Through The Dark

Sophia's POV

These past few days were amazing.

Eric's friend snuck us into a really amazing concert to some band we never heard of but instantly liked.

We went walking down the pier in Santa Monica,
and Michael somehow ended up with a puppy.
He named him Pepperoni.

Walking down the stars in Hollywood was probably the best moment for me, because it was the first time I'd gotten mobbed.

Eating at Neptune's Net in Malibu, I stood up shrieking and I chucked my phone because I found out I had a fan page.
Luce later informed me that there were others, and I had another episode. Luckily, no phone in my hands.

For lunch today, Eric and Ashton are attempting to grill some stuff. Luce and I made a bet that we'll have to order to-go food in the after mass.

Luce and I were in the kitchen, making some Nutella cookies and iced tea.

"So. What's up with you and Michael?" I asked.

She blushed, and slid the pan into the oven.
"I don't know. He kissed me. Yesterday."

I squealed.
"Really? That's great!"

Her smile faltered.
"But. We're so different. He likes girls with piercings and tattoos and dyed hair. The most extreme thing I've done is double pierce my ear."

"Aw. Lu, don't let that get you down. I mean look at Romeo and Juliet. They were different." I replied.

"Romeo and Juliet died." Luce said, frowning.

We bust out laughing.

My phone buzzed on the counter. Wiping some stray Nutella onto a napkin, I opened the text.

From: Niall
Landing in 1 hr. ;)

I furrowed my eyebrows and responded.

To: Niall
Landing? Landing where?

From: Niall
To Los Angeles, silly. :p

Oh right. I talked to Niall four days ago. I didn't think it was serious.

To: Niall
Should I pick you up?

He replied.
From: Niall
Its alright. Send me the address?
gotta go. electronic devices must be turned off.

"Luce? Mind if more people come?" I asked.

She looked up from stirring the tea.
"What? Oh sure. The more the merrier."

"Great! Niall's flying in." I added some ice cubes to the pitcher.

"So. What's with you and Ash?" Luce said, grinning.

I smiled.
"He's great. Really sweet and funny. I don't know if there will be a me and Ash though."

"Why not? He has it bad for you, according to Eric." Luce said.

"Eric? Seems like they've gotten along." I said, looking out the window.

Ashton, Eric and Michael were laughing at something Mikey said. It was one of those so-funny-you-might-stop-breathing-sort of laughs.

Ashton turned, and waved. I waved back.

"Is there room for Niall?" I asked, hopping on the counter.

"Plenty. Good ol' Mr. Dad provided a large place." Luce said.

Luce's dad was never around. Just sent checks every ear since she was five to support herself and her mom. Her mom re-Married and moved to San Diego, so her father bought her this loft studio thing for her.

"How's your mom doing?" I asked.

"Popping out baby number two." She said.

Mostly, we continued to chat, catching up and talking about high school will we prepared the food. We decided on making it ourselves rather than ordering.

My phone rang.

"Hello? This is Sophia." I answered.

"Be there in five!" Niall said.

"Oh shit. Sorry I forgot to pick you up!" I said, hitting my forehead.

"It's alright. Spend some pretty on the down low time with some unusually calm fans. It was fun." Niall replied.

"Calm? Wow. Congrats!" It was probably rare.

"Call you back? There's a cop beside me, and I'm driving." Niall said.

"Okay. Bye!" I said, hanging up.

I walked outside to the back where everyone was at.

"More to the left. I said left, not down Ashton!" Luce commanded, watching as Ashton and Eric tried to string up lights in the back.

I laughed. Luce could be bossy...

"Hey Sophia!" Ashton yelled, jumping off the ladder.

"Hello!" I said.

Eric plugged in the lights.
"What's up?"

"Oh, nothin'. Niall's coming." I told them.

"Yay! Luce Niall's coming!" Michael yelled.

Ashton and Eric chuckled.

On cue, the door bell, and we headed inside to join the new vagabond.

"Horan!" I exclaimed, hugging Niall as he walked in.

"Jones!" He yelled, mimicking me.

I pulled away.
"I missed ya, you little leprechaun."

"I just talked to you like ten minutes ago." Niall laughed.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Ashton glare at him and scowl. Weird.

"Niall? You left your..." Someone began to say. Their voice faltered. "Sophia."

I swallowed. "Hello, Harry."

Ashton crossed his arms and went outside, slamming the door behind him.

Mikey motioned for me to follow after him.

I ran out, chasing Ashton. He ran fast.

"Ashton! Come back!" I yelled. He never turned around. Just kept running.

I tripped on an uneven part of sidewalk and went tumbling down.

"Oh, dammit." I said, eyeing my knees.

I scraped them, not too bad. Knees always looked worse than they actually were because they bled a lot.

"Ashton!" I yelled.

He finally turned, and his expression changed as he saw me sitting on the concrete.

Ashton ran back.
"Sophia! The hell were you thinking?" He said, squatting down beside me.

"I ran after you." I whispered.

He sighed. "Let's get you home."

"Wait. Why'd you run out?" I asked.

Ashton ran his fingers through his hair.
"I.. I knew once Harry came back. Never mind."

"Ashton. He has Cassia." I told him.

"But he was yours." He said. The cool sea breeze ruffled his hair.

"Once upon a time." I tried getting up, but I winced.

Ashton scooped me up into his arms. I clasped my arms around his neck.

"I'm sorry." He apologized.

"No. You shouldn't be. It was worth falling. Every second." I whispered.

"Falling?" He asked.

We or he more or less began walking back.

"Yeah." I gulped.

"Do you speak in riddles, or what?" He laughed.

I laughed.
"In a sense."

We neared the house.

"What do you mean by falling?" He asked.
