Gone
Thirty
I hope I hadn't been too harsh. I mean, we barely knew each other. Who knows what he could be hiding. For all I know he could be a serial killer. I was new to this whole dating thing. I didn't know how it usually worked. So I was going to do this my way or not at all. He seemed pretty pleased to have at least a shot with me though and quite frankly, I was happy to give him one. To be honest, I was kind of excited to have a boyfriend. If you had of asked me if I wanted one maybe two weeks ago, I would of said hell no. The game was changing though.
"Of course baby, I won't let you down,"
He smiled and kissed me on the top of my head. He was about to kiss me again when what sounded like a phone went off. It wasn't mine. I froze and so did he. He frowned.
"Um, that's my phone, I'm just going to check who's calling me, won't be long," he said.
Slowly, I released my tight grip from around him and watched him fumble through the contents of his Nike backpack, desperately trying to reach for his phone. When he finally pulled it out and held it to his ear, his eyebrows sloped upwards in frustration.
"Amber, stop," he said, lowering his voice to a whisper, "please,"
Oh god. What did she want? Had Niall told her? What if this was their plan, to make me fall for him and humiliate me? All I wanted was a real relationship with someone who wasn't going to lie and sneak around with a hidden agenda. Suddenly, the sense of excitement had gone and I was left with paranoia. He caught me staring as he glanced over at me.
I tore my eyes away from him and cocked my head to the side to make it easier to listen in to his conversation
"Look, I told you, it's over," he said through gritted teeth.
He clenched his fists.
Silence. The only thing I could hear was the continuous ringing of the crickets hidden in the bushes surrounding us.
"I'm with Kaia,"
I swear I heard the shrill shrieks of Amber on the other end of the phone from where I was sitting.
"I really like her so be happy for us or stay out of it,"
Without even hesitating he hung up and threw his phone back in the pocket of his bag. Maybe I was wrong. It really did seem as though it was over. I finally decided once and for all that he really was telling me the truth. Well, that...or...he was a talented liar.
