Chapter 5: Thoughts, Pool, and Lips

Emily can’t believe how well she’s doing. It’s been a week, and she’s been around the blond very little, and the only times that she is, she’s with someone else. It’s hard to believe that her plan is coming along nicely. She thought that it would only last two days at the most, but here she is without the blond around her. She’s pretty proud of herself. There is just one thing that crosses her mind in a negative sort of way.
Although she hasn’t been around Niall all that much, she can tell that he’s getting worse. There are bags underneath his eyes, and he’s getting aggravated at everything. It isn’t even just the guys annoying him. He gets upset just by accidentally bumping his arm against something. He acts like it did it on purpose even though that’s impossible. He’s also becoming more observant too. Claire was just talking to her the other day that that is a symptom of PTSD.
The brunette feels like it’s partly her fault. She’s not sure why, but she has been avoiding him, and she knows that there has been a few times when he approached her. Maybe he does want to talk about the kiss to get it off his chest, and she’s not giving him the chance. Maybe he’s getting even madder because she’s avoiding him. Now, she can’t be sure on this, but the thoughts keep making their way into her head. She’s wrote it in her diary a couple of times which does seems a little bit too much, but she truly can not stop thinking about him. It must have to do with that writing spark that she had. Yes, that has to be it.
“Earth to Emily,” Claire says as she waves her hand in front of her friend’s face.
Emily shakes her head as she gets rid of the thoughts in order to focus on the blue-eyed girl. “I’m back. What is it?”
“Well,” Claire starts as she looks over at the guys, excluding Niall, who are all sitting around. They were all watching TV and talking while Emily went into her head. “The guys and I were thinking about going swimming.”
“Isn’t it too late for that?”
Claire chuckles. “Time doesn’t fly that fast. No, we still have plenty of time to go swimming.”
“Speaking of swimming,” Liam says, “I noticed that you guys have a pool and hot tub out back. Why aren’t we swimming in that? It’s less of a walk.”
“I like the ocean, but we can swim in the pool instead. It’s easier for pool stuff. I have some pool accessories that we can inflate and start using.” They all nod their head in agreement. “Well, it looks like we have some inflating to do. Let’s go!”
The group all change and then go out to start inflating the different things that Claire has for the pool. The size of it is enormous, and the selection is just as big. There are chairs, hoops, a wet for volleyball, and slides. They each grab something that they would like to use in the pool and get to work. After discovering that she has machines that can do the job for them, Harry and Louis set those up and go right into the pool while the others blow and use hand pumps for the smaller things. They start splashing, and Claire can’t help herself. She jumps in and joins the fun. Zayn gives up and gets into the shallow side with a pool noodle just incase he has to go over to the other side.
“Are we stuck pumping now?” Liam asks them all as he motions towards Emily and himself.
“Pretty much,” Claire laughs as she splashes Harry back.
Emily smiles at them all, but then she remembers that she doesn’t have her notebook on her. She left it on the table inside. Now, normally it would be weird to just carry a notebook with you, but Emily has been having a lot of ideas lately. It’s a lot more than what she is used to, so she’s been making sure that she has something with her at all times just in case.
“I forgot my notebook inside,” she tells her new friend. “I’ll just go and grab it and a pen. I’ll be right back.”
“I’ll right,” he says back. “At least you’re helping.”
With that, Emily rushes back into the house. She’s about to go into the living room, but she literally bumps into someone. There is only one person that it could be, and she can’t believe her luck. Niall just gives her a frown before going into the kitchen like he was planning to before she ran into him. He goes over to the fridge and grabs a bottle of water out of it. Emily watches as he does so because she doesn’t know what to do. It’s obvious that he has dismissed her, but the thoughts that were on her mind from before are back. She’s not sure if she should try to ask the question or not.
The brunette finds herself walking over to her. It’s almost as if someone has control over her. A rush of confidence fills her, and she doesn’t know where it is coming from. The thought of it actually being someone or something gives her another story idea that she’ll have to write down later when this is all over. The words are right there at the tip of her tongue. Niall turns to face her with an unamused look on his face. The words start to go back down her throat again, and she starts questioning herself again. All of a sudden, she gets a hold of herself and just throws it out.
“What was with that kiss last week?”
There she did it. She finally did it. She mentally smiles at herself for finally getting the nerve to ask him. She waits for him to respond, but he doesn’t do it verbally. He just shrugs. That mental smiles turns to a sad frown. He doesn’t know? She should have figured that it didn’t mean anything. She just shouldn’t have asked at all.
“You don’t know?” He shakes his head as he takes a sip of the water. She sighs and turns her head away from him. “I should have known that it didn’t mean anything. I mean, with everything that you’ve been through...”
“Stop it,” he says, but she doesn’t acknowledge it.
“You were held captive by a crazy fan and-”
“Just stop it!”
Her eyes widen as she goes to look at him. “I...I’m sorry. I...”
He doesn’t look as mad, but he still looks rather annoyed. “Well, why did you even kiss back?”
The spark is the only thing that comes to mind, but she can’t tell him about that. “You wouldn’t understand.”
“And you wouldn’t understand my case either.”
“I... You’re right.”
He sets the bottle down, and Emily has no idea what he is going to do. Will he except that? Will he yell at her? She even question if he’ll hit her for a second. She closes her eyes in wait, and she can feel his quick breath on her. He’s going to hit her, isn’t he? That’s what she keeps thinking. She waits for the impact, but that isn’t what happens. He grabs her chin and kisses her.
The brunette’s eyes open wide in surprise but close once she feels that spark start to come back. She kisses back and wraps her arms around his neck. It’s goes from just a normal kiss to lips sliding against each other in not that much time at all. The spark grows, and Emily finds her hands pulling at his hair while one of his rest on her ass that is covered by the white see-through bathing suit cover that she finally dug out of her bag.
All of a sudden, Niall stops. “Did you hear that?”
“Hear what?”
He doesn’t answer. The blond just grabs her wrist and drags her up the stairs. He starts to go to his room, but he stops himself and goes into her’s instead. She has no idea why, but she doesn’t question it because that spark is there, and she doesn’t want it to leave. As soon as they are in the room, Niall shuts the door and then gets back to what he was doing before he heard some kind of sound.
Emily feels herself being driven backwards, and it doesn’t take long before she’s laying down instead of standing. Driven by that spark, she moves up so that her head is on the pillow and allows the blond to start working on her neck. He goes to her lips after a bit and lets one of his hands wander up that cover. As their tongues meet, his fingers play with the string of her bathing suit top.
Niall’s about ready to pull it, but he doesn’t get to because he hears something again. He sits up and motions for her to be quiet. She does like he says even though she thinks that he’s just hearing things. The faint sound of footsteps coming up the stairs causes her to realize that there really is someone there. She quickly gets up and looks around. The bathroom! She grabs Niall and pushes him inside. Now with him hidden, she fixes her hair as she goes over to her writing area and makes it look like he’s writing an idea down. The idea from earlier comes into her head, and she starts to write that down.
“There you are,” Claire says as she walks in with a towel around her. “We were wondering where you went.”
“Sorry,” the brunette says as she continues to write. “I got this idea in my head, and I wanted to write it completely out. I’ll be down in a few. Don’t wait on me.”
“Well... alright I guess.”
Claire leaves, and Emily listens to her footsteps. As soon as they cannot be heard, she gets up and lets Niall out of the bathroom. She offers him a smile, but he doesn’t return it. He simply leaves. She feels a bit sad, but she knows that she should have expected that. The brunette walks into the bathroom to make sure that she is presentable and not look like she just had a makeout session with the blond that is suppose to be getting better.
Thoughts make their way into her head as she does this. Is this all OK? Is it OK to be doing this with him? She knows that it means nothing to him, and when it comes to her, she only wants it to be getting that writing spark. Is it the right thing? She thinks about how other people do it, but then she ends up questioning it all again. Then a thought crosses her mind.
Is it alright when it makes the stress from home go away completely?

Notes

That was some chapter...
I'm not going to say anything more.
Let's see what this turns into later next week or what happens. I don't know since I haven't thought it up yet. Hey, let's just how I work most of the time. LLN.
Anyway, I hope you liked it!

@The Renegade
Thank you!
:) :) :)
Emily is probably one of my more favorite characters that I've made. She's different, but she still has that touch of me. The whole writing bit and not knowing how to act in real life even though she writes about it all comes from me. I can't wait for her character to evolve though. I've got some stuff planned for her.

I really like Emily's character in this story. She's a writer, so she gets to almost-break the fourth wall, which is cool. Additionally, she's got a sensible head on her shoulders. Glad you got to update some more - I really like this story too so far :D

@The Renegade
Yes, I am. It's in the genes.

I always have a plan on dragging the beginning out because I feel like I rush into things. It never works (except for my newer stories. I'm getting better at it.) This story, however, needs to get right into it.
And arigatou. Meow. :)
