Chapter 4: Drink, Guys, and Embarrassment

The blond boy sits his head out of the door. Good. There is no one in sight. He opens the door fully and starts walking over to the stairs. He almost stops by Emily’s room, but he knows that she probably isn’t in there. He doesn’t really know, but he doesn’t think that she is. Hopefully these walls are thick, and she didn’t pass his room like he is doing to her’s right now. Now, he’s not sure what to feel about it all. He feels different. He is different. It’s not his fault, but he can’t change what he’s become. You know when you act nice for no reason whatsoever? Well, it’s like that. He doesn’t have any control. He just hopes that no one heard him or anything because that would make them talk to him or look at him differently. They are all treating him differently as it is. It doesn’t want it to get any worse. It’s annoying as it is.
Knowing that everyone is upstairs, Niall goes down. Of course it isn’t just because he doesn’t want to be around them. No, he wants to get something to drink. The kitchen is downstairs obviously. The lone singer makes his way down the stairs and then into the kitchen. The room doesn’t have a lot of color. Green and brown are really the only ones. The green comes from the few plants in there for decoration, and the light brown comes from the wood. The rest of the kitchen is made up of white, black, and varies grays. It’s also modern looking, but the blond doesn’t really dwell on the image before him. He wants a drink, and that’s the only reason why he came down here.
Niall goes over and opens the fridge. There is pop, water, and... That will do nicely. The Irish boy takes the bottle out of the icy chamber, opens it and takes a swig. He could care less that the owners of the house are American. He can’t stand their age limit and could care less right now. With the drink in hand, he starts to head towards the stairs, but a noise stops him. It isn’t just a noise. It’s someone knocking on the door. The blond doesn’t hear anyone coming down the stairs, and he feels part of his nice self pushing itself through his current self. Although he really doesn’t want to talk to anyone, he finds himself going over to the door and opening it.
Outside are two guys about his age. One of them has a very big smile on his face. He has shaggy brown hair and hazel eyes that look way too happy for the blond’s liking. Niall also notices how skinny he is. His skinny jeans make it look like he has chicken legs or something like that. Now the other guy looks like he doesn’t really want to be there. His hair is like coal, his eyes are like bark, and he looks fit.
Niall doesn’t like him one bit.
“Hello,” the grinning boy says. “I’m Stellan, and I’m Claire’s boyfriend. She said that I can come over.”
Niall doesn’t really know if he should let him in or not. He could be lying since the blond hasn’t listened to a word that that girl has said since he got there. He figures that it’s alright and is about to choose to let them in, but he doesn’t have to because that said girl rushes down the stairs and over to them. The blond gets out of her way and notices that Emily and Liam are coming down as well. He notices how they seem to be walking right next to eachother. They seem to be getting along well.
Niall doesn’t like it one bit.
“I’m so glad that you’re here,” Claire says as she takes her boyfriends hand and pulls him inside. He notices the other guy. “Oh, you must be Jake. Stellan told me a lot about you.”
Jake gives her a smile and goes back to focusing on something else. Niall’s blue eyes follow his line of sight to find that he’s looking at the delicate brunette. His blue eyes go back to the black-haired guy’s face. The blond notices the way that his eyes seem to light up and his once slightly bored and annoyed expression becomes a little smirk.
Niall really doesn’t like that at all.
“Hi, I’m Emily,” the kind girl says as she goes over to shake their hands.
Jake does his, but Stellan pulls her into a hug. “You don’t have to be so formal with me.” He lets go of her. “Any best of my sweetie is a friend of mine.” Emily doesn’t say anything further. She just gives him a smile.
The black-haired guy looks over at Liam and then Niall. “Liam and Niall, right?” Liam nods and goes over to them, but Niall only takes another sip. Of course, this catches Claire’s attention.
“Dad doesn’t like us drinking..., but I think that he’ll let you slip. I mean, you’re a guest from another country, and there is the reason... Nevermind me. Just go ahead.”
Niall does mind it though. He knows what she was going to say, and this is the reason why he hasn’t been listening to her. He hasn’t been listening to anyone because they are all treating him the same way, like a kid. He’s twenty-years-old. He’s not some kid that needs to be watched or taken care of. As far as he’s concerned, there is nothing wrong with him at all. He gets kidnaped by a fan only to be locked in a cage by his so-called friends and people that he’s never met before. Yes, he does mind, but in the end, there is nothing that he can do about it.
After Claire says this, the Irish boy doesn’t pay attention to what any of them are saying. He just stands there. It doesn’t take long before they all start going up the stairs. Emily is behind them all. She turns around and comes over to him. He doesn’t say anything. He simply just waits for her to say what’s she’s going to say. Although he wants to be left alone, he’s OK with her being here. He’s not sure why, but he does. The brunette’s cheeks are flushed, and her mouth keeps opening and closing. The singer continues to wait for her to say at least one word, but she ends up just staring at him with wide eyes. Her cheeks get even redder, and then she runs back up the stairs. Of course the blond knows what that was all about, but he isn’t going to dwell on this little encounter. Honestly, he doesn’t know why he did it either. He just did. Besides, that’s probably not the answer that she’s looking for.
Now that he is completely alone, he finishes his drink and throws the bottle away in the recycling bin that they have for glass that resides in the kitchen. Niall makes his way back up the stairs after this. Of course he doesn’t go up the the third floor to be with anyone. He goes right back to his room to be by himself. He has a feeling that this is probably going to be one of the only times that he’s going to get to be by himself. They’ve already annoyed him most of their short time here, and he knows that it will just continue. He just hopes that there will be days like this where they all want to have fun and only hang out with each other. He’s not apart of their group, and he wants it to stay that way.
~
After Emily ran up the stairs, she didn’t go up with the others. She went into her room instead. Her cheeks are red, and she slumps down as soon as she shut the door. She’s completely embarrassed. She didn’t mean to just stand there and look like some kind of fish. She wanted to ask why he had kissed her, but she just couldn’t bring herself to do so. With a sigh, she goes over to the desk and grabs her diary. She thinks that writing this down will make her feel better, so she opens it up and grabs a gel pen.

Dear Diary,
I am so embarrassed right now! I went to ask Niall why he kissed me. I don’t even know why I even tried. I should have known that I couldn’t do it. I don’t know why I thought that I might be able to. This is just like one of those bad parts in my stories. I mean, it’s not one of the really bad parts. It’s just a little part, but it’s still bad. I completely embarrassed myself, and I didn’t even find out why he kissed me!
I wish that I could ask someone what to do. I wish that I had a fairy godmother, but instead of getting me ready to go to a ball, she would give me advice. She’d be the advice fairy. It would be so nice to have her sitting right here and telling me what to do.
There goes my writing side again.
Anyway, I really do wish that I had someone to talk to. I’d ask Claire, but I know how she is. She wouldn’t shut up about it. Besides, what if he didn’t mean it like that anyway? Plus, there is that spark that I’m getting. I doubt that Claire would know why I’m getting this writing spark. I wish that I could talk to the guys, but they would either be just like her or tell me to leave him alone. They want him to get better, and something like this would only make him worse. Just look at me. I came here to relax from my stressful life that I left at home. I’m not as stressed as what I was, but I’m still stressed. I need to think of something.
I’m not sure of what to do. How about I keep my distance from him? He can’t do it again if he’s not by me, right? Plus, I wouldn’t be by the thing that is causing all the stress anyway. I can just avoid it all. I’ll avoid all the stress in my life. I’m not sure if it will work, but I’ll give it a shot. Let’s see how it goes.
Emily

With that done, she lets out a big breath and closes her diary. Knowing that everyone is probably wondering where she is, she goes over to her door and starts to open it. She stops though after only a small crack is open because she hears footsteps. Silently, she opens it enough for her to see out. It’s Niall. She watches as he leaves her sight. That was a close one, and she just came up with this whole avoiding him thing!
Is she really going to be able to do this when they are living together?

Notes

Well, I meant to write this up yesterday... Oops.
But I'm back, and I'm staying! I didn't write my last month of school because of all the school stuff going on. Well, I'm no longer a high school student, and it's time to write and read. (There is also video games, but that's not a good thing. It distracts me from writing and reading. LLN.)
Originally, I wasn't going to have a chapter that focused on our blond, but I couldn't help myself. I also added something else to the story as well, but that's fine.
Poor Emily though. Hopefully, your plan will work. (Or not. ;) )
Well, just have to wait and see.
Anyway, I hope you liked it!

@The Renegade
Thank you!
:) :) :)
Emily is probably one of my more favorite characters that I've made. She's different, but she still has that touch of me. The whole writing bit and not knowing how to act in real life even though she writes about it all comes from me. I can't wait for her character to evolve though. I've got some stuff planned for her.

I really like Emily's character in this story. She's a writer, so she gets to almost-break the fourth wall, which is cool. Additionally, she's got a sensible head on her shoulders. Glad you got to update some more - I really like this story too so far :D

@The Renegade
Yes, I am. It's in the genes.

I always have a plan on dragging the beginning out because I feel like I rush into things. It never works (except for my newer stories. I'm getting better at it.) This story, however, needs to get right into it.
And arigatou. Meow. :)
