… what’s his name… oh yes, Beckham. He still has that amazing smile where his eyes squint at the appearance of his teeth. With Liam here with me now, my endless worrying starts to dissolve.
